greying hair - im only 22
I been getting a lot of grey hairs recently especially on the sides of my head...its increased as time has passed. I dont think its with ageing, as everyone says im young and even the doctor found it odd, he said their was no cure otherwise he would be a millionaire.
i researched it on the net and apparently it could be caused by stress. I do feel i am under a lot of stress and have been for a while, but if say that to my parents, they will say i dont know what stress is. Another thing i read says I should take Iron. I have brough Iron vitamin tablets last week and i hope they do make a difference. Has anyone else experienced from 'premature' greying of their hair and what did they do to try resolve the issue? Is it true if you pluck out one white hair, more will come? do you reccomend i should die my hair? i hope someone can help thank u |

Ask your parents when they began turning gray. Ask if anybody in the family -- even some great aunt or uncle somewhere -- was prematurely gray. Even if your parents grayed later, this sort of thing can hop generations within families.
I don't rule out other causes, but genetics and heredity is the first thing that you should look at, because everybody's different. I've met people who started going seriously gray in their mid-20s, and others who are in their late 40s and have maybe one strand of gray. Most people are in between the two extremes. As for stress, all I can say is only you know how much stress you're under; so don't let your parents blow you off. Two people can do the same task or live the same type of life and feel 'way different levels of stress. It all depends on who your are. |

I started going gray about 16 or 17 - I mind it more now because the gray color just makes me look older now that I'm not 16 anymore.
I have heard all sorts of things like smoking, anemia, thyroid problems and not getting enough vitamins (B I beleive) allcontribute to the pre-mature graying of hair. I also believe it's partially heriditary....

I shave my head, but I've noticed my goatee going salt-and-pepper. Last year was my 10 year high school reunion, and as I was getting ready for it I started to pluck out some of the random white hairs. Then I realized: All these people are the exact same age as me! Who the hell was I trying to fool?
The point is, some things happen naturally to your body over time. It's best not to worry about those things. If you're a fatty or a dummy, you can always diet or study. But gray hair... man, you're stuck with it. You better figure out how to embrace it, or start spending some ducats on Grecian Formula. When I noticed I was going bald, I just shaved it all off. Now, with each millimeter my hairline recedes, it just makes shaving that much quicker. Lemonade, baby! Lemonade!

The old tale goes " you (man) will have the same hair as your mothers father. ( so your grandfather). It's an old wives tale, but the little I have noticed over the years, it seems to be fairly accurate.

The reason why stress makes your hair go grey is that when your stressed your brain is working overtime. As a result it gets hot. If your stressed alll the time then it will always be hot. The consequence is that the melanan (the stuff that colours your skin and hair) gets burnt out and thus bleaches it. If its stress causing the greying then you need to find sufficient anti-stressing strategies

I started getting grey hairs on the sides when I was in my late-20's. They seem to be getting worse (now 32), but I'm not that bothered by it. Haven't had anyone complain about them.

I too started young, around 16 I believe.
Stress could be a factor, as countless amounts of people keep telling me. But at our young ages, I'm 21, I'm sure it's all heredity. But I sorta like my grey hair. Cause when I dye my hair, it stays coloured the longest and it looks cool when the rest of my head goes back to dark brown hair. |

my hair started going white (not grey) at 17...just like my grandmother...she was completely white by the time she was 35. I've been dying my hair ever since

I started greying when I was 17. For me, when my hair grew out a little longer (long in comparison to really short summer cut, not pony-tail length long), the grey tended to be much more hidden. You could only really see the grey with the occasionally REALLY white hair, which you can just pluck out. When I cut my hair short, it was a lot more noticable, particularly on the sides.
What do I suggest? Keep your hair short, dress appropriate, and watch all the girls swoon over you because you look 20x more sophisticated than all the other guys your age. |

There's definitely a hereditary factor to gray hair. Everyone on my mother's side of the family went gray early. My husband has some gray hairs, and he's only 26. But there's another factor for both of us: I'm a natural blonde (as in pale Malfoy) and he's a natural redhead. People with these hair colors tend to go gray early.
You can dye your hair, certainly, but you don't have to. A lot of people turn out with beautiful silver or pure white hair, like my mom and my grandfather. If you do decide to dye it, talk to a professional, because gray hair, like blonde, often takes dye very deeply and may require special treatment.

I started getting grey hair at 16, my girlfriends have always found it fun to pull them out. I get a couple more now and again, but I don't think it's because they have been pulled out. Don't worry about it, woman like more mature looking men. I'm sure it's just the start of a very long process.

Graying or whiting of hair IMO is mostly hereditary. I know there are other factors such as stress. I started graying when I was a senior in high school. Now at the ripe age of.... well in my 30's I have quite the salt n peppa going on.
Luckily, my sister is a hairstylist so I get my cuts for free and dyes for double that amount. It's funny, the younger girls love the dark hair look and the women my age and older like the graying look. It's actually a win win situation for me. The wife prefers it dyed. Now the kick in the balls is that a few months ago I started noticing that my moustache and beard/goatee had a hair or two in there that was of the non dark color. Damn, I'm getting old.

Well, I'm 21 and I got lots of it. I did some research at webmd.com and talk to a dermatologist,, and apprently, there are no cure for premature white hair. All they know is that the hair folicles stop producing pigments color, so the hair is does not looks like ur normal hair color. Nothing is wrong with my health, I excersize almost everyday. I guess we premature white hair peeps just have to live with it or dye the hair is the only solution.

I started getting grey hairs at a very young age, around 6 or 7. I'm now 30 and have a good amount of scattered greys. I've never had a problem with it and my wife thinks it's sexy. I've always attributed to stress as others have said and my mother swears it started happening after my brother broke his arm the first time. I was right there when it happened and had to run home to get my dad. Also, no matter what he says he fell off that jungle gym by his damn self, I had nothing to do with it...just wanted to point that out.
