Does anyone here follow boxing?
Heya everyone.
Lately, I have started to become more interested in boxing than usual, and I guess I can credit a large part of the reason to EA's Fight Night 2004. I used to watch boxing as a child when it was still aired on "non-premium" TV, but since haven't been able to catch many fights. That being said, I would like to follow the sport more and keep up on things, and was hoping you may be able to help me out via answers to a few questions I had. I'm a big fan of lists, so I will pose my questions through one.
Answers to all or any of the above questions would be great. I'd like to get back "into" the sport, and would really appreciate some guidance. Also, if you are a boxing fan and own a console, Fight Night 2004 is a very good game. It isn't a button-masher and it represents the sport of boxing very well. Thanks and take care.

I just came across a bit of info regarding boxing, so I am going to share it, even though it means replying to my own post.
I came across a newsbit about NBC showing a few boxing matches, and that they want to try and push boxing on its stations. Anyway, here is the article: Quote:
I'd still appreciate answers and suggestions regarding my initial questions above, but also wanted to share this to those that may not have been aware NBC will be broadcasting a few fights in the upcoming days. Take care.

1)
Fight News Eastside Boxing BoxRec (database of fighters and records) 2) The Ring seems to the most popular boxing magazine in America but I don't subscribe to anything myself. 3) ESPN's Friday Night Fights seems to be hanging on by a thread, especially without Max Kellerman. Fox Sports Net has Sunday Night Fights occasionally and I just recently saw a replay of Rahman v. Ruiz (probably to encourage PPV buys for the upcoming fight). 4) I don't think it will ever regain the popularity it saw in the 60s and 70s. Horrible decisions, promoters, and greedy fighters aren't helping either. I think Mixed Martial Arts may surpass boxing as the preferred fighting sport someday. It's more dynamic and showcases fighting in a complete sense. |

Boxing monthly is a good publication mate but yes printed here in blighty.
Boxing imo is still one of the sports for drama and excitement. Although in recent years not so much so. Tue the 70s were a golden age for boxing but: A few years back when the super middle was the division u could not beat it thats any sport. When Eubank Benn etc called it a day it seems to have lost popularity slightly over here. Lewis was good but didnt get the crowd going. Holyfield is one of my all time favourite fighters, its a shame he is deluding himself that he can still win a version of the title. Saying that when you look at most of the opposition anything is possible.

If you are in the UK, Boxing News is the best read, its a weekly and you can usually get it from WH Smiths or have it delivered from yoru newsagent (or subscribe to it)
