Half Life 2 footage from E3
Forgive me if it's been brought up already, I saw someone mentioned Halo, but has anyone seen the tech demo from Half Life 2? Someone posted it to alt.binaries.multimedia (i think) the other day, and it looks absolutely wicked. I don't know whether to be happy it's coming out because it looks great or sad because it'll cost me $700 in computer upgrades to even contemplate playing it.
If you haven't seen it, it's well worth the download from one of the newsgroups if you find it. |

Yep, Slashdot Games had a bittorrent link for 8 different 30-40meg quicktime movies, and they kicked major ass. I was totally blown away by some of the stuff in them. I haven't seen other companies come close to pulling off some of the stuff they are doing. Really impressed me. I wasn't a huge fan of the first HL, but I am very pumped for this one.
If you are sick of new and improved just pertaining to the graphics, I strongly suggest you check these out. Everything in the environment was interactive. |

Saw it...and was blown away. BTW: nice to see others using newsgroups, they've always been the real 'core' of internet fun for me.
So the demo....incredible. Now, the whole environment is not interatctive, but probably 75%, which is far more than any game on the market today. A totally deformable game would be even mroe of a hog than this one is gonna be, but still is kind of an ideal that I hope will come along some day. The interesting thing about this game is that when you go back to something like UT2003, which is beautiful in its own right, it just doesnt look as, well, real. The only thing we said as we watched this the other day is, "it just looks so realistic." I find that to be the highest compliment. The outdoor scenes are free from aliased corners and buildings. Stunning. The one thing i find really funny is that everone I know is planning an upgrade JUST TO PLAY THIS GAME. Wouldn't it be funny if there were a huge surge in pc sales from July to Sept of this year? I can foresee that hapening...just for this game. What a kick! I, for one, have a PIII 1G, so yeah, an upgrade was already in my future. Now I have a really good reason to shop this summer! |

Fileplanet has the hi-res full length movie or you can go to www.halflife2.net and get all the quicktime movies.
I've must have seen it at least four times already and I still can't belive it. Word is also that it's scalable to run on a 900mhz with a TNT2 card but I wonder if it would still look that good. I have a 1.2 T-bird with a GF4Ti4200 and I still plan to upgrade for it. Everything about this game makes me very excited. Can't wait.

Doom III and Half-Life 2.... the reasons I will be buying a new graphics card within the year.
Saw the demo and it's awesome. Looks like it'll be a ton of fun.

A friend of mine spoke to Gabe Newel(sp?) of Valve and he did say they plan to port to Apple and Linux. Not just a linux server but a full client. I hope this is true.
