Need Christmas shopping ideas!
OK, I need help shopping for Christmas gifts.
I've got my sister and my best friend squared away, which just leaves oh...around 15 more friends/family members. The big problem is the people I know who have certain hobbies, etc. have everything they need. And I don't want to get something completely generic like a gift basket. Any ideas for cool stuff people generally like in the $20-$100 range? I'm sure a lot of guys in addition to myself could stand to benefit from some advice. |

If you can't think of anything, gift certs are the way to go. Of course this seems a little impersonal, but if you're stumped. Otherwise, use my method, walk around the mall and most of the stores, and something will pop into your head for everyone you're buying for. Works every year.

That's a hard question, sense I don't know what hobbies your friends and family members are into. But, I would agree with absorbentishe on both accounts. Gift cards or certificates are always good, maybe write a personal note and attach it with the certificate? That's probably something I may end up doing for some of my friends.

I love giving picture frames, always with a special photo of that person, usually of me and that person. Target has these really cool shadowbox-type collage frames. It's a rectangular frame in either black or silver with four panes of glass, and you can layer the pictures. They're really fun, cute, and only like $15.
One of the best gifts I've ever received was a set of notecards with my name printed at the top. Very personal, very practical, and something I would have never thought to buy for myself. Or....get them a cool kitchen gadget, like a garlic press or a nice corkscrew. I never know what to buy anyone until I actually see it...so hit the stores, and maybe the ideas will flow.

CDs, if you know what kind of music they like. That always seems to work for me. That, or the idea about walking around the mall is a good way to go about it.
On a related note, (I hope you don't consider this threadjacking, it's just a sidenote) I'm not sure what would be an appropriate gift for a situation I'm in. There's a girl who I'm friends with, hoping for something more, but not sure if she is. What kind of present wouldn't be offensive, but is more than a friend to friend gift, but isn't like what a boyfriend would give? Don't answer if I'm breaking forum policy.

Wal-Mart gift cards are wonderful things. You could go around the store and make a list of cheesy "What I Would Have Gotten You" gifts, like the dancing hula girls available in the automotive section.
If you've ever enjoyed Chinese take-out with your friends, you could get them a small set of stoneware bowls and good chopsticks. Include a promise that you'll pick up an order for everyone sometime soon. The best gifts have a small personal element like that thrown in. |
