Anyone have a high-end set of headphones that they like?
I am considering buying a decent set of headphones. I currently have some cheap old Sony CD50s, which aren't bad, but are showing some age. I would probably use a new set between my component system, PC, and maybe MP3 player. Sony MDR-7506's and Sennheiser HD-280Pro's get lots of praise, and are in the price range that I would consider ($100 or so). |

I have been using the sony MDRW08L for years and they are my favorite. They are light and comfortable with great sound and only ten bucks! The only down side is one ear always ends up going out after a lot of use. The new sony Fontpia models look interesting also. They say you can't hear a thing outside of the music. That could be a problem if you are active...

The best advice I can give is not to take any of ours. Take your favorite CD's with you to a major store like Tweeter or Fry's and ask the nice man to let you demo all the headphones with YOUR music.
Headphone reviews often focus on sound quality. It's easy to forget about comfort sometimes. Never forget the comfort factor. Some headphones have closed designs while others are open. Closed headphones have more bass and block out the outside world. Open headphones tend to have more accurate sound reproduction but allow outside sounds in. Anyway, I have a pair of Sennheiser 590's that I bought off ebay. They're one of the best purchases I've ever made. Next to my wedding ring, they're probably my favorite possession. I love them that much. Velvet earpads, how can you go wrong?

I've had IXOS/Ministry of Sound DJ103s (link: http://www.ixos.co.uk/interconnects/...uct.asp?id=372) for a few years now. I gotta say, I'm loving them and feel no need to replace them. Very good sound quality, very good build quality, and a very good price, usually around the $70-90 range (today, at least.. they used to be $200 back in the day

Sennheiser's are nice, i have hd500's although they're not as good as i expected. Read reviews from hi-fi or headphone sites before you buy. http://www.head-fi.org/ is a good site. Also www.headphone.com
