Losing weight.. in my lower half
So I've lost about 30 pounds in the past 4 months. I went from a size 42 pant to a size 36.
Unfortunately, I still have REALLY fat thighs and a fatty ass. Yes, that sounds like something a chick would say, but its true for me, for instance my thighs at their widest point are around 26". If I stand up straight with my feet a regular distance apart, they sit against each other, and when I walk they rub together. My upper body is fine, I do have a spare tire but its getting smaller, and my calfs are great and getting small as well. Is there any way to increase the rate that I'll lose weight in the areas I've mentioned? It doesn't look/feel like I've lost any there at all. I've been doing weights, then about 30-50 minutes of cardio 4 or 5 times a week (eliptical, bike). I'm expecting to hear that I'll just have to wait until my body starts losing that fat on its own, but in my experience its the last thing to go. (I lost weight when I played sports in highschool) Would it be good to start doing some weight exercises and doing the bike on high resistance so I can build muscle in my legs, so that they burn more calories? Previously I kept up my upper body, but I rarely did cardio, I've only recently started doing regular cardio for the first time in 6 years, so I imagine besides supporting my weight my leg muscles are kind of weak. Thanks in advance. BTW: I've lost the weight by also cutting out sodas, chips, sweets, not eating "unnecessary" carbs (bread for hotdogs, sugar for teas/coffee), drinking plenty of water/green tea and trying to eat alot more veggies/protein- in addition exercising. |

Another exciting prospect is that as the extra weight comes off, all the weight work you do will pay off double! Not only will they be increasingly defined from the weight loss, but they'll be getting bigger due to the work you put in.
I understand your frustration as I am going through this myself. The gut is very, very difficult to get rid of for me. I heard some theory about how it's harder for races that originate out of the middle-east (my family is Turkish), because they are pre-disposed to midsection water retention thanks to those long camel trips. I'm sure that "body-type" has a lot to do with it anyways.

And when you lose it all, the spots you lost last will be the first to put it back on if you fall behind!

Good job. Keep at it.
My gripe is that it's hard for my body to put on muscle. I can eat all the junk food I want and the worst thing that will happen is that I lose my abdominal muscles. Although, I have successfully put on 10 pounds. Thanks to weight gainer, working out, general laziness and fast food

Well then we are the exact opposite, I was ALL gut and upper body fat, with skinny chicken legs and a "Hank Hill" ass. I've lost a lot of weight (83 lbs), but still have a gut. Currently I'm 227 at 6'4" tall, everyone says to stop losing weight, but I still have that gut!

One thing people screw up and do is stop eating. Your body then tries to store more fat and does so in the areas you are trying to drop fat. You need to eat. Just try to eat right: 5-9 1/2 cup servings of fruits & veggies a day and get 20-30 grams of fiber, along with some protein. Work out 3-4 times a week and everything will take care of itself.
