Picked up a SNES with Mario Kart
Hi all
Got a SNES with Mario Kart and Micro machines for £1. What can I say excellent, the graphics not to hot but the game play is good and after a few beers with the lads it is great to play. As we all found out last night. Can anyone recommend some titles to get. One of my friends said DOOM had really poor graphics which ruined the game. I am looking for Desert strike, but can you suggest some good games for chilling with a few beers, solo and multiplayer. Games are about 50p so shopping frenzy.

My all time favourite game for SNES was Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo. It was the one with the brick pattern on the box.
i remember paying 120 Canadian dollars for that game way back when it came out. Killer game though, i loved it. Oh, and if you don't mind me asking, where did you come across a SNES for one pound? I'd love to get my hands on one for that price. it would be awesome here in the dorms. [I see i took too long on this one, and lordjeebus beat me to the punch. but still, awesome game) |

Mega Man is also known as Rockman depending on where you're buying your games.
He's this man that runs and jumps around and has a little cannon on one hand. There's a bunch of stages which you can complete in whichever order you wish, and each time you beat a boss, you can use his weapon. I don't think my description's done it justice. It's a great game though. |

Great Jumpin' Jesus on a pogo stick! You've never heard of Mega Man!?
http://www.mmhp.net/X/ How depressing. You'll probably enjoy the Mega Man X series more than the original Mega Man series. The way you said "games for chilling with a few beers" I wouldn't suggest role playing games like the Final Fantasy series, Chrono Trigger, or Secret of Mana. They require you to get rather involved. You might try Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Donkey Kong Country, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (although involved, it's a great game), Super Metroid, and Contra 3. |

We have ‘car-boot sales’ in the UK. Pay a fee park your car on a field and sell what you don’t want any more. These events have hundreds of sellers turning up.
Not wishing to sound like I benefited from some ones loss, some people are snobby about their old things, but at these sales you get parent who’s kids have moved out (college etc) taken their PS2 and left their old consoles. Parents then flog them at these sales just to get rid of them. So watch out. I am always on the look out : for example PS1 for £20 plus loads of games. There is loads of crap, but if you search you generally find a bargain and they also haggle, so it can be a laugh. Will keep an eye out for those titles

Agreed, thats a good, easy, drunk game. I would recomend games like zelda and metroid, but those might not be what your looking for. Check them out though. Also, bomberman, fighting games, and you have to get MARIO!!!

Madden 94' football. You mentioned playing games with your friends; This game rocks! My favorite football game of all time. It's not all fast paced and lifelike like the new sports games but not too slow either. Enjoi

NHL '94 best hockey game ever.
If you like fighting games, pick up Saturday Night Slammasters. It's a wrestling game with creative wrestlers and is made by Capcom. Someone already said F-Zero but I'll say it again. Every single Super Mario World is great fun. Wing Commander is a great space fighter game. The story is decent, the teammates are fun, but god do I hate those mine-fields. Super Punch Out is another great one you can spend hours playing over and over. Pilotwings is a great game. If they made a Pilotwings for the GC I'd probably be in heaven. Earthworm Jim is one of the funniest games ever made.

Yeah, I'm gonna back up the hockey games, but make sure you get one of those adapters that let's you play with four people, y'know.
There's also one called Uniracer where you're a unicycle and you're racing other unicycles while trying to do tricks and stuff. What else... uhhhh... already got mario cart... I'm gonna reccomend Donkey Kong. It's awesome fun, but it's only one player so you're gonna have to take turns. The last tip I have is to download an emulator and try a bunch of games the legal way y'know (not that I'm advocating the legal way but it just seems to work well for your situation) (p.s. the legal way is try for a day then delete) and see which ones you think would work well. Good luck. |

From Nintendo.com:
"... whether you have an authentic game or not, or whether you have possession of a Nintendo ROM for a limited amount of time, i.e. 24 hours, it is illegal to download and play a Nintendo ROM from the Internet. " According to them, the downloading of ROMs is illegal no matter what. The only legal way to have a ROM is if you own the game and make the ROM yourself, not download it. I only bring this up because not to many people will care if it is legal or not. They will get ROMs if they want to, it would be best if they knew the truth about what they were doing. |

Actually, the law is very shady.
Could Nintendo sue you? Yes. Would they win? Maybe, maybe not. There is a lot of grey area, mostly because the law has never really been tested because Nintendo doesn't want to waste money suing people over playing games for a system they stopped making 5 years ago. They would much rather focus on someone creating roms and such for the Gamecube. So, in the end, go about it at your own risk. It is extremely, EXTREMELY, unlikely Nintendo will ever prosecute someone for NES/SNES ROMs, but it is still possible.

I can't think of a good title

Chrono Trigger: One of the best RPG's made for the SNES hands down. Still one of my favorites today. Fantastic story with great characters plus you can change the outcome of the story as well as play through again with your old leveled up characters.
Super Punch-Out: Another great game. Once you're an expert you can beat it quickly but the fun is in mastering it as well as learning your opponents. Super Metroid: Beautiful game which encourages exploration. FF3: It's Final Fantasy, what can I say? Some other good ones are: Battletoads in Battlemania, Earthworm Jim, Legend of Zelda 3, Super Bomberman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time.

Shadowrun hasn't been mentioned yet, and it's a great game.
It is more of a roleplaying game, but worth checking out... Especially if it's not too pricey.

Just gonna re-enforce the greatness of:
Chrono Trigger, the Final Fantasy Series [3 esp.], Street Fighter 2 turbo and the Megaman series [I'm still addicted to X, X2, and X3]. Also NHL 94 was kick ass, with the wrap around goals - the only way to score on Roy. Oh yeah, Earthbound was great. Toejam and Earl [1 and 2] were hilarious... Mortal Kombat [1-3]. Oh, the memories.

There are a LOT of games on the SNES that are worth owning... most of them are hard to find classics, and majorly role playing games.
*Super Mario RPG *Secret of Mana *Final Fantasy 3, though 2 is great too. 3 had a MUCH bigger world to it. *Chrono Trigger. One of the first SNES games with over 10 separate endings. *I like Shadowrun, and I never played the Genesis version... game still 0wns. *Soul Blazer *Donkey Kong Country 1. 2 and 3 were just rehashed, but 1 is still the best. *Killer Instinct - Best Fighting Game ever made. |

Earthbound!!!!! GOOD ONE! That's a really cool RPG as well.
You could probably do a search on Ebay for all these titles and find a majority of them for pretty cheap. The RPG's will definitely run you more, however. Tetris Attack is a GREAT puzzle game for both single and multiplayer. |
