Shape of my Spine
My spine is curved, not laterally. It makes me look fat, hunched all the time, and probably a few inches too short. Im 6', 155 lbs, male, so there is absolutely nothing I can do about the pot belly in terms of weight. Ive done various ab exercises and that doesnt seem to flatten it out. It seems to me that if my spine didnt have this curvature then I would look a lot better.
Ive tried sleeping on my back, but always woke up on my stomach. Are there any exercises that can be done that gradually improve your posture? |

Which part is curved, the small of your back, or the upper part, by your shoulders? A normal back should be curved, kinda like an S shape. Yours may or may not curve more than normal, but it should be curved.
I don't know how much you can do for it though. Maybe go see a chiropractor. The only other thing I can say would be to sit up straight, but I'm sure you've already thought of that. |

Kyphosis and Lordosis are both serious problems. I don't know which one you have, but if your spine curves in the sagittal plane, it's probably one of the two. I'd go see either a physio or a doctor if you really think it's significantly curved. While valuable advice is often found on internet forums like this one, spinal curvature is not one of those issues you can address effectively on a keyboard and monitor.

like poloboy said, you're not gonna really be able to get any help online. best thing to do is just go to a doctor (not a chiropractor) to have them check it, and if so find out what they recommend. stuff like that can need surgery, braces, or chiropracty. i just don't think you should go to a chiro for the initial diagnosis because i don't completely trust them to tell you if you really need their help, and if so, if their methods are really the best solution.

Your spine is supposed to be curved inward in the lower region of your back. If you think yours is abnormal, see a doctor.

I've got scoleosis (sp?) which means my spine curves off a little to my left around the small of my back. I used to get crippling pain in my back and wouldn't even be able to get out of bed on the worst days. I slanted to the side when I tried to stand up straight (I was naturally tilted, so to speak). I started seeing a chiropractor and within a handful of visits I could feel a huge improvement. Chiropractic could be the answer, but like HH said, go see a doctor first.

I would have to do the oppisite direction and say go see a chiropractor first. This could be something simple that can be fixed in a handful of visits to the chiropractor. Plus, a chiropractor isn't out to make an asston of money off of spinal surgery, whereas if you go to an orthapedic doctor he's in the cut with the orthapedic surgeons to make money off of every recommended patient that eventually gets surgery. Plus, back surgeries suck, cost lots of money, take a long time to heal, and i mean, IT'S YOUR SPINAL CORD! THERE'S NERVES AND SHIT IN THERE!
Seriously, tho, chiropractors are the way to go (speaking from the voice of expierence) If that doesn't help, you should check out Dr. Ongley . I know it seems fantastical (what he does), but practally every single person in my husband's family (mom, dad, both sets of grandparents, all aunts and uncles, all neighbors, family friends, and buisness contacts) have been to him and have been cured of all sorts of problems (back injuries, headaches, muscle injuries, etc, etc, etc). He's amazing- I hope to get to go to him for a hip problem I have before he dies!

i injured my back badly and had problems with the curvature of my spine. my advice is dont see a chiropractor. they are very questionable in their practice. see a physiotherapist if your cancernd. if you tell them you want excersisesssdfwe they will give you good ones and the ones you need.
