He finished BJ.

Anyway. Anyone catch the WEC event last night? I'm just getting ready to watch it, but I've heard it was awesome.

YaWhateva 06-21-2010 01:09 PM

WEC 49 was the best mma event I have seen so far this year. It was awesome.

I hope to see GSP try to finish this and not be content with a decision like it seems he has been for the past few fights.

GSP did decimate Hardy. Hardy didn't win one second of one round. Sort of like the first time Kos challenged GSP for the belt. Kos has improved a bit, of course, but he was a very solid fighter when GSP wiped the floor with him. I love how people berate GSP for not "finishing" an opponent. He's finished TONS of opponents over the years. Everyone was hyping Kos's wrestling before the first GSP fight, but look what happened.

Anything can happen in MMA, and Kos is a great fighter, but don't try to insinuate that GSP has to put every single person away to be a dominant fighter.

I agree that Hardy didn't win anywhere but for someone like Hardy who has been lambasted as having zero ground game to not get grounded and pounded or submitted by GSP, who has a stellar ground game, says a lot. Hell, Hardy didn't even look like he had gone through a 5 round fight after the fight. He looked perfectly fine.

Yes, GSP has finished a lot of opponents in the past but he's been fine with settling for decisions lately, against the likes of Alves, Fitch and Hardy. He should have finished every single one of those fights. Alves and Hardy have absolutely terrible ground games and GSP's is "amazing". Fitch is one of my favorite fighters and it pisses me off that people absolutely love GSP but hate Fitch for their respective fighting styles. They are exactly the damn same. Fitch is like GSP junior with an actual personality. And Koshcheck is the last person to have won a round against GSP. I'm not saying that he's going to win when they fight but still.

m0rpheus 06-26-2010 10:03 PM

Wow. I'm just in shock. Fedor lost. I suppose it had to happen but wow.

Great night of fights! I really hope it airs on Spike the next time StrikeForce has a card so I can record it and watch it again.

Rosenthal did a great job, I kinda hate Brock but there's no way that fight should have been called. Brock was trying his best to defend himself the whole time. Come to think of it, I can't think of a really bad call Rosenthal's made. I'm impressed more and more every time I see him.

Who would have thought Brock would get the Sub of the Night award though?!?

floe206 07-13-2010 07:59 PM

Brock will lose his next fight! FOR SURE!

So Alves came in over-weight AGAIN. This is what? The third time he's come in over-weight.

YaWhateva 08-08-2010 01:48 PM

Wow. Spoiler: I was not expecting Sonnen to do that to Silva. Also, Jon Fitch, yeah!

docbungle 11-04-2010 09:35 PM

Well, it was nice to see Brock go down. And in such dramatic fashion. Cain Velasquez didn't even seem to bust a sweat! I have high hopes for him...he seems to be making a habit of beating up on the big guys.

Now Brock knows he's human.

Show's he can dish it out, but he sure can't take it, just like the child that he is.

The video at this link is just another example of why he should go the way of the dodo. He talks of respect and blah, blah, but he doesn't respect anyone, GSP is much more patient than most in MMA I reckon, most would have knocked Koscheck the fuck out by now.

I can't wait for Machida to make a statement tomorrow!

As for Koscheck, I never really hated him like most people do but damn is he annoying on the show. You can dish it out but can't take it, well I don't even think he can dish it out very well. The things he says are just unfunny and it seems like he's trying way too hard.

The thing about the medic though is ridiculous. The scene where Koscheck tried to choke him was heavily edited. In the unedited version, the medic was talking all kinds of shit about Sevak, one of Koscheck's fighters, before the choking nonsense but that wasn't seen on the show. Oh well, Koscheck has made me a fan of GSP. haha

YaWhateva 11-20-2010 11:43 PM

yeah it was awful. Rampage seemed to acknowledge that he didn't win as well.

BJ Penn vs Jon Fitch was announced. That's going to be awesome.

m0rpheus 11-22-2010 12:07 AM

The problem I had with the Rampage/Machida score was the judges seem to be too scared to give a 10-10 round. Sometimes no one wins a round. The first could have easily been a 10-10 round.
Rampage, IMO, won the second and Machida won the third.
At worst the fight should have been a draw.

I'm really kind of looking forward to BJ/Fitch. I can't wait to see Fitch take BJ down and ride him out to a 30-27 decision just to hear what kind of excuse BJ has this time.

Yeah I would have been okay with a draw but giving Rampage rounds 1 and 2 was ludicrous.

I am excited to see Fitch dominate BJ. Wouldn't it be great if he submits or GnP's Penn? Everyone always says Fitch is 'boring', and it would be awesome to see him finish someone like BJ. Fitch is so much bigger than Penn and they are both extremely talented so I think the size difference will be a big problem for BJ.

m0rpheus 11-22-2010 11:33 AM

BJ has really good sub defense so I kinda doubt Fitch will finish him unless BJ shows up out of shape or Fitch really grinds him down in rounds 1 and 2 and then manages to sub him in round 3.

Really BJ's best bet is to train hard at takedown defense. If, and that's a big if, he can stuff Fitch's takedowns and keep the fight standing he has way better boxing and should be able to outpoint Fitch on his way to a decision.

I agree that BJ has great sub defense, it's more of a pipe dream than anything. But how awesome would that be? I do think with Fitch being so much larger than BJ, he will be able to tire him out. We didn't see anything about BJ's gas tank now at 170 so that might still be a huge issue. I see this going like GSP vs BJ II.

Yeah it was brutal. I watched both events last night and I take back my comment about the Machida/Rampage decision being a robbery. Garcia's win over Nam is the definition of a robbery and I think it's the biggest one I have ever seen. Completely insane how anyone could have scored that fight for Garcia.

m0rpheus 12-05-2010 01:41 PM

That decision was an absolute joke. I can see MAYBE giving Garcia the first round, but there's no way Pham lost either the second or third round.

Man Koscheck's eye looked bad. I was actually kind of surprised it wasn't a doctor's stoppage.
I thought when the doctor let it go after the third, they'd sit down in the fourth and call it because Kos clearly couldn't see out of that eye and the damage was just getting worse.

It's been a few days but how did you guys score Maynard/Edgar?

Personally I had it as a draw as well
R1: 10-8 Maynard
R2: 10-9 Edgar
R3: 10-9 Maynard
R4: 10-9 Edgar
R5: 10-9 Edgar

What a fantastic fight though, it's been a while since there has been a super-competitive championship fight.

On the other side of competitive though just caught the Overeem/Duffee fight from the New Years Eve event for the Dream HW title. Talk about destruction.

Also something I'm super-hyped about is StrikeForce's Heavyweight tournament for 2011. There's the potential for some damn good fights here.
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._3227764_n.jpg

EDIT: That's Big Foot Silva that Fedor's fighting in the first round btw.

YaWhateva 01-06-2011 03:04 PM

I'm so excited for the SF heavyweight tournament! I think they have a much deeper pool at heavyweight than UFC. Cain and JDS and possibly Nelson (and he won't be fighting for som time due to contractual issues with another organization) are all the ufc really has and it pisses me off every time Dana disregards SF's heavyweight division.

Yeah that destruction of Duffee was crazy. I found it hilarious they were pushing him as the next big thing until the hilarious Russow knockout.

The Edgar/Maynard fight was incredible. People were saying it was going to be super boring because of their fighting styles but it was awesome. I personally had it scored the same way as you except I had round 3 a draw giving edgar the win 48-47. I could see how one could make an argument for that round going to either edgar or maynard though. I just think that edgar did enough to win the round on the feet and that takedown by maynard that he did nothing with wasn't enough to secure the round for him. He looked incredibly sluggish in those rounds but I figured that since edgar won most of the round and. Maynard getting the takedown could make it a 10-10 round.

What I can't understand is how a judge gave round 5 to Maynard. And he came as seriously whiny after the fight and in the post fight press conference. Just like he did when he knocked himself out against Emmerson and he still denies that he was out to this day which is ridiculous.

It was an awesome night of fights though! And the Dynamite show was awesome too. I'm looking forward to this year in fights!

fill23ca 01-06-2011 08:07 PM

I am looking forward to the UFC here in Toronto in April. GSP is lined up to fight Shields and Randy Coulter is also scheduled to fight. It's going to be epic!!!! Gonna be at the bar with my buddies to watch it!

m0rpheus 01-11-2011 01:04 PM

I just read that Scott Coker is looking to bring StrikeForce to Ontario for part of the HW tournament.
There is no way I'm lucky enough that it'll be the event with the Werdum/Overeem winner facing Fedor (assuming he beats Big Foot), because the likelyhood of me getting decent seats for StrikeForce is way better than getting decent seats for the UFC.

fill23ca 02-05-2011 02:38 PM

Any one else excited for the Jones Bader fight tonight? Jones is always fun to watch. The whole card looks great. I used to like Silva but the way he's acted over the last while makes me hoping he loses tonight.

half my picks went wrong :( I don't really like John Jones or Anderson Silva, but god damn that finish was amazing.

m0rpheus 02-08-2011 02:38 PM

Sadly I only picked one fight right and it was the one I really didn't want.
I thought Bader was going to be able to take Jones down and grind out a win. I'm curious how Jones will do against Shogun though, that's a HUGE step up in talent level from Bader.
I thought Rich might be too fast for Forrest.
I hoped Vitor would take out Anderson, but I thought it would be a KO victory for Anderson. Guess I was right on that one, and man what a nice kick.

I'm very excited for this tournament. And yeah, I also get nervous with Fedor. I love him and think he's the GOAT but he's so tiny compared to the rest of the HW division (he's always been) that it's scary haha.

Prophecy 03-12-2011 01:33 PM

Looks like we'll be seeing a bunch of new fights in the future. UFC and Strikeforce are now under the same umbrella. However, it sounds like Strikeforce is going to play out it's current contracts with Showtime and their fighters before any type of merger takes place.

Zuffa Purchases Strikeforce -- MMA Fighting

m0rpheus 03-13-2011 12:53 PM

It'll be interesting to see what becomes of SF under Zuffa after the Showtime contracts are up.
Best case scenario, I think, is for Zuffa to set SF up as the Triple A version of the UFC. SF still has some very good things to offer.
1) The Challenger's Series is one of the best things to grow young talent in MMA.
2) Use it to give both exposure and experience to guys that aren't quite ready for the big time yet.
3) Dana doesn't want women's MMA in the UFC, so keep it in SF.

YaWhateva 03-20-2011 11:53 AM

I dislike Jones' personality but damn he's a beast.

I love KZ and was so excited for that twister. I literally jumped out of my seat when he locked it in. I thought Garcia was going to make it to the bell so I was scared he was going to rob KZ of the decision if the third wasn't a finish. He is the owner of the worst robberies I have seen in a long time. Good night of fights, I hope Davis keeps getting better, though I was sad to see Hardy lose again.

I know. How did he get the win over Pham? I am not a big Hardy fan, but I was hoping he'd win because he's good for the UFC.

I have all the same pics, I hope GSP dominates Shields. I really don't like him. I'm really excited for Aldo to fight in the UFC, he's awesome. And I really hope to see my favorite fighter get back on the winning side (even though I still think that rampage decision was a terrible robbery).

GSP is gonna dominate! (keep fingers crossed:)) Great card and I'm excited for the atmosphere with 55,000 fans screaming. Being a proud Canadian I have to be cheering for Hominick, Pierson, Patrick and MacDonald. I hope Jason MacDonald comes back strong with this being his first fight since he broke his leg. UFC Connected on Sportsnet here in Canada had a nice 45 minute bio on him. He runs two gyms, trains, and raises four kids with his wife in Red Deer. Seemed like a down to earth, committed guy.

Round 5 scared the shit out of me in that Hominick fight. I'm really glad Aldo didn't mention anything about being sick, I hate when they make excuses. Hominick deserves all the credit in the world.

And holy shit I loved seeing Machida back in epic form!

Wow I am absolutely shocked that Tito beat Bader. I'm not a Tito fan at all but damn he looked better there than he has in a while.

I was kinda sad to see the Axe Murderer get KOed by Leben though, I think it's time for Wandy to call it a career he just doesn't seem to have the chin he used too, and at this rate he's going to end up like Chuck getting loss after loss because of it.

The only thing that had me thinking Wand might win was Leben getting KO'ed by Stann in his last fight, I thought it might come down to who landed first.

Leben said he was sick for the Stann fight, and after seeing Wand land one right on the button and Leben to keep coming I kinda believe him about the illness.

Yeah I believe Leben, dude usually has an iron chin. I guess it could mean that Stann has killer power in his hands but I really don't believe the hype in him at all.

Man the card for 133 just keeps taking hit after hit.

First Jones pulls out of the Rashad/Jones fight with an injury and Davis steps up.
Then Davis gets hurt and they announce Franklin/Little Nog as the main event.
Then Tito steps up and it's Rashad/Tito.
Now Nog's pulled out due to injury making Vitor/Akiyama the co-main and Tito/Rashad the main event.
Now Matyushenko has pulled out of the Spike TV aired fight against Gustafsson and is being replaced by Hammill.

I mean the cards full of good fights, if not top names, but man this card seems to be cursed.
