Tim Hudson *MUST* win the cy young award in the AL
OK. Off the bat, I'm an A's fan. They own your high paid favorite team, and have a 50 mill payroll. Its ridiculous, but they beat the Yanks head to head, and could possibly go all the way even with Mulder on the dl indefinitely. But here's my case why Tim Hudson is SO much better than Halladay, and even Loiza, and, due to the DL, Pedro.
Here's Hudson's line for 2003. G GS CG IP H R ER HR BB SO W L Sv P/GS WHIP BAA ERA 28 28 3 202.1 154 65 54 12 50 129 13 4 0 103.2 1.01 .210 2.40 He has 4 or 5 quality starts more than Halladay. (a quality start is defined as going over 6 innings with under 3 runs allowed). His era is a FULL POINT below Roy's. The only reason Halladay is even being considered for this award is because his team averages OVER 6 runs of support per game for him. By contrast, Hudson's team averages well under 4 runs per game for him LAST... in his career, when the Oakland A's get him 4 runs or more, tim hudson's record is AN UNBELIEVABLE 62 - 2. THATS RIGHT. 62-2. Give the dude the cy young. He is the best pitcher in the league this year. For Christ-sake, the guy has over 10 games where he left up and then were blown, 8 or so wins became no decisions... AND HE DID NOT EVEN MAKE THE FREAKING ALL STAR TEAM! Yeah, I'm pissed. And yes, Pedro does rule, but he missed too much this year. Hudson, also, has the 2nd most innings in the AL. That said, who's your pick? Loiza? Pedro? or (ick...) halladay? Cheese |

you wanna talk about underrated?
Hudson did not EVEN make the all star game. And he WAS the A's best pitcher then. For some reason Keith Foulke, who is also maybe the best reliever in the AL this year, only blows opportunities when hudson is pitching. Cheese |

Hudson isn't underrated, making the All-Star game doesn't mean that much, there were lots of good players who didn't make it this year.
Lol, speak of the devil, they have a Cy-Young Preview, the 2 main names? Hudson and Loaiza, and they also said to blame Foulke if Hudson doesn't win. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/column...jim&id=1603903 I just think Loaiza has it down, he was in the Minors and stuff, Hudson is already an established name, he has expectations of doing good every year. |

That will be proven by the end of the year. The guy can throw a complete game in under 100 pitches. Like I said. When his team gives him 4 runs, his record in MLB is 62-2. Cheese |

I agree Hudson is the winner at this point. In the NL, it should be Gagne by a hair over Smoltz, because of his utter domination of opponents this year and 43 out of 43 save chances.

I still don't think you can give a cy young award to a dude that has pitched about 43 innings, when starters go over 200 innings. Thats what the Fireman's award is for, and I really hope that they acknowledge that this year, and don't give it to a reliever. That said, Gagne should win that Rolaids relief award. Also, anyone ever heard of Rod Beck, with the padres? He's perfect on the season, with a 1.61 era. How come I never see him on TV? He's a pimp with an 80 mph fastball. Cheese |

Best in the AL... that'll be Doc Haliday then.
No contest really.

I'd be mindful if Clemens too, he got 300 this year, it's possibly his last year in the MLB (Thank god). With Bud Selig in office, who the hell knows, Griffey could win the AL Cy Young award, somehow with that idiot in office.

Ok. I think that what is RIGHT would be giving Tim Hudson the cy young this year. He is clearly the most dominant pitcher this year. More dominant than Pedro. More dominant than Loiza. When Time Hudson starts, I believe that the A's are 24 and 5 or something at this point.
He deserves to beat loiza because, not only is he the best pitcher this year, but he has been probably the second most dominant pitcher in the AL (behind Pedro) for the last 4 years. In fact, though wins are hugely misleading (see Halladay's record with his blown up era), Tim hudson is the winningist pitcher in the league. In fact, Tim Hudson has the BEST WINNING PERCENTAGE EVER among pitchers with 50+ wins. Like I said, that can be misleading. What is not misleading is that Tim Hudson is a better pitcher than Halladay, slightly better than Loiza this year (though consistently better over time), and he has yet to get a cy young. His record of absolute dominance should reward him with the trophy. Loiza is a great story, coming from the minors as a nobody, but damn, give it to the man that destroys every team he faces EVERY year yet always seems to be overshadowed by Mulder and Zito. Mulder and Zito know who the best pitcher in the AL is. I just hope the rest of the league figures it out. Hudson is about the only pitcher in the majors that can throw a complete game in 90 pitches. He reminds me of greg maddux in his prime, but with a wicked splitter. My 2 cents. And no, Clemens is NOT even going to be considered for the cy young this year. You were joking, right? Cheese |

Obviously, Halladay has to be written off at this point. His era's just way to high. Since it is gonna be between Hudson and Loiza, I guess we'll just have to see how the 2 hang in there for the rest of the season. Mulder has a PHENOMINAL 9 Complete games, but his season ending freak hip fracture has killed his chances. Go A's. Cheese |

EAST COAST BIAS.
Pettite... what a joke... he'd be the 4th man on the A's. He is a good pitcher, but how can they mention his name and cy young award in the same sentence. [edit]err.... maybe 5th. Harden has looked pretty good so far. Cheese |
