Half-Life 2 on september 30? Has it changed?
I was just wondering if it is still coming out on the 30th? I havent seen any news on it at all, no adds. no press releases. Please fill me in, and others about its status. Thanks.

Pretty much everyone is saying it wont be out on the 30th.
Valve can be done with the game by the 30th for sure, but that doesnt mean a thing if the Publisher does not want to put it out yet. As for me, I'm a big HL fan waiting anxiously for HL2, I will wait for 9 / 30 and see what happens. |

I think it's a safe bet to say that it's not coming out on the 30th, games hardly ever come out on their projected release dates, especially ones as big as this.
I read an article at GameSpot that said Valve were releasing benchmarking tools to the media on the 30th, I doubt the games release would be on the same day. At work (EB) our computers have a date pencilled in of the 1st of December. |

Well, both Valve and Vivendi are both sticking to the date pretty hard...
But, I guess it's all really just a matter of waiting now to see if it will come out now. It hasn't even been annonced as gold yet, so we'll see what happens. I really hope it will make the date, but most chances are that it won't. Either way, with the new Age of Mythology Expansion and Halo comming out, I should be good anyway ![]() |

Its officially delayed now.
"The previously announced September 30th release date for Half-Life 2 is being pushed back. We are currently targeting a holiday release, but do not have a specific "in-store" date to share at this time. We will release that information as soon as we have confirmed a new date. "

I have a feeling it'll be on Steam before it'll be in stores, no matter what the release date. Pity to see they slipped, it would be nice for software to be delivered on time for once.

I'm kinda glad HL2 is being pushed back.
A) This was the first release date set since the game was announced. Generally games never make the first release date because of bugs and what not. This gives Valve a chance to smooth more things out before launch. B) Now I can actually buy Halo PC since I won't be commiting my online gaming plans to HL2 for awhile ![]()

Seems like every online retailer is showing a different date.
Some 11-12 / 03 Some 02 / 04 Some 10 / 03 They dont know what the hell they are doing. HL2 will NOT be released on steam earlier, beacuse it is simply too buggy, and it would be a DISASTER if they released it off steam on it's current state. They need more time to upgrade steam, and perhaps Vivendi is waiting until Nvidia gets in shape so they can release and make more money. |

I am not upgrading my computer till that game has actually hit store shelves and I have seen it with my own eyes. By the time it comes out who knows how far the prices on graphic cards have dropped.

They have been working on HL2 for five years now. They set a Sept 30th date for a reason, because whatever stage they were at when they announced it, it was very close to finished. I hope they aren't doing this to give whatever deals they are setting up more time to get ready. I don't want them sitting on this until they have a million copies to ship out like some people do (ie, Matrix). They just better load them on the trucks the second the shrinkwrap hits them and ship them off on a first come, first serve.
Granted, we have Steam now, but Steam can't even handle HL1 mods, let alone the demand for HL2. That sucker is going to crash and burn so fast on the first few days. And there probably won't be a demo, since that would push back the game even further. |

It WILL be out before the end of the year.
If it's not, Valve will not have the time between it and iD releasing Doom 3 that it needs. Doom 3 should be out around March. I met Carmack at a convention last March, and talked to him about Doom 3 and its multiplayer (which turned out to be exactally what he told me it would be ![]() |
