cost of your workout?
hmmm i was doing some christmas shopping today and was suprised at how much weights cost?
Given they're just pieces of metal really, they did seem quite expensive? Like a 20kg plate was about $55 aus. So if i wanted to get 4 to put on my bars, it'd be about $200 Maybe i could get some second hand or something, but i was curious and the cost differences between getting some of your own equipment and just joining a gym? ALbeit i don't really like the gym environment so much..... What does your health/workout normally cost you? I only have a 2 25kg dumbells with exchangable plates, plus i normally resort to lifting furniture and other things as well cause sometimes they're not heavy enough. I normally stray away from the normals and do it yourself sorta stuff which consequently is very cheap. Although i have a job now, over the uni holidays, so maybe i could splash out a bit on some big ticket items But curious to what others normally pay, either on gym membership or equiment they've got, and also supplements or other related paraphernalia? $40/month for a fancy-shmancy gym with EVERYTHING
(my company covers the rest, normally it would be $80) $89/month for my Martial Arts classes I figure this isn't too bad, normally I'd pay 30/mo. for a smaller gym (like Gold's) (I don't even see the money go, it's taken right out of my paycheck) I prefer to go to a gym, that way I psych myself out, by being obligated to something I hate wasting money, I find I won't really workout at home. The Karate classes are unlimited (I could take it down to $69 if I signup for 18 mos.), and the tests are few & far between and cheap ($30) It's not a "belt school" and they really are teaching me something productive. |

Hmmm . . . about the same as Rogue:
$38 / mo. for the gym - I lack the discipline to work out at home $60 / mo. for MA class - also $30 per test - it's been a long time since the last one - I need to practice more (it's not a belt factory, either). Edited as a second thought - I guess if you factor in gas and driving time , it would go from about $100 / month to about $150. The gym and the dojang are both about 5 miles away.

$42/month right out of the paycheck, so I never see it. But since I know I'm paying it, it provides the incentive for me to go, so I'm not wasting money.
And I make sure I use everything the gym provides: pool, weight room, cardio, group exercise, racketball, and climbing wall. I think I get my money's worth.

Free!
At school, I have free access to the schools multiple gyms. My dad has a home gym when I come home that I can use, no cost to me. Also, my friend works at a local gym at home so I can get in for free there if and when I want to do more than I can just do at home! |

I pay $22 a month for access to all the nice Bally's Gyms here in my area. I consider this a bargain. In a typical week I get to use half a million dollars worth of gear and facilities...
-steam room -sauna -rock room -indoor olympic swimming pool -machines -free weights -all-you-can-eat hot showers You can't get that deal anywhere else. I don't see how buying any of this myself would ever save *me* money |

I pay about $40 a month for the gym [could probably go for free due to my job, but I don't]
Another $50 on supplements $30 in gym charges while traveling for business Gym is about 10 miles from my house, so time and gas too... Worth every penny, though...

$88.56 a month for me. $60 a month for my wife. another $50 or so a month in various lessons: rollerblading, gym boot camp, plyometric stretching class, etc. another $50 or so a month in work out clothes or equipment. In season, probably about $100-$200 a month in registration fees for races (most of these are tax write offs) So I guess all that added up is about $2600 a year.

FREE! Working in a metal shop has it's advantages. I just torch cut my plates from some 2" scrap and took 'em home. My weights don't look too professional but they work for me. The only problem is the weight isn't exact on each side. And I have no idea what they actually weigh.

$45 / month gym fee
$50 / month on protien definitely prefer working out at a gym over staying at home. much more incentive to go and make it worth the money. plus when i'm there i feel more motivated to have a good workout since i'm already there and i will push myself harder than i would if i were in my comfy home. (Note: all prices are in canadian $'s)

$48/month for the gym (for the family)
A few dollars for gas here and there. I bought a recumbant bike for $250 6 months ago, and it takes new batteries about every 3 months. The cost of working out is cheap compared to the benefits. |

Cost per pound
You should be in the $.30 a pound for olympic plates and around $.45 a pund for hex dumbells and $.60 a pound for plate dumnbells. You shoud shop around on-line and go to a local fitness store with that informatiuon. I have about $3,000 invested in my home gym that includes a few machines and a ton of weight. I usually get around 150 workouts a year in and my equipment is about 7 years old so it pays for itself over time.

Get a bicycle. Free exercise AND free transportation at the same time, in the great outdoors and it's fun as well, not to mention low impact. By far my favorite way to do cardio, and it gets me to work every day without costing me any gas money or causing any pollution. Lifting weights isn't for health, it's for vanity...
