Wow. A friend of mine has a white car that hadn't seen wax since it left the showroom. She's been in the hospital, so I thought that I'd do a good deed and clean up her car for her. I planned to get some rubbing compound and work out all the black marks, then put a nice coat of wax on it.

Another friend of mine turned me onto Maguire's Cleaner Wax. Holy crap, this stuff worked wonders. It took out all the black water stains and made the car look lke brand friggin' new. I put a coat of carnuba wax over that, and the car looks damn pretty. Next time you can't seem to get stains out of your paint job, try this stuff.

Maguire's is excellent. I use it all the time. Another one is Blue Coral.

I use zano brothers personally....it's the best I have ever tried.

I'll agree that Meguiars is good stuff, but there's an inexpensive cleaner/wax that works great: Prestone synthetic wax. (Tall dark blue plastic bottle with gray top.)

I've used Meguiars, mothers, turtle wax, etc... I even read consumer reports and tried NuFinish. What makes most of these waxes tough to use it how long it takes to get the dried wax off your car. I've spent hours rerubbing areas on a dark blue mercedes just to make sure there were no more white marks.

The prestone works great if you want a quick wax/cleaner job that makes your car look good. It comes off so easy you'll feel like crying.

It's not a wax to use if you only want to wax your car once or twice a year, but if you want a quick wax that lasts for 2-3 months that only costs around 3$ it's the wax to use.

Another method of cleaning paint is Mother's Clay Bar. If you wash the car and rub the paint you will still feel buildup on the piant. With the bar you spray the liquid on then rub the bar on the surface until you do not feel it grab any more. The wipe the surface off with a clean rag. The paint should be smooth as a babies bottom. Mmm. Everthing just rolls right off, even the spray bottle will have a hard time staying on the hood or roof. Then apply a good wax. (I use the cleaner wax as well). The bar takes everything off, including wax so it is very important to get wax back on right away.

To remove wax from the car, try sprinkling a little corn starch on your clean dry rag. Cuts the wax right off.

Yes, if your gonna wax your car, clay is the best paint prep there is. It physically removes any type of grit or dirt in the clearcoat - which, if you don't remove, will just end up leaving scratches and swirls in the finish. A pre-requisite for the serious car detailer. Amazing how smooth it gets the paint.

Meguiars new NXT stuff works great. It is sooooo much easier than taking off their other waxes like gold class. It also seemed to do a better job than other ones that I have tried, but with a white car that is fairly clean anyway it is hard to tell.

I stick with the old Clay and turtle wax combo... mostly because i've had nothing but good experiences with turtle wax, and it's absolutely amazing how clean the clay can get the dammed car. Turtle wax comes off pretty easy for me usually.

Zainos really is better than Meguiars, but it's costly and requires someone to ship it to me. Downsides to everything, especially when Meguiars is damn good itself.
