Hey Yankee Haters...

How would you feel if Greg Maddux signed with New York? (As reported by WABC and ESPN)

I don't think he's playing second base, but I'll guess he'll make a nice 3rd or 4th starter.

For the record, G.M. Brian Cashman has denied any interest in the former Cy Young winner

Alright. It'll be nice seeing Brown on the DL, Vasquez imploding from the pressure, AND Maddox 1-6 with a 6 ERA adjusting to the AL. Not to mention Contraras (insert own scenario here...it doesn't matter what, it could happen).

Maddux is not signing with the Yankees, Cashman said this mornign on ESPN radio that the Yankees have had no communication with him what-so-ever, and that a deal hasen't been talked about, and the Yankees have absolutley no intrest in the right-hander for the amount of money the Giants/Card and Cubs are throwing at him.

I can't wait till next season when the Yankers toss out about 75m in luxury tax, it'll be great.

Nice offseason, the pitching is still weak and old, but with a lineup like that, who needs pitching, a 3 year old could throw the ball.

Yes, all of this COULD happen.

Would you rather a team not even try and assemble a lineup with mediocre players and see if they COULD win???

I would much rather support a team who is willing to do whatever it takes to win and not rely on what COULD happen. These moves give them a better chance to win. I don't see what's wrong with that.

Sure, there's a risk. There always is.

We will sign El Duque and be right as rain.

Maddux is out and I am glad.

This is starting to get ridiculous. Why does anyone else even bother? I know that they haven't won in three years, but they average one every 4 years.

I hope the Yankees payroll gets to $300 million soon. The ridiculousness of it all is hurting baseball and something will be done soon if the trend continues.

It has to be the most unfair advantage in the history of professional sports, New york will spend in one month more in salary then the entire Brewers team will spend in a full season.

Both sides are equally wrong. While people complain about the free spenders, the next sentence should then criticize those who have gutted their teams of any talent and haven't improved in 20 years.

Not at all a Yanks hater... Money isn't everything, look at the Florida Marlins handing everyone their asses last season. $48 million opposed to about $164 mil. Josh Beckett gave Steinbrenner the nice FU in game 7, go figure. I'm not sure why he picked up A-Rod (sure is a nice slap in the face to John Henry and the Red Sox, though) when what they really need to beef up is their pitching staff. . I agree with whomover (I forget) said it on ESPN, what's A-Rod going to do? They'll win 9-0 instead of 8-0 on a good day and if the Yanks don't win the series...

I love Yankee haters, they are so malicious in their intent to make fun of a good team..it is funny and some times quite sad.

Sorry to double post, but there is nothing wrong with their pitching staff.

Lieber, Moussina, Brown, Vasquez, Rivera are as good as anyone, and better than some.

And still make a major profit.. you're rite.. it'll be great.. cuz us NYers support our team, even in the 90's when they werent so "hot".

Also.. the only reason other teams dont spend money is cuz the owners really dont want to. They want to make profits and get by w/ minimum salary. George is one of the few owners that loves his team and actually uses his own money. You dont think these other owners can afford big-name players?.. please..

Mussina is the only solid pitcher there.

Lieber is coming off TJ surgury, and those pitchers tend to struggle their first year back.

Brown has always had injury problems, last year being an abberation. With that injury history, plus him being 38, I'd bet money that he's on the DL for a decent part of the year.

Vasquez is a solid young starter coming from a city with little media exposure and was highly sought after. *COUGH* JEFF WEAVER*COUGH*

Rivera is WAY overdue for a bad year, and is getting old himself.

Hehehehe...I've heard a lot of stories about Yankee games in the late '80s where attendence was obscenely low.

The attendence picked up once people saw Steinbrenner listening to people other then the voices in his head and the team began to improve.

Do you actually see any real reasons for him to have a bad year?

He's had some injury problems in the past and he's been less than invincible in the past few years compared to when he first jumped on the scene.

Plus, no power closer has lasted more than a couple of years. The elbow or shoulder leaves them long before the player was ready to go.

Mariano hasn't given concrete reasons to expect a fall, but past history with relievers has shown that it's usually a quick career.

Unless he develops a knuckleball.
