I'm rollin' in a hot 1991 Cavalier RS. It may not be the best, hell, I KNOW it's not the best, but this one seriously takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. It's EXTREMELY cheap to get repaired, and has excellent gas mileage. I'll probably continue to drive it out of college. And the speedometer doesn't work.

This is my damage I did about 3 weeks ago....but if my van was a new van it would have had the airbags come out and would have been done.

Just need to get those injectors and a better intercooler and I can do some final tuning and take it to the track. Being out of work for three months has put a cramp into my plans, however. Haha.

Might do the brakes (just upgraded rotors and pads, not big brakes) and replace the windshield this year, too. Always have more plans than time and money to complete them.

Boy, do I ever love the looks of that Porsche 928 posted earlier. Maybe I'll make one of those my mid-life crisis car.

440sixpack 01-29-2004 06:54 PM

Looks like I'm actually one of the older people in this thread... :)

Anyway, guess it's about time to do this again.

As noted in sig, daily driver is a 2003 Dodge Ram QuadCab 4x4 Hemi, only mods so far are Westin Platinum CPS nerf bars, a Line-X bedliner and stero upgrade (Kenwood eXcelon X-69 and 4 new speakers).

http://www.fox302.com/userdata/440si...r/DSC00783.JPG

And the (future) play car (which unfortunately I do not have a picture of online anywhere gives me my nick - 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 440 Sixpack. Needs a complete resto but it's an auto, 3 x 2bbl carbs for those who don't know what the sixpack was, in Plum Crazy Purple and one of 793 made with that engine/tranny combo, so it's pretty rare - not 426 hemi rare but practically the next best thing! :D

Okay actually that's it on the right of this pic:

Edit: crap well I guess I can't remote link these pics - guess you gotta click the links if you really want to see 'em.

to the guy that originally posted this: don't get a chip. chips are only made so that they can correct air/fuel for engines with mods. since you don't have any engine mods it would be useless to you.

So far, had one overheating issue and my odometer backlight has gone out on it. Past that 26mpg (i drive too fast) and a nice ride. 3rd Saturn ive owned, and my next one probably will be another.

Dassin 02-16-2004 02:19 AM

Let's see...
'90 Ford Taurus SHO (paid $2000, woo)
220 horsepower / 200 ft-lbs stock
Loaded of course.. power windows, locks, seats (10 way or something crazy like that), moonroof, etc. Full leather, black interior, all that jazz.
Came with aftermarket rims, mufflers, and tint

So far I've replaced the radiator, battery, hoses, removed the outer airbox & silencer cone, hardwired a radar detector (my best friend, I swear), and installed my stereo.

The stereo is:
Pioneer flip down cd deck
Pioneer 5 1/4"s up front
Pioneer 5x7"s in back
Kenwood 12" subs in the trunk in a 2 chamber sealed box
Xtant sub amp
-edit- Oh yeah, 1 farad capacitor for that sub amp
Kenwood 4 channel amp (for the front stage)
RadioShack 3 way crossover (can't say enough good things, though I believe they are discontinued)

I plan on doing (in the nearish future):
Some engine work (routine maintenence that's probably never been done)
Get the right friggin front bumper (it had been in an accident.. got a non SHO bumper right now, looks kinda lame)
I would LIKE to get it painted black
Replace the nasty old purple looking tint with some nice new dark black stuff
While I have the nasty purple stuff off, fix the defroster elements (3 work :P)
Cold air intake
Brake work
New tires (friggin cheap previous owner..)
Yeah, actually this list could go on for a while.

Here's a couple pics for the heck of it.

Thanks for the compliment. I REALLY like the truck so far. Have had only a couple minor issues thus far. It's been really good for the Calgary weather for sure. Gotta love having the 4X4 for the snowy days and getting out ice fishing.

Cheers,

wow those are some really nice cars you and your dad have. Beautiful styling, handling, power, both cars have it all. i'm officially jealous. hehe.. j/k..

SLM3 03-09-2004 03:31 PM

I'm not gonna lie, my dad experiencing his midlife crisis led to me being able to drive some amazing cars. So far he's been through a 911 C4, Mercedes S55 AMG, E55 AMG and the SL55 AMG. The Porsche is gone (and boy do I miss her) but the Benz's do their part to help us forget. Regardless, I'm still adamant that my M3 is the most fun to drive of all of them.

Right now we're on the list for the new Mclaren SLR. What they told us was that if you put down the deposit and place an order, you're allowed to test drive any SLR in the world that is currently on the show circuit. So basically, if an SLR comes to town for your local auto show, they'll arrange for you to take her out for a spin. Amazing stuff, eh?

haha.. why can't my dad have a midlife crisis?? lol

and yes that is very amazing!! i really like hte F-1 inspired look of the SLR. the cars a bit on the heavy side, but i'm not complaining. You're a very lucky guy!!

So why'd your dad get rid of the porsche if you dont' mind me asking?

SLM3 03-10-2004 09:31 AM

Honestly, I think my dad just got to the point where a raw sports car just wasn't what he was looking for anymore. He still says the 911 was the most fun car he's ever owned, but at the same time a car more compromising in terms of performance vs. luxury was what he was looking for. In that light, what's better than an SL55? The thing is just brutally fast (it would destroy the Porsche in straight line performance). Then you've got the heated/ventilated seats, the awesome sound system, the hard top convertible...and on and on. I think that's why the family has gone on the AMG tip.

However, while the SLR is indeed a rediculous machine, I'm pushing for him to jump into a Carerra GT. The SLR is brilliant, but really I can't help but think of it as an SL55 on steroids whereas the GT is a race car from concept to execution. Plus you could have a GT by the end of the summer as opposed to waiting until the end of 2006 for an SLR.

Either way, you couldn't pry the keys to my 5 year old M3 from my cold, dead fingers. Well, you might be able to relax 'em if you dangled a set of GT keys infront of me. :D

Ya heard of them, they did Camaro's to...badass cars.

SmileyG3 03-12-2004 07:20 PM

Ya SLP did the SS also but in the thousands (per year), so they're more popular Firehawks numbers never exceeded 600 (per year)

Oh come on... where is your sense of adventure. We could drop in a B18C5, bolt on an intake and exhaust, then slap on a turbo kit and some fuel mods. You'll be keeping up with Mustang Saleens and Corvettes, and will only set you back $9000. :D

eclipse is very nice as well.. just not very often do you see a ducati.. atleast i dont..

turbodriven 03-13-2004 12:24 PM

Since you like the Duc... here are some more.

1997 was the first year Ducati introduced the 748, and only 200 of them were shipped to the US. It was the only year with the silver graphics set low on the sides. On the road today (compensating for wrecks, race bike conversions, etc.) there are only about 140 total in the US that look like mine. Almost as limited as the Neiman Marcus silver edition. Pretty cool.

Yes, but keep in mind they made the LT1 Firehawks every year, from 93 to 97. The LT1 Camaro SS was only made in 96 and 97.

Personally, I didnt feel the need to pay the extra money for the car and insurance so I could have a special build number....

SmileyG3 03-13-2004 01:05 PM

Money, insuranse and or build numbers were not issues when i bought my car.....I bought the car I liked.

WarWagon 03-13-2004 02:20 PM

Accidentally double posted, see below.

WarWagon 03-13-2004 02:21 PM

This was my 79 Firebird as it looked about 3 years ago.

http://www.grimfandango.net/abuse/firebird79.jpg

This pic of the wagon was from shortly after I swapped in its 3rd motor, just after I bought the car 3 years ago. A whoooole lot has changed since then, including a 12pt cage, completely new drivetrain (about to change again), welds all the way around, completely gutted with the exception of a single racing seat and a fiberglass dash. Oh yea, and the primer is now multi-colored.

http://www.grimfandango.net/abuse/battledamage.jpg

Anybody here looking to do some paint and body work free of charge if I pay for materials? I'll gladly put your logo on one of the lexan windows

SmileyG3 03-14-2004 09:32 AM

WarWagon that Firebird is sweet..whats in it?

monstadog 03-14-2004 11:39 AM

SAAB 9-5 , quick, comfortable and 40mpg

WarWagon 03-14-2004 02:46 PM

SmileyG3: Its a 400 Pontiac, .030, small dome, ported 6x heads, 230ish hydraulic cam, nothing really fancy, but a strong runner. With the 3.42 gears it'll light em up from a 35mph roll, and it just rips on the highway. When I get the cash, I'll be upgrading to small chamber Edelbrock heads, now that they're becoming easier to find on the used market.

DDDDave 05-10-2004 04:55 AM

Finally had time to take some pics and get them hosted.....

Simple really, a 2004 Honda Civic LX. No mods as of yet, but I am still 12 grand in debt. This summer is going to see coilovers and performance shocks added, for a drop as close to 2 inches as I can get. 17" rims Id like to add this summer, but the money may not work out. ANd in a few years after its paid off, and Ive burned through the extended wartantee, I believe a K20 may make its way under the hood....

Anyone got an Acura RSX type S thats been T-boned?;) As long as the engine and engine compartment are good. :)

1988 Volkswagen Jetta coupe.. 98 Jetta engine swap. Porche 944 turbo and intercooler. New interior(recaro seats, custom turbo gauges, infinity stereo) New exterior(Big bumpers, headlight conversions). And yeah, I love my car.

Thanks. I've had it about 2 months and am coming to appreciate it for what it is. It's not particularly fast or great handling compared to other roadsters (eg Boxter) but it's a ton of fun, looks great, and women seem to universally love it. Only a MB enthusiast can tell a '98 from an '04 so it looks like I spent $45k+ when in fact I spent well less than half that. The retractable hardtop *rocks* - better than a ragtop in so many ways.

The big unknown is cost of ownership. I know factory service will be more expensive but if nothing big breaks, if the car doesn't strand me somewhere, well that's what makes me trust a car and love it over periods of years. The jury is out on that one. Time will tell.

Wow... it's clear there are a lot of beautifully maintained & cleanly modded cars here -- of all makes & years... very nice work... :)

I own a 97 Acura Integra LS. Second owner, with a tad over 100K.

Mods are as follows-
Chassis: TEIN SS Dampers/ 16" 5Zigen Fighters / Nitto NT555 tires
Audio: Panasonic Headunit / Infinity Component Speakers / BassLink 10" 200W sub.

Drivetrain is essentially stock...with the exception of a 2.5" 4340 stainless steel mandrel-bent exhaust fabricated by a local shop with Magnaflow resonator & universal muffler. It's a tad oversized for the short -term, but the forthcoming Greddy turbo kit will benefit from slightly oversized tubing... [It's just a matter of raising the funds now :o]

It doesn't look like TFP supports image attachments...darn. I'll get around to posting a pic or two in the near future. :D
