I heard it's pretty fuckin' awesome. I might have to rent it and check it out. Supposedly the best one since MK2.

I saw a commercial for it and thought, "Holy shit.. that's sweet." But then I remembered that the MK series was fairly simplistic in the fighting structure... I wonder if this is any better.

One after Deadly Alliance!? I thought that would be the one to end it all...

I picked it up yesterday, got the last copy they had. Its pretty good, it isn't spectacular. It can't even touch Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution, but its a good game nonetheless. The online play (via Xbox Live) runs incredibly smooth and lag-free.

The new "Konquest" mode (Mortal Kombat RPG, basically) sucks total ass, it has some of the worst graphics I've ever seen on consoles of this generation, it looks exactly like a Nintendo 64 game. "Konquest" mode is basically a big tutorial for the game, disguised as something new. It consists of a bunch of "Go from point A to Point B and talk to a person and/or grab [insert item/artifact/Kamidogu here] and bring it back" type missions, where you can gain "Koins" to spend in the "Krypt" to unlock new characters, outfits, stages, movies, artwork, pictures, and etc. After some missions the person you are working for (basically a MK character) will train your character in their particular style of martial arts.

The Kamidogu are some sort of ancient artifacts that have some special powers or something, that the Elder Gods can use to fight evil in the world. After you collect the Kamidogu in each world (Earthrealm, Netherrealm, Chaosrealm, etc) you will return to the "Nexus" (a series of portals to other realms), to move on to the next Kamidogu to collect. What really sucks about Konquest mode, is that you HAVE to play through it if you want to unlock all the characters/stages. You can gather keys in Konquest mode which unlock special tombstones in the "Krypt", which contain the characters/stages/costumes/etc.

IGN Xbox's Review of Mortal Kombat: Deception (8.8/10)
GameSpot's Review of Mortal Kombat: Deception (8.5/10)

For Mortal Kombat fans, you'd love this game. For fighting game purists, stick with Soul Calibur II, Virtua Fighter 4, and/or Guilty Gear X2 #Reload.

I'd give the game a 7.5/10.

I only ask, why would spend your money on ANOTHER Mortal Combat (yes i know its spelled with a K), WOopdeDoo it has better graphics then the last, more chars, /shrugs. But its the same game, beat them to a pulp and kill em. It got old after the second MK. THats my 2 cents, Yes i played it and i only give it a 2/10

Hmm, wow, you've nailed every single fighter on the planet with that remark. Methinks it's not your genre.

Actually, it has slightly worse graphics than Deadly Alliance.

I've been playing this a bit, it's very awesome.

As a fan of other fighters like Soul Calibur II and Virtua Fighter 4, I can honstestly say that this game is kick ass.

It has it's unique style with a few twists (combo breakers, etc..), but it really feels like older mortal kombat games in some strange way. It's hard to explain, but you'll see what I mean once you play it. Graphics are a bit better than Deadly Alliances.

Konquest mode is kinda stupid. They had it perfect in Deadly Alliance but instead made it more of an RPG type thing. I mean.. it's okay if you're a beginner, but if you know what you're doing, it kinda sucks to have to play through it. As mentioned above, you don't HAVE to play through it, but if you do, you unlock extra levels and characters.. and there's a pretty big surprise at the end which is worth it.

The fighting genre has been pretty bland over the past few years. I'd have to say that this, Soul Calibur II, and VF4 are definitely the top 3. For what it is (a fighter), it's a damn good game. 9/10 easily. I'd give it a 10/10, but those ratings are usually reserved for games that have me hooked non-stop (such as Metroid Prime, or Ocarina of Time)

The online play, Chess/Puzzle Kombat are sweet addtions. Puzzle Kombat is addictive and very fun to play against someone else. Same with Chess Kombat. I just wish they had the team tournament that one of the past MK's had (I can't remember which one it was).

The Kollector's Edition/Premium Pack isn't worth the extra money, the "arcade-perfect" port of Mortal Kombat sucks total ass, the controls aren't as responsive as they were in the arcade, and the sound is crappy (compared to the arcade's). And the video that is included is the same video that was in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, which showcased Mortal Kombat's history and timeline, except with Mortal Kombat: Deception added in to the history.

Also, the Nintendo GameCube version of Mortal Kombat: Deception will not be in stores until 2005.

Out of the PS2 and Xbox versions, I feel the Xbox version is superior. (Slightly) better graphics, Dolby Digital 5.1 support, and smoother online play. The controls in both versions are still somewhat unresponsive compared to other fighting games.
