Urinating outside the box
I have a problem peeing. It seems that whenever I take a leak in the toilet, I always have 3 streams that shoot out in 3 different directions. Its a problem because 2 of them usually end up on the floor.
If I put a little force into it, I can sometimes get them to come together into one mighty stream... but I hear that its not good for your bladder to force it out. What gives?

Is that how you got your username?
I have that problem if I pee an hour or so after sex - seems some swimmers tend to stay in and clog the plumbing until flushed out. Other than that, I have no idea what could be causing that. I wouldn't make a special appointment just for that, but next time you do see a doctor, ask his/her opinion.

Split urinary stream is a symptom of prostatitis and prostate cancer, so you may want to consider seeing a Urologist. I don't know how old you are so I don't know what your risk is. I'd guess that since you're not describing any other symptoms that your risk is low. But I am not a doctor.
There are other possibilities, read http://www.prematuree.com/qa/qa.php3?qa_id=88. For instance: Quote:

It happens really bad after sex. I practically have to get on my knees to pee and keep my tallywhacker a few inches off the bowl to get it all to go in. Makes it really difficult if I'm sporting wood too. Remembers the scene from... what's it called... "Me, Myself, and Irene." That's me all the time.
Anyone else have this problem? I can't be alone on this one.

It can happen after sex or masturbastion often.
It can happen because you slept a certain way. there are several different reasons, maybe it will get to the point of you needing to sit down. oh well, such is life...but it's certainly not abnormal. just deal with it, as you would any of life's little quirks. |

Just sit down when you pee. I do it and I usually get it all into the toilet. Just because we can pee standing up doesn't meen we have to. That will at least fix the missing problem until more is taken care of.

I have to disagree with the tone of the responses here. Certainly, some dried secretions(semen) at the tip of the penis will split the stream, but that is an intermittant problem. Tiser states it happens every time he pees, which is not normal. Sounds like urethral strictures to me.
Urethral strictures can be harmful. In severe cases it increases the pressure the bladder must exert to urinate and can cause urinary retension, infections and even kidney damage. Best bet is to see a urologist. A family practitioner will just refer you as they can't treat this type of problem I don't mean to scare you, but I really think you should get it checked out to assess the severity of it. Good luck

Well, for the post-sex pee, if you don't want to sit down, lick your finger and rub the tip opening to clean it out before peeing. Hey, you were planning to wash your hands afterward anyway, right?

I have heard that a cause to this is lint from your boxers and underwear getting stuck in the tip of your penis causing a blockage and making it shoot out 100 different directions. When this happens to me I force it out harder and it usually flows into one stream, or like neato said, just sit down and pee, who said men have to stand up to piss???

No, a cathiter (I can't spell it either) is what the doctor pushes up your urethra to see inside your bladder, I beleive...
I've had one, unless I am remembering the name wrong. I was knocked out though. Hurt to pee for 3 days, but not to badly. |

I highly reccomend you see a urologist on this one. Could be nothing, could be something, either way it is not worth the risk of it being something.

The dreaded v-pee. I've read it's caused by a blockage, almost like the "sleep" you get in the corners of your eye in the mornings.

They also have condom catheters (aka texas rig). I think there is something similar sold at truck stops with leg bags. These are used if you don't have an obstruction and would still like to monitor urine output, keep urine out of the bed, can't get up to pee on your own. I think they also work if you're out at Mardi Gras without the bag and don't want to be bothered by finding a side street every hour or two.
Before urethral stricture is high up on the differential, it would be helpful to rule out a "turtle neck" as the cause especially if the problem is transient. BTW I think urinals are the invention you may have been speaking of. Last edited by Me So Horny; 11-26-2003 at 03:40 AM.. |

sometimes the opening at the end of the penis can tend to pinch in at different parts and divert the stream. Some people just have more than one (as strange as that sounds) branching off from the main one. if it's the former, just pinch beforehand so that it opens up, but if it's the latter...... good luck on that.

You're underwear is too tight. Losen it up, wear boxers or better, boxer briefs.
Honestly, when I am at home I just sit down to pee most of the time. If I had this problem, I would all the time. I'd rather that then have to wipe up after myself each time. I'm no doctor though, take none of this seiously.

It can happen if you've had gonorrhea or any kind of urinary tract infection; caught a urinary bug off my then-girfriend once -- not VD, thank goodness -- and I peed in a split stream for a couple of years afterwards. Doc said it was lingering congestion of some sort in the urethra. He said the same thing can happen if you use marijuana heavily over the long term, again because of congestion in the urethra.
