Violent dreams?

The lucid dream thread made me think of my dreams. I do not lucid dream that I know of, but I do have violent dreams almost every night. Dreams about either my family in danger or I am in danger. Usually it is my family in danger and I come to the rescue and kill many, many people.... I know at first it sounds kind of funny, me having Rambo dreams or something, but it is actually really scary. I wake up in tears some nights and have to go check on my kids just to make sure they are not hacked up into a million pieces.

Sometimes my dreams are of me waking up from a dream and my family being dead all around me. The police think I did it and that I went crazy but I know I could not have done anything to hurt my family. This is one where I normally wake up without finishing the dream.

I don’t get much sleep. I probably have a sleeping disorder. I might pull in 6 hours on a good night. Could this be part of the reason I have these dreams? Anyone know why I dream this crap? Am I a psycho waiting to pop!!!? I have been trying to think "happy thoughts" before I sleep and this seems to work every now and then. Any suggestions for me?

Hmmm, I dunno. Maybe you watch too many movies.

Sleep deprivation can certainly lead to many different ailments, maybe you should try to get more sleep?

I have the same problem from time to time. It seems to come in cycles. It's odd because I'm a really nice guy and a pacifist, though when I was younger I was quite violent. It tends to happen more often in times of stress, and then I'll end up having the same violent nightmare over and over for weeks on end, then one day it'll stop. It's odd.

I would think these dreams could be stress induced. If you are only pulling in 6 hours on a good night your prolly not getting enough REM sleep which could easily put undo stress on you. Just like the VC used sleep deprivation tactics on the Army in Nam, its well known if you don't get enough REM you start to go crazy!!!

uh oh.

A normal night I get 4 1/2 hours of good sleep. I guess I need to find a way to get to sleep sooner.

i have 3 types of dreams: me killing/fighting someone, someone trying to kill me and i have to defend myself, and sex. i don't sleep much either (4-6 hr) because i view sleep as a waste of time. i need as much awake time as possible to get my shit done

Psycho

I've never had a nightmare before in my life (maybe some violent dreams though), does that make me weird?

For the last month I've been getting 4-7 hours of sleep a night, usually in the 4-5 range. Usually I get more sleep than that (~6-8) but I've had stuff to do the last month. The affect I've seen is that I don't remember my dreams as well (if at all) when I wake up in the morning.

WEll... i had a talk with a sleep therapist...

who was a Psychology major and she pretty much told me that the deal was that i was not dealing with a big stresser in my waking life by just letting it go by while my subconscious was yearning to actually deal with it and getting no response. She recommended dealing with it or, if it was nothing to be really dealt with, run. A lot. It truly helped.

Also, it happens when there is something in the world that i am really annoyed about and concerned, but really cannot do anything about. that is probably when i have them the most lately.
