Will there ever by another Fallout game

Hey

I think the greatest games I've ever played must be fallout and fallout 2. I also tried Fallout Tactics.....but that didn't do it for me. Does anyone know if there are any plans for making Fallout 3 ?

Does anyone have any suggestions about other roleplaying games i could try out that are similar to fallout

After the (sad) demise of project jefferson, the future of BIS looked pretty bleak, from the fans' perspective, but since Interplay and WotC fragged BIS over due to Jefferson, us fans felt that FO3 was probably the best next project to tackle, since BIS need'd have worried about D&D rules and crap.

Sadly, licensing and financial issues (at that time) came into play, and F3 looked unlikely, as BIS annouced that Jefferson was indefinately suspended and that they would concentrate on their platform games for the time being. We basically has to be satisfied with IWD2....

Shortly after that, a new game was reportedly under development, codenamed Van Buren (BIS code all their projects with the names of US presidents. I want to see what type of game Clinton will be). Van Buren might be FO3. we hoped. Supposedly Van Buren would have hit the shelves early in 2004, but then J.E. Sawyer left (head designer, and all-round great guy), which made the fans howl in anguish. FO3 is probably the most anticipated game in the CRPG community, and Fallout is definately the BIS ghame with the most fans. And our opinion is that Interplay should go **** itself.

I just visited BIS's sub-forum at http://forums.interplay.com
Doesn't seem like much has changed in the last couple of weeks. Officially, Van Buren is still to be released next year, but Interlpay's track record at canning games in pre-production doesn't bode well, especially considering the silence on their pasrt of late. And then Van Buren might also not be FO3.

Hope this answers your question.

sure thing.

I'm a bona fide BIS fan. Used to hang on their boards every day, but a whole score of us left when Interplay closed down the community forums early in this year. But I check in every now and again....

Glad to keep fellow gamers out there updated. Check out the BIS forum from time to time. BIS is unique i that their design team actually do read their message boards and answer fans' queries. Some of our suggestions haev even been incorporated in games (BG2: ToB & IWD2). Great Company, Great Guys. Too bad they belong to Interplay.

fallout rules- I cant belive that nothing more has happened than has with it- great story, great engine- WTF- if it can't somehow prosper, then what can- just generaly pisses me off that there arent ten of them - even though tactics looked like a rush job
speaking of which- anybody heard of add ons (fan created or otherwise) for the existing three? I just wish there was a vs computer option for the tactics multiplayer- would make it a helluva better game.....

God I loved the Fallout games. Those and the various Baldur's Gate style games must have absorbed hundreds of hours of my life.

But what are you going to do, the addiction is overpowering.

As for another go around, I sure hope so.

Aww man....Fallout....Makes me want to donn the trusty old Vault suit and be a post-apocolyptic badass all over again. GOD those games were just boss. Hard luck on the first vault dweller. As for the chosen one, well he got a better ending. If I can find those games, I'm buying them on the spot.

Then I realized that the company that made Fallout 1/2, Baldur's Gate 1/2 and Planescape Torment is being scrapped to make a shitty 3rd person console game (FO:POS).

That's when I started crying...

That's why tons of gamers are called the heads of Interplay dumbasses as we speak. Of course the rumor is Interplay wants to work only on console games and that's another reason why they shut down BIS.

Hopefully the crew from the Studio can go somewhere else that is finanically stable and create new amazing games. I'd love to see the crew from BIS go to Bioware

P.S. I believe although Black Isle and Bioware worked together on the Baldur's Gate games that Bioware is listed as the offical developer for those games. Black Isle Studios did the Icewind Dale and Fallout games solo.

Yeah, it's really sad that Black Isle is no more. It's unlikely there will ever bee a Fallout game, unless someone (Obsidian Entertainment, perhaps?) buys out the license from Interplay. And that's extremely likely, given how Interplay has raped the license (FO:POS).

Fortunately, the Baldurs Gate series was made by Bioware, who have continued to make excellent RPG's. Neverwinter Nights may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I've heard extremely positive things to Knights of the Old Republic. Looking forward to finding some time to fire that one up..

Maybe you missed this on my link:

Quote:
Carsten Strehse of Silver Style, developers of the post-nuclear game the Fall, revealed in a thread about the canning of Fallout 3 that it is not impossible for Silver Style to purchase the rights to the Fallout 3 PC game in the near future, if Interplay is selling. Here what he had to say:

Well, we are definatly interested in hiring some of the former Balck Isle staff. I try to get in contact with them.
I also disclose no big secret if I tell you that we have found a mayor partner for The Fall and that money wouldn't be the biggest problem when we would try to get the FO licence.
My biggest concern is the reaction of the FO community. We're all huge fans of FO here and have deepest respect for the achivements of the dev team. However, we are no Black Isle, we are Silver Style. And I'm afraid that the community wouldn't be pleased with a FO3 that wasn't developed by the original team. Even if I'm very sure that we could deliver a real stunning game.
The possibility of them getting the FO license is small, however. They might get the PC license leased to them, but Interplay realise that in FO they have a one-of-a-kind monopoly (at least until the Fall is released).

Also, I doubt the FO community would have any problems with FO3 if the original BIS team were contracted to work on it.

True, but if you were on the BIS and BIO boards during the development phase, you'll realise just how big an influence BIS had on those products. BIS couldnt finance the development of a game of BG's size. It would be good to see some of them move to BIO, but even better if the whole division could be contracted.

Fallout 3 Screens Surface After Cancellation.

Quote:
By Tor Thorsen, GameSpot

Images from Black Isle Studios' now-cancelled game reveal story details, online multiplayer co-op component.

Role-playing gamers hurt by Interplay's closure of Black Isle Studios had some salt rubbed in their wounds over the weekend, when several screenshots from Fallout 3 surfaced on the No Mutants Allowed fan site. The images were apparently taken from a FO3 demo BIS developers had made to show Interplay executives, and feature graphics from the game's new isometric 3D engine. They were later commented on by an anonymous FO3 developer, who provided insights into the now-cancelled title.

The first image shows one of the underground vaults made famous in Fallout and Fallout 2. According to the developer, the shot "looks like a pre-prototype one as it's missing the lighting that gets burned in after being laid out." Despite its rough appearance, the shot does show that FO3 had the same detailed environments as its predecessors. "There was lots of cool little stuff going on in this level; characters walked around and interacted w/ stuff, there were all kinds of cool computer noises, the doors opened w/ the old Fallout sound (we used lots of old sounds for our prototype to help keep the feel), there were some cool effects from a broken generator and a floating eye bot."

The second image features a glimpse of FO3's surface world. "This level was the most impressive to look at. All the buildings, streets, etc were built with our tile and prop sets," said the developer. "When you walked into the buildings or peeked through the windows, the roofs faded off super clean to reveal the interior (the interiors of buildings didn't render while you were walking around outside, thus dropping lots of polygons to draw)." The developer also described some of the visual bells and whistles that would accompany combat in FO3, as well as a fully animated vault entrance. "After we did our prototype, we showed the demo to a few people around the company who were Fallout fans and I heard no less than 3 people gasp for air as it opened. It was a great moment."

However, it was the shot of the main menu that caused the biggest stir among RPG fans. One of the options was "play with a friend," indicating that Fallout 3 would have had a online multiplayer mode and possibly even co-op play. However, the developer admitted the screen's graphics looked somewhat unfinished. "They looked good in game, but here, so close up, the self-shadowing looked really harsh on the characters." He (or she) went on to describe what the third image would have looked like. "The skybox animated, the train animated into the scene, and the characters moved around in their idle animations. Eventually we were going to do lots of cool stuff with this screen, but it was a really nice start."

GameSpot had planned on posting the Fallout 3 screenshots, but were denied permission by Interplay shortly before this story went live. "Since the title was officially never announced, we're not allowed to discuss it," said an Interplay spokesperson, who would only refer to the game by its official code name, Van Buren. "The executive order is that we don't want anything from it published." The spokesperson confirmed that the order came directly from Interplay CEO Herve Caen.

Along with the screenshots, details on Fallout 3's story have also emerged. According to some reports, the hero of the game was a prisoner being held by the Brotherhood of Steel, the high-tech knights whose enclaves dotted the landscapes of Fallout and Fallout 2. According to one report, the game was to be set in the Rocky Mountains, with Denver being mentioned as a specific locale. The same report also said Fallout 3 games could be started at one of several locales, pointing towards an even more expansive version of the first two games' non-linear gameplay.

Although Interplay hasn't even officially announced the Black Isle Studios layoffs, Fallout 3's fate seems all but sealed. However, the game's rabid fan base has already started a petition calling on Interplay to either sell the half-completed game to another studio or the restart the game's development.

However, given the amount of bad blood recently spilled, a reconstituted BIS development team is a faint possibly at best. On his farewell post on the Interplay forums, Fallout 3 producer Tom French's bitterness was plain. Describing the laid off workers as "a very dedicated group who struggled through some of the worst conditions possible in order to keep working on the game we kept making up until the final day," French speculated on what might have been. "I think what would have happened would have been a sort of second renaissance for our games. … We would have most likely proven with Van Buren that we as a division still cared a great deal about the games we made and the fans they were for."
I really enjoyed Fallout 1, it was a really good game. I was looking forward to play Fallout 2 and 3, whenever 3 was released. That'll never happen now, so I guess I should pick up Fallout 2 now.

Is Black Isle Studios NOT Closed?

Quote:
Black Isle Studios Not Closed?
For those of you who haven't been following the story, there have been some rumors circulating the industry that Black Isle Studios, creators of Icewind Dale and developer of the upcoming Fallout titles, has been closed down. After posting the initial story on the rumor, we received more details from a former employee who confirmed that the studio was closed and that Fallout 3 had been cancelled.

Which brings us to our new guest star, Interplay's investor relations department, with their official denial of the rumors. "For the record," says Interplay, "Black Isle Studios remains open with projects pending, the status of Fallout 3 is under review, and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel will ship on January 13."
As far as this "under review" status for Fallout 3, Interplay had this to say: "Fallout lives...now that is not to say we have a new Fallout PC game coming in the next few months, but management will do what it can to maximize the intellectual property it owns and the fan base it has, within the financial parameters it must operate."

Interplay was quick to characterize the closure and cancellation reports as nothing more than "false rumors" possibly generated by former Interplay employees. (The source of our second story was, indeed, a former Interplay employee.) Since Interplay is a publicly-traded company (IPLY) it does seem likely that they would have issued an official release regarding the closure. As our contact at Interplay put it: "If Interplay management had closed its most valuable development asset or chosen to abandon one of its most prized intellectual assets, the Company would have made an announcement."

-- Steve Butts, IGN PC
Hopefully Interplay is telling the truth about Black Island Studios NOT being shut down. I was really looking forward for Fallout 3.

BIS is gone. BIS is not just a name, but the Developers who worked there. And ALL of them have been fired. IPLY are just saying BIS is still alive and Fallout might still be produced to keep their share prices up and the fans subdued. so what if the name is still active? The guys are gone. And that's just sad.

Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (FO:BOS, a/k/a FO:POS) the x-box game, is different from Fallout 3, the RPG. Fallout 3 was to be a "true" RPG sequel to Fallout 1 and Fallout 2, unlike Fallout Tactics and BOS.

Fallout 3 might still live:

Obsidian Entertainment (http://www.obsidianent.com/index.html) was formed late last year from mainly BIS staff. They have a total of 21 ex-BIS developers and along with Silver Style are the front runners in a bid to acquire the rights from Interplay, assuming Interplay will sell the rights. Obsidian also formalised partnership agreements with Bioware last year, so even if they do not produce FO3, they have RPG expertise galore, and we can be looking forward to quality RPG's once more. Obsidian has not released a game to date.

Silver Style, Troika and a few other companies have also succeeded in acquiring one or two BIS developers.
