Anyone else hates GTA?

I seem to be the only one who doesnt enjoy the game as I should be. Collecting all the stuff is more tedious than enjoyable.

The car controls are good, but the "walking" controls just stink. I know its not a fighting game, or a "final fight" type of game, but the fighting engine need some SERIOUS improvement. If the game wants to incorportate fighting/gunning action into it, it should be somewhat good. But right now, those fighting/gunning sequences are just tedious and frustrating. And whats with the jumping? I hate it how he always jumps foward.

And all this talk about the game granting you an unprecedented amount of liberty. People seem to have associated the concept of "liberty" with being able to kill anyone. As for me, I still feel pretty confined within the limit of the game when Im playing. Really, there isn't THAT much you can do. Most of the "different" things you can do in the game (taxi, firetruck, ambulance...) revolve around the same concept anyway: Getting from point A to point B.

About the music. Its mostly good, but its just annoying not being able to listen to a full tune being having to switch car.

Overall, there are so many things that could have been done to improve the game imo.

Honestly, I think you are the only one.

You can kill hookers, that alone is worth playing the game. It's not supposed to be a game like dead or alive 3 or anything, the fighting is simplistic, i'd rather be able to do what i want, and drive around a huge town, than have a better combo system for when i have to use my fists in the game.

Any game where you have a three minute golf cart chase prelude to an assination is gold in my book.

And the Scarface quality of Vice city, gold.

exactly how much stuff do you want to be able to do, and how many 200 gig hard drives are you willing to buy to store the game that lets you do EVERYTHING?

compare GTA to previous games of its genre. The city map is infinitely larger, you're not restricted from going certain places by artificial walls ala Need for Speed series, YOU choose whether to kill someone or not, and most of the time you're not REQUIRED to do it. Pretty advanced IMHO.

i agree with the poster to a point. it's a game where you kill stuff, collect stuff, and drive around. whoopee.. it's the same as GTA the old top down version. I am annoyed at the fanboys more than anything. Just because you werent old enough to make purchases when the old game came out, doesnt mean it's the greatest thing since sliced bread now that you can buy it. Same old shit, just with a new coat of paint..
Same thing with Halo too..

This is going to sound odd... while I do really like GTA 3 and Vice City, the characters and vehicles seem to sometimes lack a sense of weight. The physics seem right, but there's just something I can't put my finger on.

I LOVE the new GTA's.
Love 'em
But that's not to say they are perfect.

I agree with you about the out of car control, and the gun aspect. Far from perfect. I think the liberty of the game is referring just to the fact that you can play by the missions, or not. Also, you can run around on the streets, go inside a bunch of buildings, and find hidden areas to explore. These aspects make the game that much cooler, and I'm glad games like, say Spiderman 2, are following in its footsteps. I've passed all the missions, but I can still pop it in and spend an hour playing it crusing around in a chopper or trying to kill myself and others around me on a motorcycle

nothing beats getting healed out on the beat with a hooker in your car, then when she gets out.... Just hitting her with a baseball bat. Sure sounds morbid, but its fun, and its 6 am... and.. well shit.. I gotta go to bed. haha... Night All.

Yep, but imagine all the youngsters playing it...
It's yet to be seen what effect these games will have on them.
We shall see.

I'm way over 20 and I like games like GTA, Battlefield, Max Payne.
My first computer was Atari 800XL and then Amiga when Dig Dug and Bubble Bobble were the most violent games...
Then came the Barbarian! THAT was Childs Play compared to the games that are played now...

If youngsters are playing it their parents should be flogged. This is not a game that was designed for children to play. We can't pick on something just because it's not kid-suitable. If we could, we'd have to outlaw cars, alcohol, weapons of any kind, and amusement park rides that you have to be "this tall" to ride. After all, imagine what would happen to the youngster that got his hands on any of these items?

Heck, neck time screw a hooker and ran her over with a car. You will be getting a permenent 6 star wanted level.

I think GTA 2, 3, and Vice City are all good games, but many of the criticisms made are oh-so-true (especially the normal running controls). I think GTA is a great game for renting once or twice if you want to just goof off and kill people while driving in the wrong lane with a stolen firetruck, and it's a good game for being taken seriously while you do the missions. I just hope San Andreas improves the engine and other aspects much more, because not one of them has been worth buying yet beides 2 (that's 'cuz I bought it new for $10 bucks).

And a great plot, good graphics, the best vehicle physics in a non-racing game I've ever seen, incredible voice acting and motion capturing, a good soundtrack, and the most open-ended gameplay out of any game that's ever came out.

Yeah, this was a really good game. I just don't see what there is to hate about it. If you don't like violence, then don't play it. You should know what you're getting into with a game like GTA.

each person's hobby is that person's hobby for whatever reason. if they like it, fine, let them like it. it's not your place or anyone else's to tell them not to do what makes them happy, especially in such a demeaning tone. remember that.

and for the record, i haven't played much, but what i have seen of gta3, i like.

You're just saying that because people automatically assume that gamers play it because it's violent. Otherwise you wouldn't be criticizing the game's most strong elements: gameplay, music, and graphics.

Yeah, GTA did a lot of things in a mediocre fashion. I mean, yeah, it's fun to snipe people, but there's no percision in the game. You can hit them in the knee and kill them. It's a BASIC shooter, BASIC driver, BASIC fighter.

I don't love some of the things I somehow find myself doing when I play this game. It's fun to watch the blood spurt when you've taken someone's head off with a sniper rifle from ten yards, but i wouldn't say it nourishes the soul, exactly.
On the other hand, pinching a tank is a brilliant laugh; as is shooting-down police choppers. It seems like an illicit thrill, which just adds to the fun when things really start to kick-off
Best enjoyed in small doses, like any such game.

I like many aspects of the game, but the challenge to many missions is simply to overcome the awkward out-of-car controls. i totally agree with the poster. it's a good game, but most of its popularity had come from the content and setting rather than the physics/gamelplay.

I just got done playing some more Vice City and all I can say is it only gets boring if you let it get boring. I am done with all the missions and most of the collecting but the game still owns me.

Oh and the physics own all. There is a learning curve as with all games. Now I can drive with one hand and not crash at all.

I'll argue that GTA 3 and GTA Vice City were actually made popular by their physics and gameplay. Were GTA 1 and 2 that popular? Not really, but people did notice the adult content. When 3 and Vice City came out, they went through the roof in popularity due to their extremely open-ended gameplay experiences, great physics, and compelling stories. I still haven't played an action game to even come close to rivalling the last two GTA games' vehicle physics engines.

I'll agree that the on-foot shooting could improve, even though the running system/car jacking system works fine.

I thought it was an OK game. It was fun to drive around and do whatever you want. It did get old after awhile. I have and xbox so had to wait to play it for quite awhile. I guess it got so much hype that when I finally got to play it, it couldn't live up to it. I guess I expected more than what I got. Held my interest for a couple of weeks and then back to the good games.

I'd get bored with it too if I just drove around! Have you tried the missions, or the actual plot gameplay? That's where the fun is. I can't stand just driving around in the GTA games. If people buy them and don't do the missions, then I can see how they'd get boring!

Jesus! Does no one listen to the gameplay quotes? Going around killing people and destroying things is NOT the point of the games! If you just drive around and kill people, then you're simply not playing the games right. I said it before, and I'll say it again: if you're just driving around and not doing the missions, then I can see how boring these games can get. But that's NOT how they're meant to be played! There are actual missions. They follow the incredibly story behind the last two games, and make the gameplay much better with its open-ended aspects.

I'm tired of people saying the last two GTA games were boring when they act like all they've been doing is driving around and shooting people. Of course they'll be boring that way! Damn, there's no reason to play Vice City if you're only gonna do that!

To those that haven't played the missions of the last two GTA games: play them, and see why they are known as two of the best videogames ever made. You'll love them, I promise!

Personally I love the games! GTA3 and Vice City at least. It allows you to bring out the inner thug in all of us. What can be more fun than planning a hit, executing it, and then having to avoid the cops until you can hit the pay and spray! Then once you hit the pay and spray, you have to go find a hooker to bring up your life points!! Classic!! Every once and awhile I find myself going postal, just to see if I can get up to 5 Stars and make a get away!

Side note: How come I can't get the full 5 stars?? I can get up to 4, then the choppers come, the FBI Comes (VIce City) but I still can't get 5 stars...
