Clean My Shoes

Hi,
I know there is already a thread about stinky shoes, but I thought this was different enough to warrent a new topic.
If you don't agree, feel free to merge them.

Anyways, I got dog poo allll over my sneakers the other day. I tried to wash them off, but I was at a friends house and didn't do a very good job. I think the poo water got all over the rest of the shoe. Possibly even soaked into the inside. I don't want to throw them out because they are relatively new, but I'm scared to wear them because they stink. I don't want my feet to smell like dog poo every time I go for a run.

Anyone have any suggestions?
I thought about putting them in the washing machine, but I thought that might ruin them.

Thanks a bunch.

next time, don't use water. Use a stick to scrape off most of it, then a damp cloth to finish the job.

By your description your shoes are already soaked in fecalwater. You're not going to ruin them much more by sticking them in the washer. I'd probably toss 'em in the washer on the most gentle setting and hope fort he best.

I think a good cleaning would probably solve the problem, but if it was me I'd go to a pet store and get that enzyme liquid used to deodorize cat spray and other pet odors and I would saturate the shoe with that after washing the shoe and let it dry.

The washingmanchine works really well, but i would advise against using the dryer. I have found that the heat makes them shrink/stretch in odd places. As long as the wash cycle spins at the end, thats usually enough to get most of the water out. Then just stuff the shoes with newspaper overnight and in the morning, voila: clean dry shoes!

Nope, washing machine shouldn't hurt a bit

I throw my shoes into the washer all the time, of course, laces off, they might turn out a lil messed up if you have the laces on.

It is fabric after all, and washing machine is for fabric, yeah?

Just how deep was this dog poo? i havnt ever stepped in anything that i couldnt get off with a stick and about 30 seconds with a garden hose while i was still wearing them. But then again i have worn nothing but work boots for the last 15 years. What are the shoes made of?
Next time you buy new shoes or if you do get those clean enough to keep yourself happy might want to try looking around for waterproofing stuff for them. Scotch gaurd or something like that.
