Timex Ironman Triathlon

I have an old Timex Ironman Triathlon that I recently replaced the battery.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to set the date on it.

My google searches give me no joy. I even called Timex a call and the lady I spoke to said that the watch must be more than 12 years old as she had never seen one like mine and she had been there 12 years. She could not help.

It has 2 blue buttons ... at 7 o'clock it has a button marked 'Start' and at 5 o'clock it has a button marked 'Lap/Reset'. At 3 o'clock on the side it has a pull out button that has 2 positions. The first position lets me set the time, the 2nd position lets me turn the chime on and off.

Any suggestions?

on the back of it there should be a model number engraved in the stainless steel. try googling that.

or you can take a picure of it so we can get an idea of what model you're asking about.

That watch is different enough from mine that the instructions don't do it.

On the back the only number that could be a model # is 839MJ. Goggling that gives me one result (been a long time since I have seen goggle give only 1 hit), which is the Timex site.

I'll take a picture and post it.

It shouldn't be this hard, it's only a watch ... arrgh!

Thanks for the replies.

Pics of the old beast ...

Thanks for the links dlish.

I didn't find a picture on the site that was an exact match, but if I misread the code on the back of the watch and it actually is 839HJ then it was made in Dec 2000 according to the chart.

No luck with the simple watch instructions ... the quest continues!

greensinoz if you click on that link, look at the year 2001.

ive been comparing your watch to that one, and it seems like the same one. Although i cant read the code on the back of the watch on that website. maybe take another look?

Thats it! Thanks for gently telling me that I missed it.

Not sure how I breezed past that picture, but that looks like a match.

I was telling my stepfather about tapping into the collective wisdom of the internet on how to set the date on this watch. He asked for the watch and started fiddling with it. About 5 minutes later he hands it back to me and the date is set. It is some arcane procedure with the pull out knob and the buttons and if someone is interested, I can probably document the procedure.

He always manages to teach me something every time I visit.

Thanks to everyone who had a look and dug up information on it.

yeah telling the rest of us would probably help some poor soul online one day who has the same problem.

i could change the name of your thread to include the model number so that anyone searching for it can find it more easily.

congrats on getting it fixed!

setting date and other functions

you twist/rotate the dial until it says what you want to set, for example the date. Then you pull it out and twist/rotate until the date is right. For a sub-menu like Day, you go to set date like before, then pull it even further out and twist/rotate while you are still pulling it out.

You do this for all menus/submenus in the watch.

Hope this helps.
