Hypothetically speaking....

if in 2 years we are in a true mess and Bush's policies have downhill are you still going to be as fervent about him?

If in 2 years Bush's policies have helped America economically, on a world opinion basis and in the war front comeback are you Kerry supporters going to admit you were wrong?

(I have said I will in a previous thread.)

If in 2 years Kerry has turned around things in Iraq, (less money being spent there more allies, Iraq rebuilding faster and safer) and all is running smoothly no terrorism, strong economy and so on will you Bush supporters admit you were wrong?

If in 2 years Kerry has made things worse (Iraq is a mess, economy is terrible, inflation, unemployment rates high) will you Kerry supporters still be saying "better than Bush"?

(If that were to happen, I would probably be thinking maybe Bush could have done better. But, it truly depends on what Kerry has done and if the GOP has let him do his job or played politics and didn't let him do anything.)

Just a hypothetical to see if you care more about the country or more about being right.

Not trying to be a smartass or start anything, just want to believe we are all Americans and can put politics aside if the other party does a better job than we thought. Part of me says we can put politics aside and work with each other. Part of me, though, believes that the partisan divide has become so great, that no matter who wins 1/2 the country is going to want everything going to Hell just so they can say they were right and the decline in the country will be faster and harsher than it ever has.

If clinton is any measure, the right is just as guilty of "hating america" as the left. I think partisans will always be partisan, regardless of their side. People's attitudes towards those across the aisle often reflect very little on what is actually going on.

I'll agree to those. Results are results, and to argue with them is rather pointless. So yes, if in two years Bush's policies are not working then I will voice my disappointment. If and I believe the policies will work, then I'll be gloating a little bit. If Kerry's policy is not working, I'll probably be saying I Told You So. If it works, then hey, I'll be one of the first to put up an "I Was Wrong" Post for all of us fair-minded conservatives to praise results if there are results.

I will be honest. While I give Bush credit for certain things, I can always find reasons to want him out. While I had numerous issues with Clinton, I still supported him. I don't believe in being a single or limited issue voter. I commend elected officials for their successes, but it takes a great deal to convert me. You know, Reagan did a great deal towards bringing down the Soviet Union. At the time I did not agree with all of his actions. However, his domestic policies were IMO brutal and ineffective (no one has yet to convince me that "Trickle Down Economics" is a viable theory...) So, if in two years it turns out that Bush is right about Iraq, I will commend him on that point, but I still have enormous disagreements in regards to tax policy, social policy, fiscal responisbility, environmental policy...you get my drift. I just don't see politics as simple as that.

By the way, the original question was if in two years we are in a true mess, but frankly I think we already are in a true mess, it will only be worse in two years.

It's not that simple, true but an overall basis is what I was looking for.

I did not want to be accused of biasing the thread or trolling, therefore I tried very hard to make both sound good and both sound bad. I admit I did bias to some degree by putting my answers in the post though.

I agree with this statement. If I were to choose a single issue, however, it would be the Supreme Court and judicial appointments over the war.

The answer being: I don't see how Bush could do positive by our country because I am concerned with his appointments that will remain throughout our lifetimes.

Giving credit isn't the same as supporting

I started a longwinded answer to this, and ended up with this:

There are way to many ifs and buts to answer your question. If Kerry has brought allies into Iraq, I would question how he got them there. Are they truly allies or a perfect example of a "colition of the coerced and bribed"?

If someone makes my life and my country better I'll support them. I do not believe that we could ever find the perfect politician. I'll give credit to anyone who deserves it, but that won't ever make me look past their imperfections.

I'm a huge supporter of President Bush, but there are things about the past four years that drive me crazy. Will I vote for him again? Every day of the week and twice if I could. Is there any way that I would vote for President Kerry in '08? I'll never say never.
