Remixes should be illegal.
Has anyone ever heard a good remix?
Cause i haven't. They seem to butcher songs terribly and only seemingly put loops and repeats in. I am not too sure about remixes of other already electronic songs, but if someone remixes a pure rock or just guitar based song it fucks it up really bad, and these people should be put in jail (i am exaggerating for effect, not being serious). For an analogy, it's like me letting loose on the mona lisa with a pencil or marker and just scribbling shit everywhere. I support covers of songs with some small variations or new sounds added, noramlly done by another band, but not so much all the additional loops and electronic shit. I don't really mind much techno or electronic music (i like aphex twin and others) so that's not really the issue. Maybe i've just had a few bad exeperiences with remixes ![]() |

There are some good rap remixes, so yes, I have heard some good ones.

Just as they were about to enjoy their creamy beverage, three flies landed in each of their pints. The Englishman pushed his beer away in disgust. The Scotsman fished the fly out of his beer and continued drinking it, as if nothing had happened. The Irishman, too, picked the fly out of his drink but then held it out over the beer and yelled "SPIT IT OUT, SPIT IT OUT, YOU BASTARD!" |

I totally disagree with you. There may be heffloads of terrible remixes out there, but I think that has more to do with the shitmess of the music industry rather than the popularisation of remixing.

I don't mind remixes, but I don't usually like them either. It's the artist's choice to do what ever they want with there song. Sometimes remixing isn't always about totally rearranging the song, but they'll change levels and such to make a song sound better than the original recording.

The remixes I hate are the ones where all they have done is added a drum machine to the original and got some god awful singer to sing it again. I'm actually trying to think of a good remix and I can't think of one at the moment, but I can think of quite a few songs which have been destroyed by some idiot who thinks he can do a better job.

I have heard some good remixes and some shitty ones.
There is always somebody outhere who likes them and some who don't. Most remixes i hear are Jungle tracks...I have been dissapointed a few times, But I usually like what i hear.

Get into some Industrial. Remixes in that genre are amazingly skillful.

All depends on the remix.
There a shitload of crappy Top40 to house or breaks remixes. A lot of the time with remixes, they're just trying to squeeze as much out of the song as they can. One thing I do hate though, is songs that are 'remixes' but sound nothing like the original. Not even the same hook or lyrics. Might as well be its own damn song....

There are some good remixes out there, just not many. lately, I heard a really good rock remix of "Paint it Black" (remixer unknown to me). that, and there's a bunch of good video game techno remixes on http://www.ocremix.org/index.php if you take the time to check through them.

I think "Sunchyme" by Dario G was a brilliant sampled remix of "Life in a Northern Town " by Dream Academy. It only grabs a couple of bits, and creates an entirely new song out of it.

Snapcase released a new cd the other day with several remixes from their End Transmission album on it. They were all absolutely INCREDIBLE.
Remixes can be great if done correctly. Certain bands fuck them up and give them a bad reputation though *COUGH*BUSH*SPUTTER*LINKINPARK*COUGH*

Does anyone know the DJ who simply mixes two songs together? I heard the CD the other day but didn't catch who it was. Examples:
"Get Ur Freak On" sung over "Faith" "The Real Slim Shady" sung over "Keep On Dancing" It was awesome...who is this DJ?

Puff Daddy's remix of one of my favorite zepplin songs (Kashmir) made me sick to my stomach. I remember sitting at home at my parents computer with SNL on(I was in HS at the time...) and hearing that come on...ugh.

I though that may hvae been a cover or something anyway, the puff daddy thing of Kashmir. Although, yeah, i thought it was pretty shit. I also heard some busta ryhmes and janet jackson today (old 1999) when i was watching a documentary/program on the creation of film clips. I can't remeber the song, but it "seemed" to borrow some of the cool samples or wahtever they're called from Aphex Twin's windowlicker song. Now, that's a creepy film clip ![]() |

Go industrial remixes. You get to hear the layering of the original tracks better, get a new take on an already electronic track.
Its interesting to look at tracks as evolutionary pieces, with multiple components that can be arranged differently, as apposed to a static song. |

Industrial remixes/covers are generally quite superior to pop/techno/rock mixes. It's just a fact. Mindless Self Indulgence (while I'm not sure what 'genre' they encompass) did a mix of Here To Stay that I enjoyed immensely, while I normally can't tolerate KoRn at all. It was good, now I appreciate both MSI and KoRn more than I did before.
EBM also has some good remixes... check out Front 242 mixing Like A Prayer, or any number of similar mixes by VNV Nation, Funker Vogt, etc. |
