Google "homemade dog food" or "homemade cat food" and you will get a plethora of information about raw/ natural pet diets. I can't recommend this enough. My experience is much like Cap'n Kirk's - very heaalthy kitties with natually clean teeh, healthy gums and good digestion. My cat Tabi actually had some skin lesions due to detoxification (they lasted less than a week) and has been super healthy since. Kuma has a waist from losing about 6 pounds. IT WORKS! THEY LOVE IT!

Sorry, I have no recipe for dogs as I have 2 cats. 2 cast off kitties that were bound for cat heaven if I didn't take them in. They both eat people food seved up in a cat fashion.
I know I was skeptical about the whole food thing thinking that Spook was a fat cat because she was a house cat, however, she has lost a sizeable portion of fat and has a waist now. (Her belly used to drag on the ground and people laughed at her.) It was the fault of the crap food. All manufactured cat food (and dog food) is terrible terrible quality. Most pet food is made by big corporations. Big corporations are only worried about one thing, the bottom line. The way to a bigger bottom line is to increase sales and or to decrease costs. How do you decrease cost? You buy the cheapest crud you can find. You can buy bulk chicken and fresh veggies for a reasonable price. A can of tuna is only a few cents more than a can of crud cat food. People have been brainwashed that processed pet foods are "meant for cats" ( or dogs) Excuse me, but what did cats and dogs eat prior to 1890? or whenever they came out with processed pet foods? |

My only advice is to not let them graze. I saw you post about how much you feed her, "fill her bowl every day and a half" i think...
My experience with Nigel was that he was 19.5 pounds when i got him back (long story). He gets 1 cup of food a day (Iams tuna and rice). He is down to a spry 16.5 pounds. Still a big kitty, but not fat. He and his bro would eat all day long if we let them. Clyde is all about the food bowl. He just lays around waiting for dinner. *shakes head* anyway... I hear ya JTK. when i lived in europe, my folks made food for thier golden retriver. i used to joke that she ate better then we did.
