Revival of Writing Challenges?
Earlier last year, there was an attempt to create a weekly writing workouts/challenges to give people new ideas and encourage writers who wanted to participate to continue to be creative. It kind of died because there were really only 6 or 7 people who posted regularly. I've noticed in the last month or so, we've had a LOT of new posters who are writing some amazing things. I'd like to give this another shot.
If you're interested, comment on this thread, along with any ideas or suggestions you might have. Some of the things that were used in the past were poems expressing an emotion, weather haikus, and stories that had to include a specific phrase. Some past workouts: http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthread.php?t=62175 http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthread.php?t=62989 http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/showthread.php?t=63746 If you're interested, read through some of the posted threads to get an idea of how it worked. Tecoyah did an amazing job getting this thing going, I think it should get a breath of fresh air!

im keen to give it a try. does it matter if there are some that you dont do because either a) you cant think of what to write or b) you dont know how to write a certain idea?

We tried to give people the whole week, so sometimes it was a little slow for a day or two or three as people were writing ideas. You can participate as you wish, but I thought the best part of it, for me, was trying to grow out of my comfort zone and try new things. You only get better with practice. We do want to vary it up though, so that there was a little bit of different forms of writing.

I've never posted in Literature before and have rarely ever visited, but I love to write so please accept my acceptance to the challenge.
I should visit more often, I suppose.

Well, I'm ALL the way on the West side of the US on Arizona time, but I'll try to get something up late Sunday night - Ie in just a few minutes, then I'll go a week from the time I put up the post. If it takes you a little longer, by all means still feel free to participate, but a week is a pretty good amount of time to think and develop ideas while not getting too bored or overworked.

So this would kind of be like a 'Photoshop friday' thing?
Good idea. Could I suggest that someone post the topic or passage to open the story and then everyone creates a new topic for their submission, with a "Re: *topic* - *Name*'s submission". These type of things tend to run into the tens of pages and it's a pity to see someone's submission get obliviated (I think I just made that up) when they post it on page 5 of a thread where people are still discussing two earlier submissions. It makes it a lot easier for submitters to find feedback and critique and makes the commentsflow that much better. /end 2cents |

I think I lost you a little bit, but the first time we tried this,we didn't have that many people, so this was nowhere near neccessary. If it DOES become the case that we have multiple pages of submissions (which would be AWESOME) I think we'll tackle the organizational problem at that time. The simpler things are, the easier it is for everyone to join in.
