TFP Fantasy Football 2007

Yahoo set up the football leagues today, I took the liberty of making the league once again this season, I copied over all the settings from last season feel free to join up, league info follows....I look forward to beating up on all the usuals (donuts, screaming eagles, FLSTF etc etc etc

10 teams is the max now and is a good number, when you start getting into 12+ talent gets spread REALLY REALLY thin.

Good Luck.

Allow me to do some research before I join up; I'm kinda new to this sort of thing. Glad to see that the new season will be here soon, though that means that time is just whooshing along.

There a tutorial to this?

Can anyone join? If so, I'm in!

OK, I signed up my team name as "Mile High."

I have played Yahoo FF before, but there is one change I see in the positions. What's a "W/R?" I know a WR is a wide receiver, but whats a W/R?

I can go see how long it has been going on, has been a nice little run for a while now though.

Looks like 2004 was the first year of the TFP league with The Iron Chefs winning first place, Screaming Eagles in 2nd and myself in 3rd.

2005 doesn't look like there were playoffs so the top 3 regular season records were Donuts 12-5, Daousts Argonauts 11-6, Atlanta Aztecs 10-6-1

2006 Dungeon Family, Indebuts Inferno, and myself in 3rd again.

join the party one and all, just PLEASE PLEASE if you don't think you can contribute to the league for the ENTIRE SEASON then do not join.

Every year we get an owner or two who gives up on their team and makes it a little less fun when everyone doesn't play.

10 teams max, we are up to 8 right now.

you go to the league page and there will be a link that says your draft is starting now, click that link and you'll enter the draft room. There is a chat box and the order is random until the draft starts so I don't know who will have first pick. Once it starts you have I believe 1:30 to make your selection or the computer will pick for you. That's it.

I posted this in the notes section of the league too.
I like typing up little weekly reviews so without further ado....

WEEK 1 (aka: it just don't matter)
Week one is in the books, and I (for one) am extremely happy to have NFL football back! I'm not a College fan, and the NFL preseason just doesn't grab me, so this past weekend was great.

As for the League, Week 1 is relatively meaningless because you are either 1 & 0 or 0 & 1. Neither record will matter much in the longrun, but of course, getting a week 1 win is always a good thing. Screaming Eagles, Lions Lose... Again, Pain Train, Mile High & Swasbucklers are all riding high on that week 1 win, and are all undoubtedly looking forward to an undefeated season. The rest are still seeking a W.

High points are the Eagles with 150, low spot is shared by indebut's inferno and Raveners both at 93, followed VERY nearly by Montana's MVP's at 94. Of the high scoring individual players, the top 10 were all QB's, Eli Manning was tops with 54, but will be out for a month with an injury. I find this interesting because in the TFP league, completions are worth a point, therefore QB's have a much greater potential for scoring than RB's, yet RB's were heavily drafted early, while good QB's went untaken. In fact there were 5 undrafted QB's that finished AHEAD of the highest point total for RB's (Tomlinson with 23) in points in week 1. I know, I know, RB's are the backbone of a good fantasy team, but without a good QB showing considering the point values here, it will be tough to win. In fact LT's owner, Swashbucklers, rode a 46 pt performance by (of all people) Detroit Lion's QB J. Kitna for the win.

Underperformance of the week goes to the overall #2 pick S. Jackson, who garnished a pathetic -1 for the week. OUCH! It always hurts to see a goosegg, its even worse to see a minus, but when it's the #2 pick of the whole league, you gotta just shake yer head and hope for the best next week. Lucky for the Screamers, some other dominating performances (like MIN Defense, WTF?) more than balanced out Jackson's embarrassing total.

Game(s) of the week for week 2 will be the battles of the undefeated teams...
Pain Train vs. Mile High and
Screaming Eagles vs. Swashbucklers

Good luck to all, and let's see some more smack-talk!

Week 2 in Review (aka: It still doesn't matter... does it?)

Week 2 is history and scores were up, on average, even though highest and lowest scores were lower, the middle of the pack was stronger. There are 3 clubs in the league, the 2-0's Eagles, Lions and Mile high) the 0-2's (Raveners, Donuts and MVP's) and the rest at 1-1. Its still real early, so its too soon to make room for a trophy or give up, but starting 2-0 feels good, while 0-2 well... doesn't.

High tide was Mile High, AKA "the Carson Palmer show" with 149. Scraping the bottom of the barrel were Swashbucklers, with a yo-ho-humble showing of 86. Individual standout was as mentioned, Carson Palmer with an insane 6 TD's 30 completions and over 400 pass yards, 2 INT's for a stammering 73 points. Good for fantasy, but the Bengals lost the game. 2nd was B Favre with 50 who remained on the bench for our Commish... along with 27 pts from B. Edwards, D'OH! Underachiever is a tough one, I give it a toss up between L. Tomlinson and D. McAllister. Duece is usually good for something, but mustered a measly 1 point. AND while there were plenty of players who managed less than LT's 6 points, it boils down to the fact that LT was by far 2007's #1 Fantasy pick, regardless of what league or scoring system is in place. How's that #1 pick feel now Swashbucklers?

Also of note, there were 7 WR's who made more points than the highest point grabbing RB in week 2. It all makes me wonder why "they" say that running backs are the foundation of a fantasy team. I'm just sayin'...

Game of the Week for week 3 will be our current #1 Lions (congrats, BTW on your current #1 ranking) vs. Pain Train. The train has a good lineup that underperformed last week, look for some better points from the Train vs. our best point grabber so far. Should be a barn burner. Remember, if you are #1, there's nowhere to go but down. Speaking of down, our 0-2 club will be looking for their first W's, good luck because as bad as 0-2 looks, 0-3 looks a lot worse.

Also of note was how down to the wire some matchups came on Monday Night football. Raveners' C. Cooley came within ONE POINT of tying, which would have made them 3rd & 4th in the standings instead if 1st and 8th. Also, if B. Westbrook would have gotten just ONE more or less point, Mile High and Screaming Eagles wouldn't be in a virtual tie for 2nd. It's a game of inches, as they say.

Remember, trash talk is good for the soul...

Week 3 (aka: I'm starting to see some patterns develop here)

Week 3 is but a memory, yet lets revisit it... shall we? 4 teams have "perfect" records. Two are perfectly awesome at 3-0 (Screaming eagles & Mile high) and two are perfectly awful at 0-3 (Montana's MVP's and Donuts). The rest are muffling around in the middle, with less than 40 points separating the lot of them. It is worth mentioning that the top 2 are not only 3-0, but are also #1 & #2 in total points, so it's not just luck of the draw, these teams are putting big points on the board.

Speaking of points on the board, Screaming Eagles (no surprise) were #1 in points in week 3 with a league high 158. The Screamers were able to topple the commish, despite the MVP's having the high points player of the week, Brett Favre. The golden turd goes to Lions Lose, who also garnished lowest league total for a single week at 80. But making a stab at it were Donuts with only 3 more. Disappointment of the week would be WR Steve Smith. After being one of the best in week 2, he managed only a single point in week 3. Also not doing well was Drew Brees, even though he made 23 points, that's really low for a QB. In fact, in the league I used to be in, (where completions do not count for a point each) his point total would have been -6!

Game of the Week turned into Game of the "Weak" with Pain Train steam-rolling right over the Lions by 44 points, sending the former #1 down to #4. I told you there is only one way to go if you are #1. So I was right about Pain Train bouncing back, but I was wrong about it being a barn burner. This game was over as soon as it begun, more specifically, about at halftime of the early games on Sunday. I think I glanced at the score and it was 91-25 at one point. I figured the Lions would bounce back, but it never happened. I kept looking to make sure the Lions had all 9 positions filled, they did, but when you have 4 players added together and it is 13, that aint gonna get the job done. Game of the week for week 4 will be the Clash of the Titans, the 2 league leaders, the undefeateds, the head honchos, the Big Kahunas, OK I'll stop. Screaming Eagles Vs Mile High. Everyone knows what's on the line here...

I noticed a lot of big numbers out there by individual players that were not QB's, K. Curtis with 40 (on the bench, D'OH) and B. Westbrook, A. Boldin and R. Brown all with over 30. But once again QB's dominate the highest totals thanks to completions being worth a point. Which means if your QB is hurtin, your team is probably hurtin' too.

Speaking of hurtin' Week 3 saw some key injuries rear up. If you have an injured starter, you already know who they are, no need to list them here. This, combined with the start of teams' bye weeks will make week 4 interesting. Chances are we'll see lower average scores. So... how's YOUR bench? We all know the Commish has a strong bench... sorry, couldn't resist. Now get those empty slots filled!

crewsor: This will be quite the matchup tonight on MNF, eh? I need a big performance from Palmer, which I'm pretty sure I'll get. But Moss and Gostkowski could put it out of reach. Cinci's secondary has been less than impressive, so anything could happen.

I'm banking on some sound New England video surveillance enabling total dominance by the Patriot defense over Palmer and his receivers. Also I have my fingers crossed.

This is Mister Coasters Week 5 review. These are so good I hate for folks to miss them.

Week 5 (aka the rich get richer)

More injuries, more bye weeks, more "WTF?" moments are what week 5 boils down to. Screaming Eagles are sitting pretty with that 5-0 record and a massive point lead. Can anyone topple the Titan? (so far the answer is no) Tom Brady was high point player for the week. Dog of the week was LenDale White with -1, but it didn't seem to matter to the Screamers, because there was also a goosegg for Jamal Lewis on the side of the Inferno.

Game of the week was once again a rout. Pain Train brought his namesake and a 56 point rout to last years champs. So much for that surge. The Train had high points of the week at 130. PT will also be Game of the week for week 6 vs the Screamers. It will take another 56 point beat-down to topple the #1 spot, but as you can see, it can be done. It looks like each team's key players will be in, so maybe not.

"Game of the Weak" was Swashbucklers. Swash did indeed have a full lineup out there, but the goon squad came up just a tad short... 61 short to be exact. Lions Lose laid the smack down on swash 114 - 53. Oooooo, that's gotta sting. Great smack-talk on the part of Lions Lose, bonus points for that.

And the Commish finally is out the basement with a win! Although the MVP's didn't exactly burn the hizzy down, 81 was enough to handily beat Raveners with 57. The Rav takes possession of the celler on points.

Donuts bested Mile High, who traded places with The Train for 2nd & 3rd. Despite 2 losses in a row, Mile High remains in a good spot, and Donuts moves up to 7th. 3rd-7th place are only separated by a single win, next week could make a big move either way for all 5 of those teams. Who will slide, who will glide, stay tuned.

On a personal note: I was seconds away from picking up Kenton Keith (backup RB for IND) but didn't pull the trigger. I woulda won my game if I had done it. I'm sure you all have a shoulda, coulda, woulda, but didn't story, feel free to share with the class.

Week 6 awaits... GO!

And week 6, again brought to you by Mister Coaster.

Week 6 (aka: I think I can, I think I can, I think I can)

Week 6 proved to be yet another exciting week with great matchups playing out once again. Not only that, but a new champ had risen to the top, barely.

Let's get the big one out of the way first, congratulations to Pain Train on an amazing victory over Screaming Eagles. Not only did the Train bring the Pain in the form of a win, but did so with enough points to to overtake the Screamers on points for the #1 spot, AND highest points for a team in the TFP league in a week. I'm sure the Screamers were thinking that it couldn't be done, and he had company, because neither did I. I expected this to be a matchup that The Train could win, but I never expected a 57 point blowout. Just go ahead and paint a big red "S" on Tom Brady's chest, because that guy is frikkin' Superman. High points for individual player for week 6 and is also highest single player points for weeks 1-6. Brady's always been a solid QB (both fantasy and real) but this season he's burning the damn field down.

Loser of week is Kurt Warner with bupkiss. I thought that the pickup of 'washed up" Warner by Dungeon Family was a good move because he usually does well when he has a start for AZ. 5 minutes into the actual play, and he's out like trout. In the fantasy matchup, that would mean both teams would have squat from a QB because Swashbucklers didn't have a playing QB in the slot, shame on you. Swash managed to get a W with minimal effort and poor points, but Dungeon came up even lower. Swash has somehow managed to get a 4-2 record (4th place) despite having only 556 total points (9th place). Luck of the draw I guess.

Another less-than-full lineup was Raveners with three, countem, three positions on a bye. Mile High took them apart. After glancing at the Rav's lineup, however, it was obvious that they simply had no other choice, except to drop their starters in order to fill spots. I suppose that would be based on expectations for next week and beyond. But at 1-4 (now 1-5) potential points for the future mean gonzo in the current week. Rav needs a win badly. Mile High stays in 3rd.

Inferno came from behind on Monday night on a good performance from the other Manning to beat Donuts. Brandon Jacobs wasn't hot enough to keep the Dough in front.

And finally the commish continues to climb up to 7th and has put together a little win streak, of TWO! The MVP's put up an impressive 133 with all out domination by all 3 WR's in the lineup, in the beat down of Lions Lose. I knew he could do it too, notice I voted for the underdog there. Lions slide to a .500 record, the only team at 3-3.

FILL THOSE LINEUPS NO MATTER WHAT!

This really fell off the map and I don't like bumping it back up, but I thought that we should have the final standings and league champ listed, for posterity's sake (read: shit talking for next season)

Final Standings:
Lions Lose Again 7-6
Mile High 8-5
Screaming Eagles 8-5
Pain Train 11-2
Indebut's Inferno 6-7
Montana's MVP's 6-7
Swashbucklers 6-7
Dungeon Family 5-8
Donuts 4-9
Raveners 4-9

So from looking at the final standings (including playoffs) and records it just goes to show you that there is a reason we have playoffs, the team with the best regular season record finished in 4th place.

Great season all and hope you enjoy the off season.
