Alice Cooper
I think that everyone I talk to thinks that Alice Cooper is some hard-core rocker. I don't think so... I think that there are harder bands out... for example: Korn, Ozzy... but why did Alice Cooper get this reputation... I'm only 18 and I didn't live through when Alice Cooper was more popular... I don't know why hes got this reputation but I'd like to hear what people have to say....
PS: Hes coming to columbus and I'm definately going to see him |

Alice was and is a GREAT ARTIST. His concerts are among the best I've ever seen (and I've seen Floyd, Mccartney, Stewart, the Stones and so on).
I think Alice's "label" was put there by some of the freakish things he did in the 70's. He was the first to turn his concerts into theatrical shows, often with violent undertones (not many others guillotined women and babies on stage). He was hardcore and pushed the envelope. As he has said Alice is not evil, Alice is someone that just can't be trusted. Not really the answer you were looking for I suppose but Alice is original, and so over the top, that in a label happy world where everything is labelled "Hardcore" is the only thing that fit. WHEN IS HE COMING TO COLUMBUS, I'D LOVE TO SEE HIM AGAIN??????? COLUMBUS OHIO RIGHT?

Alice was the original "Shock Rocker", long before Marilyn Manson and the others. His music isn't really heavy, but as pan6467 pointed out, his stage show is.
"Alice" is the stage persona, the freak, the guy you wouldn't tkae home to mom. Be prepared to be entertained. The show is great from what I've heard. (I'm jealous pan6467) Quote:
The "band" broke up, but Vincent went solo and adopted the name "Alice Cooper" and continued the wild stage show.

I'm only 20 years old, so I feel the same way as Streak_56 on this one. When he is interviewed now, he seems like a tame, intelligent musician who knows his shit. But not a hardcore rock and roll crazy man
I guess it's from the stage shows like previously mentioned

He used to be the wild and crazy guy off stage but the alcoholism caught up with him and after too many mornings of throwing up blood he finally got the message and sobered up...
His music is about as hard core as say Led Zepplin or Black Sabbath. In the early 70s hard core like Metallica, Korn, etc. and the truly nasty aspects of Punk hadn't even happened yet. As others have noted, it was all about the stage show.

Alice Cooper has influenced countless other musicians and bands, and including his amazing elaborate stage shows, his lyrics and music were groundbreaking and pure genius.
He is still my favourite artist of all time and I have a tattoo of the cover of Welcome to My Nightmare on my arm |

As far as musical heaviness goes, you have to remember that heavy metal, as a genre, was in its infancy. The heavy guitar sounds pioneered by some bands in the '60's was just now becoming seperate from mainstream rock-n-roll, thanks to artists like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and Alice Cooper. And yeah, Alice Cooper isn't the wild man he was back in '72. We all mellow with age, and Alice knew his addictions were killing him. If he'd remained the party-man he was then, he'd probably be a doddering burnout like Ozzy. Recommended: Alice Cooper's Greatest Hits to start. Individual albums - Love It To Death, Killer, School's Out, Billion Dollar Babies, Welcome to My Nightmare, The Last Temptation, Brutal Planet Avoid - Flush The Fashion (a bizarre attempt at New Wave), Trash (unless you happen to like hair-metal), Dragontown (Alice's evangelical Christian side gets the better of him).

All Alice Cooper is awesome, IMO, but I would also reccomend that you check out Brutal Planet, Last Temptation, and the Eyes of Alice Cooper, I would say that they, especially Brutal Planet, are the hardest of his material.

Alright, it's not the best picture and I was getting another tattoo covered.
Hmmm, I've had it for over 10 years and looks like it's time to get it touched up. I had the tattoist add Alice's makeup to the tattoo to make it more original since Alice doesn't have the makeup on the album cover. http://deptofkaos.tripod.com/tat_002.jpg |

While I am not a big fan of his music, I am a HUGE fan of Alice Cooper. I live in Phoenix, where he lives, and have met him in business situations and at charity functions. He is really a very nice guy and a class act. I also love the corned beef sandwiches at his restaurant Alice Cooperstown in downtown Phoenix. If you come to Phoenix, you should at least stop into Cooperstown for lunch or a drink or two.

If you've ever seen any interview with him you'd see that Vincent is a seperate person from "Alice". The stage show is just that, a show. Alice is the original...all others suck!!
