Computer is going monkey-shit HELP!
Hey guys!
I tried to open a .zip file yesterday and my computer went haywire. I was playing World of Warcraft at the time, but unzipping something while playing WoW isn't a big deal for my computer (I've burnt DVDs, watched videos, and played WoW at the same time before, without a sweat). As soon as I tried to open the .zip, my computer started slowing down, WoW went down to 2 or 3 FPS, my system resources shot up to 100%, and I couldn't do ANYTHING. I had to close down everything. Now, whenever I try to do anything such as surf the net or nagivate through folders, my computer is slow as molasses. I can't even access webpages now - it gives an error message. Athlon 64 3700+ 2 GB Corsair XMS PC3200 Nvidia 6800GT 256 MB AGP/PCI-E Socket 939 Motherboard 160 GB Maxtor 160 GB Maxtor 300 GB Maxtor 200 GB Western Digital 120 GB Seagate 80 GB IBM I've never had any problems before. I really don't want to format, due to my large amount of programs I would have to reinstall (including BF2 and WoW, with patches). I've tried: System Restore Ending ALL processes in Task Manager Restarting (obviously) Virus Scan Adaware/Spybot Disk Defragmentation Still fucked up. Here's some lovely screen shots of me simply *opening Internet Explorer* When it trys to load a page, it gives this:
This is the system resources when I *simply open IE* Help!!!!!! ![]() *EDIT* I forgot to mention: I logged on as "Guest" on my PC and everything is fine. IE works, nothing is lagging, works beautifully. So it has to be something with my specific profile/user account.

It wasn't a virus. I did a full system scan that found nothing but old, quarantined viruses. I have updated definitions also. I thought the same thing at first, but I tried the .zip on other PCs and Macs in the lab here, and it worked fine. It was a .zip file of a folder with some web pages and stuff in it for class that my group member sent (who also happens to be my best friend, so no malicious intent).

have you done any software updates or hardware updates recently. Any other changes to your computer?
also edited to say no matter how powerful a multi-tasking PC you run, burning DVD's or CD's while playing games or any other processes will result in more errors. it's fact. I don't mean to come of in any sort of harsh way just passing along what i know

user accounts can go currupt.... mine went totally bad and wouldnt load anymore, and i had all my files set to private for that user only, soo i ended up just deleting that account and it moved all the private files and stuff over to the 2nd account... if it works fine on your second account, i think you should just use that one, you should beable to access everything on it just fine... just export ur settings and favorites and whatnot, and settle in

I never saw the edit. Hmm, I believe AquaFox to be right. I'd just created a new profile. XP does allow for copying of profiles, but that wouldn't work in this instance, although I'm certain most of the profile could be copied individually.

Thanks so much guys. I backed up everything, made a new Administrator profile, deleted the old one (which took FOREVER!!), and everything is fine now. I guess my profile just went corrupt or something. Thanks again!

I find it odd that a profile corruption is responsible for the performance degradation of a system...

your startup and such is tied to your profile, along with most of your settings.... when my profile went bad i couldn't even get to my desktop or access anything, not even in safe mode.... i had to use the default "admin" profile that appears in safemode to create a new profile and delete the bad one.

Dude, I have to ask... why do you need 1 TB of storage?
I've heard of guys setting up disk arrays with a full terrabyte, but I think yours is the first one I've actually seen.
