Swat 4

I recently got Swat 4 and I am impressed. It has all the good things about brothers in arms.

**Strategy**
The strategy is Swat 4 is the most crucial thing to the success of the mission. Knowing the map, enemies and civilians are crucial, they are shown in the briefing which one must watch for success! The enemies hide in excellent places such as the corners to either side of a door which are easy to miss in the initial inspection of the room and gives the enemy a point blank shot. The team control is crucial to the mission in order to not put yourself in harmsway. The mounted headcams on your team is critical in larger maps. The protocols one must follow in the game makes it even harder than most fps, you simply can't shoot the enemy, first you must tell them to surrender at this point the enemy will either surrender, shoot at you, run away or do "nothing". If the enemy surrenders then you must arrest him or order your men to arrest him, if he/she shoots then you have the right to shoot with deadly intent, if the suspect runs then you have to either follow or shoot, and if the suspect does nothing you have to use non leathal force ie. pepper spray.

**Weapons**
The weapon variety in the game is quite good with the ability to choose from 9 (I think) primary guns, 3 pistols and 5 extra slots which can be filled with non-leathal grenades, door stoppers, and/or optiwand (A device which lets you peer around corners and under doors). The primary weapons include, MP-5, MP-5 Silenced, .45 caliber smg, GB36s euro assault rifle, M4A1 m16 variant, paintball gun that fires pepper spray filled paintballs, beanbag shotgun, nova pump shotgun, and m4 Super90 shotgun. Pistol weapons include .45 caliber m1911, a 9mm pistol and a tazer gun. Flashbang grenade white flash followed by last seen image fading into the current image, stinger grenade makes vision go blurry and moving around, tear gas which is my personal favorite because no line of sight needed and wide area coverage, although some suspects are equipped with gas masks and lastly the pepper spray an excellent follow up for tear gas.

**Enemy Weapons**
The enemy weapons include, various pistols, mac-10's regular and silenced, AK-47 and variants, sawed off shotgun, and the most scary thing....every weapon availible to you, is eventually availible to the enemy except I have not yet seen them use any of the grenades or other tactical weapons.

**Maps**
The maps in Swat 4 are amazing, despite the lack of heavy rendering or excellent textures like in some games Swat 4 makes up for it by making the environment, mood and overall look realistic. There are the right type of objects in every map, the rooms are not pristine like some games nor are they always grimy but they look lived in and worked in.

*****SPOILERS*****
Here is a mission by mission summary of all the missions I have completed and tips on each one.

Food Wall: Make sure to send one team to go in through the main entrance and one to go through the back entrance, suspects will be found primarily in the walk in freezer and second story but be cautious about the bathrooms, kitchen and area in front of the back door. Can easily be done completely with non leathal weapons.

Fairfax: This one is just creepy, equip team with smg's and expect the suspect to be in the garage or one of the basement rooms. Gives you the chills.

Qwik Fuel: Suspects will be in the front store part and the back office part. Use smg's perhaps one shotgun and be prepared this is one of the harder first few.

A-Bomb night club: This one is the most difficult yet, you can easily get lost in it and lose track of the suspects that run off, expect civilians and suspects everywhere. Use a more heavy duty smg or rifle.

Victory Auto's: This one is moderately difficult but will take a ton of tries. Expect 4-8 suspects on the lowest level both in the rooms and in theparking areanext to the stripped/broken car and in the fenced off area with the electrical transformer. Target civilian will either be in the open room that can be seen at the top of the lower flight of stairs or in the understair closet near the confederate flag.

Red office: Take a level by level approach, set entry to the bottom level and don't use tear gas because the suspects have gas masks.

Vending Machine shop: This one is just difficult because you are given a suprise in the map. Easy to get lost.

Diamond center: Armored suspects with good weapons makes this one extremely difficult use a combo of 45 caliber SMG and shotgun or rifle and shotgun. Start at the top level by the elevator.

Children of Tarrone cult: This one is freaky also, a whacko cult threatens to blow up their aparments and a chnk of the city with it. Unarmored unmasked suspects with shotguns and rifles. Expect the most suspects at the makeshift church and 2 level chemical pot place.

I have finished more levels and will add them later. I give Swat 4 a 9/10

I Love this game so much, except I can tell online is gonna be really gay in time... Like ive already noticed how stupid it is when you use the pepper gun and just go in and blind everyone than handcuff them, but its really fun, CO-OP is fun, replay value is great, Even the Multiplayer functions are fun, I really enjoy this game!

I've heard good things about this one.

Something I should mention that hasn't...

X-play mentioned that the "enemies" are randomly distributed throughout the level every time a level is loaded. Which means it's impossible to know where every bad guy is every time you jump into a level. That sounds pretty neat, huh?

It's true, and it's amazing how much more fun it makes the game. One thing I really hate in games is where there is one hard guy that jumps out around the same corner and caps me over and over again. With the random placement, you never know where that guy is, so it's not frustrating as hell when you find him. Plus, it gives you a chance to take him out from a different angle the next time.

The thing about the random placement I like the most, is that it never feels like you're doing the same thing over when you fail. Usually, once I've played a map enough, I get used to where everone is and I just run through a map taking perfect headshots at every enemy. With this one, it's a challenge every single time. You never know what's around the hall or through the next door.

By the way, I really like this game. It's added a whole new dimention to the FPS for me. I'm so used to just running in and shooting everything that moves, or unconditionally killing the bad guys. In this one, you actually get more points for not killing them... but then sometimes, you have to. There are many times where you have just a split second to figure out if the person running right at you is trying to kill you, or get away from a mad man in the next room. It's also really rewarding when you clear an entire map without killing a single person, because it is usally very difficult. One time I tried stunning a guy with a flash bang, but he just kept running... so I gassed him with pepper spray, which slowed him down, but he refused to drop his gun, so I shot him in the leg with a pistol, and he finally surrendered and lived.

Awesome game. Really, if you like FPS, but also like strategy games, this is way cool.

I picked it up, and started playing through. Starts out easy enough, but the A-Bomb club mission really picks up the difficulty. The realism is good, but it sort of goes the way of gameplay in terms of mission scale. A briefing where "a few suspects" barricade themselves in a building turns into "a three story building with about 15-20 bad guys" real fast once the mission starts.

There's a good bit of strategy to it, and you really have to be careful. I tend to keep my squad grouped about 85% of the time, and split room clearing 50/50 with the team. This spreads risk. Door wedges are essential to keep the enemies bottled up and to keep cleared areas clear. Breaching is hit and miss. I used a C2 charge on a small bathroom one time, and got capped by a suspect standing 3 feet from the door. Generally speaking, the slower you go the better. Walk, don't run. Don't just look before you leap, look two or three times.

To get a really high score at the end, you have to minimize (essentially eliminate) lethal force. This isn't the easiest way to go in larger levels. Lethal force lets you protect yourself. If they pull a gun, you fire. With a non-lethal weapon like the pepper gun, you have the advantage of shooting first, but about 10-25% of enemies will get a shot off. When you have to take out 15 guys, it's pretty easy to get whacked around one too many times.

Still, that unpredictability is what's so good about the game. It's not like Raven Shield where you have perfect maps, over-extensive planning, heartbeat sensors, and a broad license to shoot everything that moves. You get fewer weapons to choose from, but more practical gadgets and a better squad interface. All in all, quite a fun game to play.

I found a terrific mod for the game that really makes it a bit more fun:

http://www.sheriffsdpt.com/main.html

Go to downloads, get the SSF realism mod. The guns aim a little bit tighter, and zero in faster, plus you get access to the enemy weapons (silenced uzi, ak-47). You can also carry primary weapons as secondary weapons, and vice versa (ie, you can have a beanbag shotty and an mp5). I read through the list of changes, and I thought they all sounded great, so I put on the mod. As simple realism mods go, this one gets a 9/10.

Wow, i just downloaded that ^^^^^ and it is so much better, sometimes the accuracy of guns was ridiculous to both extremes but now it acts like how it really is. i reccomend this mod to everyone.

It's cool, but having a combat shotty, less than lethal shotty, and a breaching shotty is pretty insane. Better aiming makes the game a bit easier, but I play on medium difficulty, and it should be a bit more doable in some places. Glad you liked it.
