Ticket Question
Okay,
Today I got a stupid parking ticket (leaving car in fire lane). $25 fine, no problem. However, my family seems to think that since they have my liscence and registration number, it's going to a) Raise my insurance b) ruin my credit rating Does anyone know if this is legit? I thought that insurance companies were only contacted if it was a moving violation (ie: speeding). Would they really dick over my insurance over just a minor parking ticket? Any stories/information would be appreciated. |

25 for leaving car in fire lane? Wow...i would take that and be happy. I would expect a much higher fine. Anyway, i though only moving violations affected your insurance, but i could be wrong. Give them a call and ask them. Does the ticket indicate who your insurance company is? If not...they may not even report it to them.
I have a feeling that fine is just like any other parking ticket (such as parking w/o a permit at a school or something). I know other parking ticket incidents dont lead to insurance increases.

Why do they have your License Number? (Or do you mean license plate number?)
Unless the ticket is TO YOU, instead of the vehicle...then I can't think of a way to hold YOU responsible for it, other then the registration will eventually be suspended if you don't pay it. Around my parts only violations which results in drivers license points can effect your insurance. -bear

No, it should have no effect on your insurance rates or credit rating. Like most parking tickets, there is no sure fire way to *know* that you were driving the car when it was parked. Therefore, you cannot be held accountable for the matter. However, being that you are the car's owner, you must pay the fine to cover the issue over the car being parked -- the ticket is on the car's record, not your's.

I agree with all of the above. If you still aren't sure you usually get a list of the points for various offenses from insurance companies with your policy or you could request another one; that should tell you anything that would cause you to earn points which to my knowledge are the only things that raise rates. I have never heard of parking tix being one of them. Good luck.

It's a parking VIOLATION! It has no bearing on your insurance premiums. Only moving violations dictate your insurance rates.
Now it will affect your credit if you don't pay it and it goes to collection.

Allright-
Paid it, no big deal. The only thing that concerned me is that the dickhead cop wrote down my license number (read: actual license, ie: the card that you carry, not just the plate). This is why I'm afraid that it might get back to me.

non-moving violations (ie parking tickets, tinted windows, >db limit) will do nothing to your insurance or credit raiting. Your family was pulling your leg.
Moving violations (i.e. speeding, dui, reckless) on the otherhand will mess things up. Usually insurance companies allow for 1 speeding ticked per year or per 3 years w/out raising rates, but not so for dui & reckless. |

a) no
b) only if you dont pay it. And dont be angry at the cop for doing his job of keeping the firelane safe from people who wish to park there and take a chance of risking other peoples lives incase a fire were to break out. I wish they would charge people a good 200$ for parking in firelanes, it pisses me off to see the ignorance of people at public places.

If you pay it off you should be fine. Your family is just being paranoid.

The store where I worked years ago had a huge parking lot, yet every now and then, some putz was too friggin' lazy to put his car in the approved location. Two local officers worked for us part time, and we'd manage to keep the customer occupied long enough for a marked car to arrive and ticket the SOB.

::cough:: car was running. If there was an actual fire, I would be able to move it. Moreover, it was only for a short period of time. There should be a limit on fire lanes, such as 15 minutes.
As for traffic cops, fuck them all. Traffic laws, on the whole, are useless shit. There should be no traffic law - everyone does what is naturally the safest method. Any law that we break is essentially useless - if we're able to break it, and not kill anyone, then there is no need for said law.

If you knowingly parked in the fire lane, pay the ticket and learn a lesson. They have fire lanes for a reason--and parking isn't one of them.
