Pooping outside of a litterbox?
Well, my cat last night pooped on my comforter when I was sleeping, and as a result, my comforter is being washed/rinsed to try to get the poop off.
I had a couple questions, though, since I'm not too knowledgeable about cats. She almost NEVER poops outside of her litterbox, so why did she do that last night on my bed? How do you get the poop off? It was mostly dried, and I've run it through the wash twice, and it hasn't completely come off. How can I prevent her from doing that sort of thing again? |

Cats will occasionally have pee "accidents". Poop is generally a communication of some sort. Did you tick her off yesterday? Was the box clean? Anything out of the ordinary happen?
There's an enzymatic cleaner product called Nature's Miracle that does amazing things with pet stains (and other organic stains, for that matter). You totally saturate the stain with the material, and it enzymes the stain right out. Miraculous! You can get it at most any pet store. |

Rupert occasionally poops on the floor outside the litter box, but we think it's cause he gets obsessed digging the perfect hole, and he accidently drops one!

if you were in the bed and the comforter was on you... im guessing it was something the neighbor cats dared her to do. after she did it they were hanging together laughing like crazy. cats are weird like that.
That or the cat box wasnt clean enough or she just was trying to tell you that shes so much better then you you should just sleep in her litter box. cats are all spoiled rotten anyway.... i really need to get a couple kittens. miss having that kinda crazy around the house. makes me seem normal when i see a cat doing something totaly absurd. |

It was probably just dirty litterbox issues, but if it continues I would take her to the vet. Cats will go outside the litterbox to let you know something is wrong (i.e. she's in pain or isn't feeling right). Hopefully it's just an isolated incident.
Ratbastid said it - try Nature's Miracle or a 50:50 white vinegar/water mixture to scrub the stain out.

My cat is reading this over my shoulder and saying, "Yeah, I've wanted to crap on you when you were sleeping, but I've never had the guts to. That cat rocks."
After I stared him down for a minute or two, he relented and said, "Okay okay okay. Jeez. Her cat is trying to communicate something to her. That Plummie human has it right. If her cat does it again, and with a clean litterbox, then something is definitely up. If it happens again, it's probably time for a visit to the v.....vv....veehhhh.....I can't say it. You know what I mean." Now he's laying on the floor looking at me funny. I'm afraid to go to sleep.

I'm just reiterating what others have already said - if it's an isolated incident then it was likely due to a messy litterbox or your cat was just in a really bad mood. However if it happens again or with any regularity bring your cat to the vet ASAP. Also, be on the lookout for pee stains too because that could also be an indicator that something is wrong. Hope your comforter gets clean and everything it alright! ![]()

darn!!! LOL i seen "pooping outside...." on the last post thing, on the forum index, and clicked it expecting people talking about pooping outside
![]() .... were all the doors to her litterbox open? occasionally if they can't get to there litterbox they might poop elsewhere... most likely he might have been sleeping or distracted, and just couldn't hold it in?... like most kids have accidents in bed once and a while, even when they know how to use the toliet and flush... as long as she doesnt do it again, i wouldn't worry about it
