Battlefield Vietnam
Battlefield 1942 is one of my favorite games ever and the only PC game besides EverQuest that I've played extensively. I especially enjoy Desert Combat, which is possibly the best mod for any PC game ever.
EA announced the sequel to BF1942 a while back. It's going to be Battlefield Vietnam, which takes place (take a guess) during Vietnam. I think this is EA's answer to Desert Combat. Check out all of the new features and look at those DAMN nice graphics. You can transport jeeps and tanks with the huge helicopters + tow cable. The F14 jets also come equipped with Napalm! This game looks amazing. I wonder when they'll release the recommended system specs! Enjoy! -Lasereth

Wow nice graphics, better than 1942. I just hope that EA or whoevers making this actually finishes it before they release it. Anyone who has played an earlier version of 1942 will know exactly what i mean. I hope i can get my system upgraded before this beast comes out. Does anyone know if the terrain will be deformable? This is something that i feel was left out of 1942.

The terrain probably won't be deformable...
I'm assuming they're using the bf1942 engine with some modifications... But to add deformable terrain to an existing engine would be near impossible. So I don't expect it. The screenshots look really good though, I just hope they can keep the performance like it is in bf1942 currently...

Deformable terrain on an engine such as this would be damn near impossible, especially for a game that had huge performance problems at the beginning, a good idea, but i think its not in their best intrest to put it in. Looks like a great game to me. The guys in the 5th screenshot need a grenade One thing i think that would be cool is to develop a cool way to do napalm, and maybe a flamethrower. These were extensively used in WWII and didnt make the cut for bf1942, maybe theyll be used in the tunnels of vietnam.

I don't know about this one... Vietnam wasn't as vehicle oriented as WWII, thus the BF1942 format doesn't fit it great in my opinion. I don't know if I want to pay $40 bucks for the same type of game play with less vehicles and better graphics. Of course, if they make those Hueys fly as cool as they look, then it might be worthwhile after all...

I hope the PAVN has some nice solid soviet hardware and interesting tactical advantages, for good playing balance. It'd be great to play as the VC as well with minimum hardware but savage guerilla advantages - scurry into a tiny tunnel network and watch the stocky American soldier get stuck in the entrance. Then you sic a cobra in his face.
After all, what would be the fun if it was just one big Huey-fest? |

Well, most of the copters go down pretty fast in regular Battlefield with the Desert Combat mod because of the RPGs and Stingers. Hopefully the VCs will have some type of anti-air weaponry (either an RPG or aircraft missile launcher) to balance the Huey ordeal.

The Stinger missile launcher in DC isn't heatseaking, but it *is* heat-sensored. In other words, if you shoot it and it goes 3 feet to the right of the UH-60 Blackhawk, then it WILL explode and do damage to it because it sensed it. It's not as good as hitting the copter directly, but it does do damage.
The RPG7's do NOT explode upon sensing armor, though. You have to actually hit the copter or tank with them. They do a LOT more damage, however. So basically, the RPG7 is used for tanks and vehicles. The Stinger does a small bit of damage to tanks and vehicles, but two of those will take out a copter if you aim correctly. The RPG7 is also slow as hell since it's a rocket propelled grenade instead of an actual missile. The Stinger missiles are fast and weak; the RPG7 is slow and strong. Stingers explode if they get near armor, but RPG7's explode only on impact. Hope this helps! -Lasereth

I think ive played this before. I remember this mod before the desert combat mod. Perhaps it was a beta? It was sweet though. The hardest thing about the new BF is the heilos. Is NOT a plane! You have to control the forward and back by the tilt of the bird, and turn with the rudder(something), just like a huey. IT IS HARDER THAN Fudge. But the was out cold. I am waiting.....
