Week 2 in Review (aka: It still doesn't matter... does it?)
Week 2 is history and scores were up, on average, even though highest and lowest scores were lower, the middle of the pack was stronger. There are 3 clubs in the league, the 2-0's Eagles, Lions and Mile high) the 0-2's (Raveners, Donuts and MVP's) and the rest at 1-1. Its still real early, so its too soon to make room for a trophy or give up, but starting 2-0 feels good, while 0-2 well... doesn't.
High tide was Mile High, AKA "the Carson Palmer show" with 149. Scraping the bottom of the barrel were Swashbucklers, with a yo-ho-humble showing of 86. Individual standout was as mentioned, Carson Palmer with an insane 6 TD's 30 completions and over 400 pass yards, 2 INT's for a stammering 73 points. Good for fantasy, but the Bengals lost the game. 2nd was B Favre with 50 who remained on the bench for our Commish... along with 27 pts from B. Edwards, D'OH! Underachiever is a tough one, I give it a toss up between L. Tomlinson and D. McAllister. Duece is usually good for something, but mustered a measly 1 point. AND while there were plenty of players who managed less than LT's 6 points, it boils down to the fact that LT was by far 2007's #1 Fantasy pick, regardless of what league or scoring system is in place. How's that #1 pick feel now Swashbucklers?
Also of note, there were 7 WR's who made more points than the highest point grabbing RB in week 2. It all makes me wonder why "they" say that running backs are the foundation of a fantasy team. I'm just sayin'...
Game of the Week for week 3 will be our current #1 Lions (congrats, BTW on your current #1 ranking) vs. Pain Train. The train has a good lineup that underperformed last week, look for some better points from the Train vs. our best point grabber so far. Should be a barn burner. Remember, if you are #1, there's nowhere to go but down. Speaking of down, our 0-2 club will be looking for their first W's, good luck because as bad as 0-2 looks, 0-3 looks a lot worse.
Also of note was how down to the wire some matchups came on Monday Night football. Raveners' C. Cooley came within ONE POINT of tying, which would have made them 3rd & 4th in the standings instead if 1st and 8th. Also, if B. Westbrook would have gotten just ONE more or less point, Mile High and Screaming Eagles wouldn't be in a virtual tie for 2nd. It's a game of inches, as they say.
Remember, trash talk is good for the soul...
