Or maybe that one where you gotta press buttons and shit.. yeah.. that fucker keeps me entertained for hours
|
you want a game for christmas...
i recommend twister. |
Medal of Honor: Rising Sun is a pretty good one, it's short on easy, but gets harder as you go up the difficulty levels (yeah I know, that's a well duh statement) and that gives it its replay value and keeps you tryin to beat it for hours on end.
|
Need for speed underground is on my wishlist. You can check out the demo, it's great.
|
GUNBOUND!!!!!!!!!!

What to get the kids
I have a 7 year old and a 4 year old (both boys). We are going to get a gaming system for them this year. I just had no idea which might have the best selection of games for the younger kids. The games don't necessarily have to be educational. They like playing Spiderman on the computer. I see a bunch about the Playstation and the Nintendo, but I have no idea which has the best game availability. Any suggestions?
|
Gamecube seems to generally have more games for youngins.
|
I'd agree the Cube has a great line up of games for the younger kids, it's also cheaper right than the other consoles. The Xbox is mostly aimed at older or more mature gamers. The PS2 has a wide selection of everything. However the PS2 is more damage prone than the cube.
The mario games are something you might want to look into for the cube. |
Get a Gamecube. Cheaper, and has more kid-games. Also much more durable than any of the three systems.
-Lasereth |
Definately a Gamecube. Great price and a nice variety of kid friendly games. The controller should fit a kids hands better then either other console too.
And like it's been mentioned above, it's a lot more durable then a PS2. |
Thanks. My kids can be kind of rough on things. They haven't grasped the concept of putting CDs back in cases yet, so a bunch of their games get ruined by scratches, etc. I'm going to take them to Best Buy this weekend to find some games they might like.
|
also, theres a few more mature titles for you, if you're interested
|
The Gamecube is a great choice. Not only does it have a number of games oriented for kids, but it has a lot of games that are oriented towards FUN. I mean, Mario Kart, Zelda, Super MOnkey Ball? All awesome!
|
yea game cube is the best system for a family
lots of great kids games |
Gamecube :)
Mario Cart Racing (double dash or something) is a great game and something you can play with them too ... zelda maybe for your older one , great game |
I hate to say it but yes, get them a Gamecube. Young kids will love it and it's cheaper...
Sorry Mr. Gates, I had to do it. |
thanks mr deflok
|
next time please try to be a wee bit more discriptive in your posts when you actually want some information.
If you come here asking "im looking for this thing".. you're opening yourself up to a whole world of mockery :) Sorry if we hurt your feelings or anything.. |
PS 2 Game Questions
hey y'all. alright, heres the situation. i've put off getting a PS 2 long enough and I am going to get one for Christmas. I was hoping those of you who are veteran PS 2 players could give me the names of some good games. I love rpgs and fighting games, so that would be the preference. Thanks.

X-Box for the birthday boy...
So my wife actually bought me an X-Box for my birthday.
God bless her, I know how much my playing computer games annoys her. I also know I'm far too old to play them, but I like it! Any recommendations for good games? I bought Crimson Skies with it and am enjoying it immensely. usually I go for strategy type games on the PC but I know the X-Box is more geared towards arcade style. Also, is X-Box Live! any good? cheers guys, Mr Mephisto |
sweet, welcome to the club. Hope you enjoy your box.
As for the games, I'll start by saying the best FPS is of course Halo. The best fighter is Dead Or Alive 3 or Soul Calibur 2. RPGs:Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Morrwind: Game of the Year, & Shenmue II are the only real RPGs worth buying on the system. The best sports games are: Football: ESPN NFL Football (NCAA 2004 for college) Basketball: ESPN NBA Basketball Hockey: ESPN NHL Hockey Tennis: Top Spin Golf: Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 Snowboarding: SSX 3 Skateboarding: Tony Hawk 3 Racing: Midnight Club II, Moto GP 2, Pro Race Driver, Project Gotham Racing II, Need for Speed Underground & NASCAR Thunder 2004. Those are all great racing games. (the ESPN games by Sega you can play online, the same is true for Top Spin, Midnight Club 2 & Project Gotham Racing II.) Since you mentioned strategy games, the best game in this genre currently on the box is Gladius by LucasArts (It's a Strategy/RPG). It is turn based however. On a different note a few of the best but different types of games on the system are Jet Set Radio Future, Panzer Drgoon Orta and GUNVALKYRIE, the aren't for everyone but they are great games if you like the genre. Finally, LIVE is fun, but it's not great. Your gaming experiance all depends on who you find to play with truthfully. Personally, I haven't experianced to much lag or too many kids online with social problems, but they are there. LIVE is what you make of it, I think it's good and it is only going to improve and grow. Currently LIVE is mostly geared towards sports and combat fans with a few racing games. Also if you plan to sign up for LIVE make sure you check out all the LIVE payment plans at xbox.com |
The best XBox games currently out (in my opinion) are:
Halo Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Project Gotham Racing 2 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Game of the Year Edition Grand Theft Auto: Double Pack SSX3 Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War Rainbow Six 3 MechAssault Panzer Dragoon Orta Soul Calibur II Tony Hawk's Underground Beyond Good & Evil Deus Ex: Invisible War GUNVALKYRIE (hard as HELL) Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance SSX Tricky True Crime: Streets of L.A. Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions Colin McRae Rally 3 Kelly Slater's Pro Surfer Max Payne Midnight Club II Need for Speed Underground Project Gotham Racing Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Lord of the Rings: Return of the King Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance NASCAR Thunder 2004 Freedom Fighters Hitman 2: Silent Assassin Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Island Thunder Metal Arms: Glitch in the System Steel Battalion Ninja Gaiden Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne MX Unleashed Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Hunter: The Reckoning MTX: Mototrax Dynasty Warriors 4 James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing Phantasy Star Online Episodes I & II Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy The Suffering Blood Wake Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc Gladius Otogi: Myth of Demons Red Faction 2 Armed & Dangerous RalliSport Challenge 2 Manhunt Hitman: Contracts NBA Ballers Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow Colin McRae Rally 04 Hope this helps! I used Electronic Gaming Monthly and IGN to make this list. -Lasereth |
Lasereth, I can't believe you didn't mention any mainstream sports games!
And I forgot to mention a game called Steel Battalion. Mostly likely if you don't have it you won't find it. It's $200 and it comes with a huge, and i mean huge custom controller made just for this stellar mech game. However, if you can get your hands on it, it is most likely the best mech game ever made. |
Splinter Cell
Halo Halo 2 (coming soon) Soul Caliber 2 Max Payne 1 & 2 Star Wars KOTOR |

So I got Midtown Madness III with the box. It's OK, but not much run really. You can bash the shit out of your cars and it doesn't seem to affect them. Also there's no effect of running over pedestrians... hah.
So, I was wondering if there's any good driving games where you can play against another player, has realistic damage, maybe a bit of realism etc. I guess something along the lines of GTA, but that's a bit old now, isn't it? Mr Mephisto |
GTA? You can get GTA3 and Vice City on the Box, same game just a few minor graphical enhancements, still no better than the PC counterparts but still very very good.
|
Please excuse my rambling post above. I've had a bit too much wine this evening!
So, is there something like GTA available on the X-Box? I remember playing a game on the PC years ago called Carmagedon (sp?). Kinda sick but fun, as you got points for running over pendestrians. It was banned in Australia, so you had to download the "blood patch"... strange conservative censors... Dead or Alive 3 is a zombie game, right? It seems like it would be fun. Thanks guys... Mr Mephisto |

Dead or Alive 3 is a fighting game. Never played it, but I've heard good things about the series. They're no Soul Calibur, but they're decent! -Lasereth |
