Getting new car advice?
Ok I'm pretty set on getting a 04/05 Accord Sedan LX v-6. Its for my family. blabla and my mom wants it under 20k. I did a little bit of research on Edmunds requested some quotes.
Invoice for a 04 according to Edmunds is 20,968 their TMV is 20,039. So how should I go around bargaining for it? Invoice for 05 is 21,932 Emunds TMV 22,991. Some quotes I got 20,532 for an 05. And 20,998 for an 04. Has anyone bought an Accord sedan recently? LX or EX? How much did you pay? gahh wish I was getting a TL or g35.. atleast there are websites devoted to them where I can see how much people have payed, and I have a price range to shoot for. Anyhow how do you guys think I should proceed to get the best deal? |

Call up the dealership and ask to speak to the fleet manager. Tell him what you want to buy, and ask him what the price is. Nine times out of ten, he'll tell you something that's a few hundred over invoice, which is fair. If he tries to jack the price, mention the invoice price and he'll either get reasonable real fast or he's an idiot.
Fleet managers sell shitloads of cars to companies. They aren't on commission, they don't have time to dick around with prices, so they don't tend to try the price inflation game too often. |

keep an eye on how many the dealer has for a while, if it dont change alot u can use it as leverage and bargain sayin there not selling fast. Aslo, talk to a salesperson and talk about a car with ALL the options, no matter how uselss. Then baragain from there and have him write the price on his car. Then come back, talk to a different sales person and talk about a car without the useless options, hell have to take the cost of the options OFF the already bargained down price...works well.

hmm haha yea I was thinking about walking in and just checking out the different models.. but I'm pretty set on getting the LX since it makes my mom happy haha I could care less just going to drive it for a few months before I get my car anyhow.
The problem is they're already offering below invoice well atleast one dealership is. The internet guy quoted a 05 LX v-6 at 20,532 invoice apparently is like 22. haha yea I wanna get it under 20k out the door. Maybe I'll try the I can only afford it for under etc. Any other bargaining ploys? Last edited by 510cut; 12-28-2004 at 07:54 PM.. |

take the 20,532 to other dealerships an see what they do. if he's offering it below invoice 1) there are probably some factory incentives / bonuses 2) other dealerships can match it if they want to. visit a few maybe 4 or 5 (there are usually a lot of honda dealerships). these are the tactics i used:
1) try to get a sales manager, not the guys that hover around the lot. The guys roaming the lot are usually go betweens without the power to make deals. 2) be ready to buy that day. it helps a lot when you can say, "if you give me this price, i'll buy the car right now..." 3) play the dealers against each other. i took a number to one, but told him I had an appt at another. now way you can say "you have 30 mins and i'm out of here." when/if he beats your're number (usually to keep you from going to another dealership) leave and if his price is the absolute best, you know where to go. 4) i don't think accords are in short supply. a dealer will pressure you buy telling you that a) he can't promise the same deal tomorrow b) the car will probably be gone a) almost always not the case b) most dealers carry a limited stock and either drive them from another dealership or a main lot/port 5) if financing finalize the price before working payments. its never good to say, "i want low payments more than anything." you don't want low payment if the term is rediculous... 6) collect cards, and drop names when you can. makes them think you're serious |
