In case you're not aware, there was quite a large fuss over the Call of Duty demo. It was going to be released only to Fileplanet subscribers for a one week exclusive but a group of fansites took issue with this. Then earlier today or last night Activision released this response:

I'll throw in what led to Activision's response above.

Played the demo a few hours ago. Nothing to wake the place up like machine gun fire up the wazoo. Truth be told, I only realized of the game's existance when I saw on Blues News that a bunch of sites that are normally competitors made a stand and boycotted Fileplanet's exclusive. I had been waiting all day for the release of the LO:MAC demo. Of course, Ubi Soft steps in and says "it's done, we'll just sit on it for a month". Out of sight, out of mind should be my new mantra after playing this waiting game.

I got the demo last night and at first I wasn't sure what to make of it. It starts out with the exact, Exact same opening shot of MOHAA. It thought this was going to be a cheesy ripoff but I was sorely, sorely mistaken. It looks and plays phenomenally. I definitely get it when it comes out. Which is good because I had such high hopes for Day of Defeat which kind've sucked IMHO. Download this demo!

I absolutely love the fact that you have proper manuoevers like the sidestep, prone and target which were all sorely missing from MoH. The greatest aspect of this game is how you are actually with a squad during the whole mission, much like the tag-line they're using "The War was not won by one man, but by the lives of many...".
When the emplacements are shooting out of the window in the hotels in St Mere Eglise is looks phenomenonly realisitic, the muzzel flash from they heavy artiliery is fantastic. I could go on for hours praising this game, I had high hope, they were delivered and then they were smashed beyond any hope possible, this game is truly amazing. p.s. hopefully the entire 24 missions will be the same! |

My favorite part in the demo was when you got to the ruined wall segment. The nazis appeared intelligent, and would duck under cover to reload and so forth. It took some time to pick them off properly, it reminded me of a duck shoot - but it also seemed very realistic and well done.

Call of Duty Demo is sweet!
i just played through the short but really fun demo of Call of Duty. I think you can only get it on fileplanet if you're a subscriber though.
edit: thanks for moving it, totally didn't see the topic

Nice preview MrWynd Has anyone run up the field with the dead cows and been really close to an explosion? It's amazing, the sound hollows out and your vision blurs! Just like what would happen in real life.
It's a little embarassing to admit it but this game has given me shellshock (while playing that is), I suppose playing it with the sounds up realllllly high on a big screen doesn't help. It's just so damn intense... I bet WW2 vets would agree that this has captured the ferocity of the Second World War. |

The shell shock effects are pretty damn cool. (You can clear 'em a little faster by "shaking your head" - ie moving your mouse back and forth real fast.
I've played and/or seen the developers play through several of the other levels that aren't in the demo (I love my job sometimes). They're just as good, if not better. I can't WAIT for this game. Actually, I can't wait for mid-next month when I'm supposed to get a beta build!!!!

The demo is short (20 mins?) but very cool and intense...
It takes a few minutes getting used to the drkness and stuff, but very fun to play!

VERY cool demo! Does anyone know if you can play multiplayer co-op in the story mode? Specifically two player?
My buddy and I got hooked playing "story mode co-op" on Doom 2 several years ago. I get frustrated when FPS'ers come out with multiplayer mode that you can only play in a "Deathmatch" or PvP type scenario. If I want to get laughed at or sworn to in l33t d00d talk, I can always buy EQ...

This game's awesome. I hope the full game is just as exciting.

There are so many WWII fps out there...but this one looks like it'll be cool none the less. I can't believe how many people in my squad kick the bucket...I memorized one of my squad member's names and at the end of the level, I didn't see him anywhere. I've done that three times and never met any at the end.

There are already some mods released just for this demo, including a realism mod, a mod that lets you play as axis, etc. Certainly seems encouraged that a game is getting so much community support while still in the demo stage.

Anyone play the promo release? WOWOWOWOW I played it, it includes like 5 missions instead of the 1 included in the demo. You get to try out some other factions (Russia, English, American, some other one) Its soooo incredible! This one might be worth my money if they can make some decent netcode for it and play MP.
