People can become fanboys after investing a lot of money and/or mental property to a given product. By mental property, I mean how much you've played a bunch of games from one console and the nostalgia that brings out in you. You want to defend something that's brought you some good times, no matter how much it sucks now.
Then you get the kids who've never tried anything but the product they like and assume it's the best simply because they like it a lot. These people are absolutely impossible to to deal with, as they've never experienced the examples you would use when talking about your favorite.
