gay male/rookie

Just wanted to say hello to each of you. I looked through alotof the threads on this site, and just wanted to say that I am a gay male, new to this site, and hope that there will be no tensions and/or issues with my lifestyle.
I am most comfortable with all aspects oflife, and all types of people, so feel free to say hello. And thank you for welcoming me to the site. ONe of the threads i noticed was as to why there weren'tmany gay maleson here. I am sure that there are a few here, but they may not address theissues in a public forum.
I am comfortable with the way i live my life. I am out to closest friends, and family. Being p, really makes it interesting, as I amnot out at work, and have no intention, nor need to ever do such a thing.
again, thank you for welcoming me, and look forward to chaiting soon.

Most people when they first came here didn't automatically divulge their sexual orientation, as though they had to. The first thought that came to my mind as I read this post was that you were defending yourself, against prejudice, against people who might have issues with your sexual preference, etc.

I think you'll find here that we don't judge you on things like if you're gay or not. For the most part, we don't care. Whether you're gay or not will not determine how well you fit in here on the TFP, but rather what will is your capacity for abstract thought and your ability to stimulate interesting discussions.

for any number of reasons, this board isn't all that queer...especially when it comes to men. some polls indicate there are more than i've seen, but lurking is somewhat common here.

certainly, there is a vast level of acceptance, at least in the abstract. and i reccomend you value that. it's a step above many of the communities we walk into.

but like with any human endevour, there are problems and issues. whatever it is now, this board largely started focused on hetero porn. and that does, at times, have some bearing on the tone that's taken here.

all in all...react to *individuals* and their capacity for friendship and understanding. you will find many of them here...enough to justify the occasional annoyances, IMO.

Welcome, and I think you'll find us a pretty tolerant bunch. Daoust said it well - we tend to be accepting of intelligent, thoughtful and civil folks, regardless of their identities; if you're an asshat, we'll call you on it. Have fun!

THANK YOU for the graciousness in comments. I wasn't trying to "defend" my self, or my life-style. was merely making it known, in response to something i read in a few other threads. did not mean to offend, if it did, and didn't mean to imply a defense. I am who I am and have the best friends, who accept me, for me, and not for who i sleep with, which is what its all about.
i have enjoyed the brief time i have been here, and look forward to more time on here..
take care and be safe

Welcome, and I hope you find TFP as great a place to explore parts of yourself, your thoughts, and your opinions as I have.

Enjoy.

It's great to see a new member who already feels so comfortable on the boards. As has been said, I suspect we have many more gay men on the boards than let on, but that's perfectly fine. We don't care about orientation here, we're really all just here to enjoy the community, the laughs, and the good discussion. Everyone's comfort level is different, and not everyone feels ok with divulging everything about themselves- whether right away, or even over time.

More, and different, insight is always great, and always welcomed, because really that's just another facet of what this great community is all about. It's good to get your feet wet and see what's going on, because there's always plenty to see. The best advice is just to experience everything for yourself, and keep an open mind about how you perceive the way people post on certain topics. Everyone has their own thoughts, ideas and experiences to add to the mix, and we come from all over.

Above all, have fun! And if you need anything or have any problems, PM a moderator like myself, tecoyah, or lurkette (just to point out the ones already having posted in here, there are plenty more of us) or an admin. We're all here to take care of the boards.
