Fanboys
Why do people advently take the side of one company when a console comes out. Who fucking cares, thats like yelling at someone for liking a certain type of ice cream. Grow up and get over it. Some consoles cater to different tastes and different peoples, thats no reason to start a fucking holy crusade or something. I own an x-box, go ahead start the bashing I can take it, but the reason I bought it was for the mech games. What other system has Steel Battalion?.. None. I have access to a Ps2 and a Game Cube. The Ps2 is good too, there are some really solid tried and true tested games for it and it has a strong support. Game Cube is alright, I don't hate it, there just isn't that many games that appeal to me for it, but the ones that do are better than alot of other games. My gaming media of choice is still pc, but that doens't mean I hate console gaming in general.
In short, a console is just a machine, not way of life. GET OVER IT |

People take sides cuz that's what people naturaly do. Your first system is something sorta sacred that you'll always be loyal to and love!
That's why I get pissed when someone disses the Dreamcast, my first system was a Genesis! I don't think thier is anything wrong with other systems now that Sega has started just developeing games not making systems. So until one company merges with Sega or starts putting out a lot of games by Sega I'm sorta in the middle. Except with X-Box, I think Gates is just being a greedy little schmuck. He couldn't monopolize computers so now he's gunna try video games. I hate Gates with a passion...

I loved the genesis too man. But there were too many SNES owners around here being nintendo fanboys. Don't hate the system just cause it has a name on it. Bill Gates has very little to do with it.
And monopolizing means controlling, and if I'm not mistaken Sony still has a pretty damn good grip on the gaming world right now. So don't hold your breath over a M$ takeover.. |

Hey hey hey, I didn't say he would monopolize, which he won't, but I said he failed to take the whole computer world so he's now going for console gaming. But since he joined SOOOO late in the race he has little chance of catching up.

I have a PS2, GC, dreamcast, sega saturn, sega genesis with the sega cd attachment, SNES, and NES plugged into my tv now(not to mention all the other systems i have owned in the past), and my roommate has the XBox plugged in too. And you know what system gets the least play? XBox. Thats right, even the NES and the sega cd get more than it. I dont like people calling other people fanboys without knowing. And, as i stated in the other thread, i am defenitely not a fanboy.

Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. I have a PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox hooked up to the tv right now. The PS2 gets almost no use, my fiance plays the cube all the time, and I play a lot of xbox. I'm not going to bitch and say that I hate the PS2 and everyone should throw theirs away, but IMO, I like the Xbox and the cube much better. To each his own.

Thats what i say, i am just angry that NeverBorn decided to call me a fan boy for liking the PS2 and GameCube and not liking the XBox. He did so in another thread. And he did so without even thinking that maybe i have played a hell of a lot of console games and pc games. He says grow up and get over it, well then why doesnt he?
I say like what you like, if its what you want then thats great.

well that doesnt make the person a fanboy, a fanboy is someone who will only get something that pertains to a certain company, i.e. sony or nintendo, not both. A fanboy likes, say, the gamecube and everything else thats not made by nintendo is crap to them. I just think that the XBox is not worth it at this time, i would like it to be, cuz hell its a powerful damn system. I would buy one if games started coming out for it that i like, but so far they haven't.

People can become fanboys after investing a lot of money and/or mental property to a given product. By mental property, I mean how much you've played a bunch of games from one console and the nostalgia that brings out in you. You want to defend something that's brought you some good times, no matter how much it sucks now.
Then you get the kids who've never tried anything but the product they like and assume it's the best simply because they like it a lot. These people are absolutely impossible to to deal with, as they've never experienced the examples you would use when talking about your favorite.

I don't really care what label is on the machine; If it sucks, it doesn't matter who made it because it's still going to suck.
When it comes to the point where you're "defending the honor" of a game console or a video game because of your emotional attachment to it then it's time for you to unplug and see the sunlight, cochise.

I am also pretty open in my views and preferences as far as the different consoles go. I like what I like, and I can defend my viewpoints with real explanations and thought processes, but that doesn't mean that my opinions are the end-all be-all facts. My definition of a fanboy is any of the idiots on these or any other forums who can only say "My system rules, your system sucks!" without any sort of evidence or opinions to back up their asinine statements. In addition, the PC gamers seem to constantly do the same thing to ALL of the console gamers. I actually wish that there were different forums for PC and console gamers.

While people have opinions, there will be fanboys.
Johnny Rotten and, if he is to be believed (), NeverBorn hit the nail on the head, if you payed money for something, even if you realise its not the best, most people (Not all, most) will defend that decision. |

i paid dearly for supporting nintendo during the 90's. I imported a n64 and 3 games a month before stateside release. Then i bought a stateside n64 on launch.. keep in mind i was in high school when these came out so i was quite broke for a long time. I truly was a nintendo fanboy, until i realised that a lot of the games i really liked were comming out for the saturn or psx. I eventually bought a import psx and stopped playing my n64. when these newer systems came out i was really sour on sony's biz practices and was happy to hear about the dolphin comming out so i waited for that.
Does this make me a fanboy? yes and no.. I like nintendo.. i really do, but even i realize they are losing in the sales department. I have thought several times about buying a ps2 or xbox, but so far there arent any killer apps out there to sway me just yet. I will try to keep an open mind though. |
