You're afraid of obscure when I just answered a question about Debby Boone??
Let's stick with obscure then. In 1983 Brian May was working on a solo project EP, what guitarist did he get to help him, and for bonus points, name the project. |
Brian and Eddie Van Halen
Star Fleet Project |
nice, martian.....yes,
is stumping everyone a good thing? btw: i just got ms. radigue's "trilogie de la mort"... i am 3 or 4 minutes into kailasha. while i can still talk or write (this will not last long), i should say (i think) that nothing (and i mean nothing)....(i think....this sort of thing is hard to know, really)--has affected me like adnos--this over the past 5 years or so. just amazing. but if you are focussed on the drone by itself you are focussed on the wrong thing. o, and stay in the sweet spot. it's always better there. |
Quote:
Damn good EP it was too. Yes, I have it. Don't hate me!! |
looks like flstf is up.........
i have that too GOT...very cool album actually. |
Which Beatles' album was the inspiration for Otis Redding when he wrote "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay"?
|
That's an easy one. It was Sgt. Pepper.
Or if you want to be pedantic, the full name of the album is Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Kate Schellenbach drummed in a New York punk band in the early 80's known as the Young Aborigines. This band later changed names and switched styles, eventually dropping her from the line-up. They have since become international superstars. What do we know them as today? |
This one I know because my ex wife was big into Lucious Jackson......... guess that right there should have told me she was a lesbian.
She played for the Beastie Boys...... |
Beastie Boys it is. She left not long after they recorded Cookie Puss due to 'creative differences'.
Your turn. |
Hmmmmmm...... The Bangles were big but at their height the Lead Singer wnet and made a movie who was the producer of that stinker of a movie?
|
Probably her husband, Jay Roach. The same guy who did the "Austin Powers" movies.
|
I would assume you're talking about The Allnighter. Terrible film. I know it was directed by her mother, but I have no idea who produced it.
I suppose I could look it up on IMDB, but that seems like cheating somehow. |
just wanted to say to Martian..........
MORE COWBELL BABY!!!!!!!! carry on and,my apologize |
Quote:
That was the answer I was looking for her mother. |
Okay, this one's just for flyman, then.
I mean anyone can answer it, but.. yeh. flyman. The line in my signature is from a famous Saturday Night Live skit starring Christopher Walken, Will Ferrel and Blue Oyster Cult. In 2005, what band mixed audio from that skit into one of their hit songs, then released the result as the 'Contradictor remix' as a B-Side on the single of that very song? |
Oh, come on. This one isn't that hard. My sister could get it. Or a neanderthal.
I'll leave it up overnight and if nobody manages it then I'll go for something a bit easier. |
Gah, I tried to drop subtle hints in the above post. The band was Queens of the Stone Age and the song was Little Sister.
Alright, an easier one. What 60's rocker is quoted as saying "Before Elvis, there was nothing"? |
that'd have to be John Lennon man.
|
It would have to be John Lennon.
Your turn. |
who was it (actor)...... that starred in Fatboy slim's Weapon of choice video?
*i got nothin'.......sorry for the cheesy, easy one* |
christopher walkin
|
you're up man.....and welcome.
|
Martian my friend...........toss one out there for us will ya'...........
|
You're the boss.
Lessee.. Alice Cooper sarcastically quipped "he has a woman's name and wears make-up. How original." in reference to what modern day act? |

Name one Anthrax song that Dimebag Darrell from Pantera played guitar on. |
Man, I knew that one wasn't going to last long, but I figured it for longer than three minutes.
Re: Dimebag Darrel, didn't he do the guitar solo in Strap It On? No question yet, because thrash isn't my scene. I need confirmation. |
I'm too impatient, so I went and looked it up. I'm pretty sure I'm right, although it was a bit hard to track down.
'Nother question now. In the early seventies, Eric Clapton fell heavily into heroin addiction. He withdrew from the music business and eventually began selling his possessions to support his drug habit. When he started selling his prized guitars, another famous rocker stepped in, unable to bear seeing Clapton go so far as to sell the things that matteredmost to him. With this other man's help, Eric kicked the habit and moved on to have a productive career. Who helped him out in his time of need? |
goin' with either Jimmy Page or Jeff Beck.
|
I believe it was Pete Townshend
Sorry for not replying my round, I was otherwise disposed to post a new question |
I'm pretty sure it was George Harrison. The two stayed very good friends after that.
|

Quote:
Page maybe but he's a prick and I don't see him helping anyone. Beck was probably just as broke, and Townshend was pretty much as reclusive and as into heroin as Clapton was. Harrison very good answer but considering the era and that was the period Clapton had run off with Harrison's wife (I believe), it would have been a true gesture of love and friendship to do so..... course everything I've ever heard of George that may have been the case. |
jth takes it, it was Townshend.

Name the first hit single with a record scratch used in it.
|
That one's got me stumped. I'd peg it as late 80's/early 90's, but I have no idea what the first single would be.
|
maybe something from grandmaster flash.
blanking on the record title though.... |
no, the answer is much more obscure and less mainstream of a name
|
tough one man............hmmmmmmmmm
|
I'll give ya a hint because it's kinda hard.
The Artist is not considered to be a hip hop artist. In fact is considered one of the most influential keyboard/pianists in of his time. |
Herbie Hancock - "Rockit"??
|
yeah man, good for you!
|
It the early 80's a supergroup formed for a one-album project dubbed HSAS.
Name three of the members. Bonus points for naming all four. Bonus, bonus points for naming the album. |
Quote:
Kenny Aaronson (who played with the great Joan Jett) Journey's Neal Schon But I don't know the 4th. The album was Through the Fire and it had a damned good rendition of Whiter Shade of Pale on it. My best friend's brother was heavily into Hagar and cough, cough, hack, hack, Journey. I just remembered Aaronson, because I'm a big Joan Jett fan. |
4th was Michael Schrieve, who had played drums with Santana.
Damn, I thought I had a thinker, but you pulled that out in less than an hour. Bonus points and all. The floor is yours. |
Let's go with the RUNAWAYS a very underrated group and great all girl band.
Name the original lineup..... the three true founding members. Bonus points if you can name those 3 and the most famous lineup. And my awe if you can name the famous band that was not only inspired by the Runaways but included a founding member as the bassist. |
I don't know if this is the original or not, i had a friend that was really into that band and wouldn't shut up about them. I tried to learn about then in hopes of impressing her somehow years back I could only remember with certainty last names.
something Jet. Sandy West. Kim Fowley. |
Quote:
Joan Jett and Lita Ford are probably the most well known members of the group and the bassist you are looking for is "Mikki" Steel who later joined The Bangles. |
oooooo close answers.
Kim was the manager, who..... shall we say, took sexual favors from some of the 17 yeard old girls and literally abused the Hell out of them verbally. Good movie to watch is Edgeplay:the Runaways Story..... truly great documentary that had all the major players interviewed except for Joan Jett. You are correct on Micki Steele being the bassist who later played for the Bangles, who were inspired by The RUNAWAYS. BTW, as stated earlier she was one of the 3 true originals..... although she was the only original that didn't record or tour with the band. 2 original founding ladies to go. |
Ok this seems to be a stumper:
The original founders were : Joan Jett Sandy West and the Bangles own Micheal (Micki Steele) Kari Chrome was the songwriter The most famous lineup of Runaways was: Joan Jett on Rythm guitar Lita Ford on Lead guitar Cherie Currie as Singer Sandy West on Drums Jackie Fox on Bass Vicki Blue replaced Jackie when she quit and Joan Jett replaced Cherie Currie when she walked. Most of the women are still very, very hot (IMHO moreso now than then)..... the exception is Sandy, she looks rough, but lived a rough life after the band. ok....... let's try Rolling Stones Trivia....... what was the only song (with lyrics) that Brian Jones appears as co-writer. It's one of their biggest selling and my personal favorite Stones song. |
I've never seen Jones' name on any album covers. Are you referring to Paint It Black?
Or maybe one of the Nanker Phelge songs? |
Quote:
No Paint It Black. The song appeared as a Jagger/Richards but both have claimed at various times he wrote part of the lyrics with Richards and all the music. Most Stones sites show will give him the due credit for the song. Maybe this is too hard...... there is a restaurant chain named after this song. That should give it away. |
Ruby Tuesday?
I had no idea Jones wrote that one. On my copy of Forty Licks, that is most definitely credited as Jagger/Richards. Not sure if I'm actually supposed to guess twice, but it doesn't look like anyone else is getting it. |
you can guess as many times as you want, as far as I am concerned.
You're up Martian. |
Canadian prog rockers Rush were nominated for a grammy for their instrumental piece YYZ, off the album Signals.
What (and where) is YYZ? |
YYZ is the airport designation for an airport near Toronto, I'm not sure which one.
Edit: And YYZ was on "Moving Pictures", but I'm not nitpicking :p |
Keeping with Rush, the songs of 2112 were inspired by what writer?
|
Just to ease the legitimacy of the question.... this is just one site that maintains Jones co-wrote.
Quote:
|
God of Thunder, you're right. I knew taht one, too; why I said Signals, I'll never know.
YYZ is actually Pearson International, Toronto's main airport and the only international one in the GTA. It's right off the 401; when driving the highway, you'll sometimes find yourself with landing jetliners overhead. |
Quote:
Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky? |
Just because the titles are so close, I'll say Arthur C. Clarke and 2001 A Space Odyssey
|

Doesn't matter, because you're wrong. Quote:
Hint, it's a female. |
Oh, I meant to answer that one. They were inspired by that relativist everyone loves to hate, Ayn Rand.
As I'm quite sure of this, we'll move on. Janis Joplin lived hard; she famously claimed there were only two people who could outdrink her. Who were they? EDIT - Should mention too, due to the relative obscurity of the fact, one of the two will do; if you can name both though, go for it. |

Quote:
yup.........i admit it.........i looked it up and cross referenced it and am still wrong. damn it anyways :D |
Quote:
Kris Kristofferson (I just like the name....lol) and I'll go with Jim Morrison as the other. |
Kris Kristofferson is enough to move forward.
The other was Jerry Lee Lewis. |
Ok we'll make this one really easy, Joe Walsh, Chrissie Hynde, Joan Jett, and Terri Nunn (of Berlin), all are said to have come from what Ohio city?
|
Quote:
was born in Ohio....Chrissie Hynde (Akron) There must be something more.... I'll have to guess... Cleveland Because that is where the Rock and Roll hall of fame is |
Quote:
Close enough. Actually, all 4 were supposedly from the Akron area at one point in their lives. |
Quote:
So with that name two current stars from Canton Ohio Edit: the city I live in is named Canton When the city leaders were looking for a name they had taken a recess a couple of people went outside one of them read a name plate on the bridge It had been manufactured in Canton Ohio That's how we got our name. |

Or tell them if they got it right, if I'm not on. I just learned this yesterday when I was on the Hall of fame site, thought it was pretty cool. |
Well if noone else will answer:
There's Marilyn Manson, for sure. Macy Gray, and the O-Jays. But not sure if those are the ones you are looking for though. |
Quote:
Manson is a lot younger than I thought. Your turn! |
In Billy Joel's video "Tell her about it", the Ed Sullivan guy introduces Billy and the band by what name?
|
can't fuckin' find it............
|
BJ and the Affordables is the answer.
Name 2 of the 3 bands Crosby, Stills and Nash came from. |
The Byrds and Buffalo Springfield.
In what city did Hank Williams, Sr. spend his last night (bonus points for the name of the hotel)? |
I have a hunch that it's Knoxville, but I can't name the hotel.
Didn't he die on the road? |
Knoxville is right, and it's the Andrew Jackson Hotel. There's some debate as to where he actually died. He was certainly unconcious on his way out of Knoxville and might have been dead.
Next? |
Sorry, I meant to get back to this sooner.
How about this one : All Along the Watchtower is one of Hendrix's biggest hits. It's also not his song. Who wrote it? |
Wasn't it Bob Dylan?
|
It was Bob Dylan.
You're up. |
Hm, ok....
Here's what I think is an easy one. Explain the story behind the title of the song "Badge" by Eric Clapton |
The story goes that George Harrison was sitting across from Eric when he was writing it.
He mis-read the writing, since he was viewing it upside down. Eric was writing the "bridge" portion of the song. Eric thought it was funny and named the song "Badge" I'll lob out a softball question since I am checking in during lunch and will be away from my desk the rest of the day. Sticking with Beatles, why did Paul choose the Hoffner bass? |
Guessing - because it was easy to play lefty?
|
Close enough. He picked it because it looked good flipped over. Not a lot of left-handed basses were out then and so he picked it because of it's symetrical design.
You're up, balderdash111 |
Ah.... well I am better at guessing than I am at posing new ones...
Ok, here's one.... What former member of the Del Fuegos is now a popular kids music maker? |
Hell, I figured there must be one other person who'd know this. It was Dan Zanes.
Alright, let's get a new one out there... When Rivers Cuomo was in high school, he went by a pseudonym to avoid ridicule for his admittedly odd real name. What did his classmates know him as? |
Nobody? There's another hour for someone to come in at the last minute and take it, then we move on to another one...
EDIT - No? Okay. Well, Rivers went by Peter Kitts. Kitts was his stepfather's surname and Peter he chose for himself. How about this one, then... The lyrics of the Pearl Jam song Yellow Ledbetter are completely indistinguishable. Eddie, who slurs as a habit, is totally incomprehensible on this track; thus, nobody really knows what it's about aside from Mr. Vedder, who to date isn't telling. We do, however, know what the name is a reference to. What is the name a reference to? |
it was in honor of a Chicago friend of Eddie's named Tim Ledbetter.
right? |
Right you are.
|
okay............what was the name of the band that Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard (now in Pearl Jam)were in before Mother Lovebone?
bonus points if you can name the other members as well. |
They played in Green River with Bruce Fairweather (also of Mother Love Bone) along with Mark Arm and Steve Turner, currently of Mudhoney. I think there's someone else too, but I can't put a name to it. In any case, they were on the Sub Pop label before they broke up; I don't remember why they split, but I'm pretty sure the animosity between Cobain and Pearl Jam later was something to do with it.
What can I say? I went through a big Seattle grunge phase when in my teens. Let's stick to the theme here for a bit.. Seattle grunge was popularized in the early nineties by four groups, collectively known as the big four. Of the four, Pearl Jam is the only group still together today; Nirvana died with Kurt and the other two broke up in between. Who were the other two groups? |
Quote:
|
Nicely done.
Soundgarden broke up in (I think) 1997. It was that old demon that seems to plague successful acts, creative differences. Several of the members went onto other groups, the most renowned of which was Chris Cornell, who currently fronts Audioslave. Alice in Chains died in 2002, when Layne Staley was found dead of a drug overdose. I don't think any of the former members have done anything noteworthy since, although they did reunite (with a guest vocalist) to play a benefit for tsunami victims in 2005. You're up. |
Ok....
Mark Knopfler, guitar player extraordinaire, has released albums under at least 3 names (possibly more), not including session-type work done for other musicians. List three. Bonus question: name the charity band and song for which Knopfler contributed lead guitar work. |
