No. A lot of us are guilty of putting in 'Whitehorse to Cordova' instead of Dawson Creek. I'm taking the blame on this one. re:

The post in question that required the distance update was this one, which I was trying to not point out directly:

Went for my ride, followed it up with some tuna fish, took a shower then went to get a fruit smoothie! Man, that was a good smoothie . http://www.juiceitup.com/products_menu.html#smoothies (Lava Flow). Got it not for the nutritional value (which could be questionable at best), but because it is dang good! One of the few times in the world when coconut doesn't suck.

All you have to do to join is add your distance in the conventional format, clearly discernible above. Until then, here's my latest drop in the bucket:

Total distance = 3962.7 + 12.5 = 3975.2 km
Distance to Dawson Creek = 1370 + 12.5 = 1382.5 km (of 1404km to Dawson Creek, Canada)

Dawson Creek.

Some of you out there may think that Dawson Creek is a city in British Columbia. Boy are you wrong. Dawson's Creek is actually a television show that so was megahugely popular that it catapulted every single person who ever graced the screen into megahuge superstardom +1.

To clear up the misconceptions, let me break it down for you:

Dawson Creek is not a town in British Columbia known for being an agricultural town that is connected by railroads and highways. Dawson's Creek is actually a vehicle for selling stuff. Like music. A lot of music that snobs wish never became popular. And other stuff too. No one is really sure what Dawson's Creek was all about, but whatever it was, it was popular.

The fake Dawson Creek has some crazy page all up on Wikipedia that is obviously made by ignorant folks. They must have made up at least 99% of the bullpoop written on there. Here is an example (fake source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dawsons_Creek )

Quote:
The City of Dawson Creek is a small city in northeastern British Columbia, Canada. It covers an area of 20.66 square kilometres (8 sq mi) with a 2006 population of 11,615 people.[1] Dubbed "The Capital of the Peace", it is a service centre for the rural areas south of the Peace River and the seat of the Peace River Regional District. Dawson Creek turned from a small farming community to a regional centre when the western terminus of the Northern Alberta Railways was extended there in 1932, and the US Army used that terminus as a transshipment point in 1942 during the construction of the Alaska Highway. Most of the city's development occurred between 1942 and 1966 when highways and railways were built connecting the farming area of the Peace River Country to the rest of BC through Dawson Creek.

Dawson Creek derived its name from the creek of the same name that runs through the city. The creek was named after George Mercer Dawson by a member of his land survey team when they passed through the area in August 1879.[2] The city, at the southern end of the Alaska Highway, is known as the "Mile 0 City" and is also home to a regional fall fair, heritage interpretation village
What a bunch of hooey! HOOEY.

There are even fake pictures to try to lure people in:

Alaska has highways. RIIIIGGHHTTT. LIES.

Giant hockey sticks? Since when to Canadians even like Hockey? HAH. WOOL OVER YOUR EYES.

They were obviously getting desperate, trying to pass off a set of Elevators in their art gallery as art. FLAME ON.

No, truth is that because of Dawson's Creek we now get to live the lives of the biggest names in Hollywood, and possibly the universe.

James Van Der Deek (Dawson) - Leading man extraordinaire. Star of nearly 10,000 huge blockbuster films, and nearly an equal amount of award winning arthouse and indie films.

Michelle Williams (Jen) - Extreme humanitarian and adopter of the entire continent of Africa. Also figurehead for PETA and the NRA.

Joshua Jackon (Pacey) - After starring in a few teen-horror flicks, decided to give up the limelight and focus on his studies. Now a Nobel Peace Prize winning author for his book, Limes. They Make Mojitos and Things

Katie Holmes (Joey) - Faded into obscurity. Last seen in Las Vegas trying to get married at a 24 hour wedding facility to a large balding man with bad personal hygiene.

err.. carryover was a remnant from the last destination achieved. Ignore it now! (kicks copy&paste in their collective butt)

New York City is a pretty big place!! I spent about 20 hours in New York City, and spent a lot of that time wandering around in Central areas, the surrounding areas where there are less tourists, and in the downtown area when I found out one of my friends was in the area. I attached myself to his group of other people (I think 8-9 of the other people knew each other, my friend knew one guy). It was a lot of bar hopping, hookah smoking, and karaoke!! I wasn't too interested in the bar or hookah stuff.

Apparently, Edmonton is the cultural capital of Canada. Who knew?? From Wikipedia -
Quote:
Edmonton (IPA: /ɛd.mɪn.tɪn/) is the capital of the province of Alberta. It is on the North Saskatchewan River in the central region of the province, an area with some of the most fertile farmland on the prairies. It is the second largest city in Alberta after Calgary, with a population of 730,372 (2006[1]), and is the hub of the country's sixth largest Census Metropolitan Area, with a metropolitan population of 1,034,945 (2006[2]), making it the northernmost North American city with a metropolitan population over one million.

At 684 square kilometres (264 sq mi), the City of Edmonton covers an area larger than Chicago, Philadelphia, Toronto or Montreal. Edmonton has one of the lowest population densities in North America, about 9.4% that of New York City. A resident of Edmonton is known as an Edmontonian.

Edmonton serves as the northern anchor of the Calgary-Edmonton Corridor (one of four such regions that together comprise 50% of the Canadian population) and is a staging point for large-scale oilsands projects occurring in northern Alberta and large-scale diamond mining operations in the Northwest Territories.

Edmonton is Canada's second most populous provincial capital (after Toronto) and is a cultural, government and educational centre. It plays host to a year round slate of world-class festivals, earning it the title of "The Festival City".[3] It is home to North America's largest mall and Canada's largest historic park. In 2004, Edmonton celebrated the centennial of its incorporation as a city.

The Pyramids: These are the Pyramids of the Muttart Conservatory taken from the east side of the river looking towards the City of Edmonton skyline.

River Valley: This is looking North up the river valley towards downtown Edmonton on the left of the picture (West of the river). On the east side of the river you can see the outline of the University of Alberta.

One would think I should give details about the upcoming destination, but I see where the precedence lies.

Quote:
Banff is the largest town in Banff National Park, located in Alberta's Rockies, Canada. At 1,463 m (4,799.9 ft), it is the town with the highest elevation in Canada, situated above Bow Falls near the junction of the Bow and Spray Rivers. Banff is located 126 km (78 mi) west of Calgary and 58 km (36 mi) east of Lake Louise, on the Trans-Canada Highway. The town is now a member of the Calgary Regional Partnership, making it the westernmost municipality within Greater Calgary.

The resort town is a very popular tourist destination and is known for its mountainous surroundings and hot springs. It is a major destination for outdoor sports and features extensive hiking, biking, scrambling and skiing areas within the region. Two ski resorts are located in close proximity: Sunshine Village and Mount Norquay ski resort. Banff is the eastern terminus of the Rocky Mountaineer railroad.

Banff Mountain Festivals
October 27-November 4, 2007
The Banff Centre

Created more than 30 years ago, the Banff Mountain Film Festival has become the premier event of its kind in the world. The Festival showcases the best films worldwide in mountain subjects - alpinism, culture, environment, and sport - and attracts the best in mountaineering, adventure filmmaking, and extreme sports as presenters and speakers. From over 300 films entered into the competition, the top 50 to 60 films are screened during the festival. An international jury awards prizes for the best films in the categories of climbing, sport, environment, culture, short, and feature-length. Don't miss the 32nd annual Banff Mountain Film Festival in 2007.

Each year, running concurrently with the Film Festival, the Banff Mountain Book Festival brings the spirit of outdoor adventure and the tradition of mountain literature to Banff, uniting writers, publishers, editors, photographers, and readers. The 14th annual Banff Mountain Book Festival in 2007 will feature guest speakers, readings, seminars, an international book competition, a book fair, and book signings and launches.

Rode last Monday too! Whoops!

Todays contribution = 45 km (Monday) + 34 km (Saturday) = 79
Total self contribution = 1008 + 79 = 1087 km (20.7%)

Total distance = 5170.5 + 79 = 5249.5 km
Distance to Destination: 182.8km + 79 = 261.8 (of 985 km to Tacoma, Seattle)
