Freelancer..?

What do you peeps think of this game?

I've played up to where you basically destroy the nomads.. is there anything after this? or is it just flying around trading and blowing things up. Cause I'm just getting my levels up waiting for the order guy to call me.. I'm starting to wonder if it'll ever happen.. seeing he said just to fly around and wait for him to call.. waiting.. waiting.. trading.. waiting some more.. nothing happening..? If that's it.. it seemed kinda short

....

Feed back thanks

Yea, I played it, and I think that's the end of the story. I got up to level 30 but still no contact.

It was short, but it still was an awesome game. Maybe they'll come out with an expansion pack or something. I heard it was originally planned to be an MMORPG, but they scratched it for some reason.

People who play it online said it's better online. I wanna try it, but I can't get the server listing to come up for some reason.

The end of the single player sucks but in multiplayer this game is awesome. I have had lan parties here several times in the last few weeks. It is a lot of fun and I highly reccomend it.

After playing Freelancer multiplayer, I can't even bring myself to playing single player anymore. I feel like I'm wasting time, because I could be using that time to make my online character better.

It's really fun to play with your friends though, even though money seems to come in a lot faster when you're playing by yourself.

I played for a while, then lost my saves with a hard drive failure, now will probably never play it again. I was expecting it to be more like Morrowind, but in space, but it was fun for a while. I just don't have the time anymore to really play it the way they meant it to be played.

I tried to play the demo (that deal for 5 days free) but the customer service sucked so I never tried again. I read that your not really able to fight one another. Is that the case? Is there any online game that you can?

I just wrote AE reuesting them to bring back Auto Duel. That would be excellent as an online game. Imagine a GTA3 type game play when out of your vehicle interacting with the rest of the world, then once inside whatever arena your in, in whatever city your in a twisted metal gameplay feel.

Freelancer...

Its a game that came out not too long ago. The SP campaign is incredible, but replayability is small for me. Online play is all i do anymore. I wanna play on a server that I set up, does anyone know how i can get my SP character into MP? For ppl that play, its the Titan w/ all the secret nomad weps... Thx in advance.

Anyway, take a look here . It' a rather big freelancer forum, with lot's of info on how to setup the server etc...

Yeah, i think you can only transfer players from server to server in mp mode only, if you are the server administrator... Thanks a lot for the link!

Man good thing it was "Free"lancer cause I played it and totally discovered everything in just a few days. After that, it aint so fun. If it was a LOT larger, I would probably still play.

I enjoyed it , quite the good game. Yeah the voices sucked, but it was only 2 disks not 3 like wc3. Never really got into multi though

I found the fact that I have to uninstall all my video codecs to get the audio to work exremely annoying. However the game is kinda fun, other then the fact that I beat the thing in 12 hours. I had a LAN this past weekend and we had a 4 player server going, that was kinda fun, and I imagen that if I was to play online it would be good too. I suggest you guys try a few of the mods, its kinda interesting and some of the time its fun to get a Darkstar fighter (i think thats the name) and 4 of his LVL 10 weps, and demolish everything from the top to the bottem of the whole system, just for you who dont know what the Darkstar is, its a ship from an upcomming mod that costs $2mill, has a sick amount of armor ( Ithink 200k) and the weps for it do around 30k dmg and have a 120k range. LOL

I played it when it first came out. MP was REALLY addicting for the first couple of days, until you leveled up, got the best ship, and everything was constantly attacking you, which got kind of annoying after a while. Then we figured out all the mp player info was stored clientside, and all you had to do was edit a file to cheat, which kind of sucked all the fun out of the game. That was a long time ago, and i hope they fixed that problem.

I thought MP would be fun until i realized that there is no plot to the MP. basically you and your friends make trade runs or bounty hunts just to try to get better ships and equipment. But there still is no end to the nothingness. So i stopped playing a few days after i finished the multiplayer.

The only thing i did that was fun in MP was after i had the Titan w/ all the best weps that i could find, just go on a destructive rampage and blow up everything you come across. Its fun for about a minute

I was quite dissapointed with freelancer. I mean, after the SP campaign is done, there is a basicly nothing left in the single player mode other then to get the best ship possible. Multiplayer is alright, but it still gets dull quick. I just wish the game had more depth...

I have to give this game two thumbs down as an arcady space-sim. It really suffers from being too simplified. I got about halfway through the game, so if any of this is wrong I apologize:

* All ships have the same top speed
* The controls are hideous - they decided to use a mouse to increase sales, and then to make up for poor mouse control the targetting is a joke. Physics is a joke, and as ships get "harder" they basically start ignoring physics more and more to fly all around your screen. It really doesn't capture the feel of out dogfighting someone and riding their ass into oblivion.
* The plot is forced on you in SP, so you can't build up your strengths at your own pace.
* The repair pellet scheme is a copout for not being able to balance the game
* The voice acting and splicing is terrible, and slows the game down painfully. Let me read the crap in 1/10 the time and without listening to bob who sounds just like Jim, Al, Steve, Rick, etc....
* The codec problem is annoying as hell, and I assume a gift from Microsft.

All-in-all it suffers from the suits trying to make a genre "more accessible". Not everyone has a joystick, so desiging the game for one would hurt sales. People want lots of speech. Anyone needs to be able to pick up combat very quickly. etc...

I imagine for most people it's a fun enough game, but try running through Tie Fighter, Freespace, IW2, or the Wing Commander games and playing this right afterwards

If the trade prices weren't static it would have made the game so much more interesting.
I was really sad when I found out that you can google up what the monty-haul run was and just do that 5 times.

Also, if the game had another fun/addictive aspect to it I would have been hooked for sure. The "build the bestestest ship" motivation has little replay.

I thought it would be fun if you could buy you're own base on one of the planets and buy a shipyard, defences, etc. It'd be fun to try and fly to another planet and take over your friends base.

I find it amazing that nobody has mentioned the MOD's that have been developed for this GREAT game.
Check out:
http://www.lancersreactor.com/t/
I've been playing this game steady ever since it came out... if I get board with it... I just download another MOD and BAM! you've got something new to do.
Although I must say that since Morrowind (GOTYE) with Bloodmoon and Tribunal came into my gaming life I have not played Freelancer... and thats been several months now.
Microsoft REALLY does need to come out with another Freelancer... maybe something with the Doom3 graphics engine... that would be cool.

I just got addicted to this game, love it, don't mind the voice acting at all... still need to finish the story in SP though. It does seem a bit dissappointing that after the storys over all you can do is screw around in space.

We have our own "closed" network that we have Freelancer MOD gaming with.
We will have a few freinds come over with their boxes and then fire up the server.
That's when fun starts. Based on what MOD we're doing... it can be a lot of fun.
It's really what you make of it.

I've talked to so many people who got to the end of the game and were like "is this the end?" That game needed some serious closure. Same max top speed of all the ships and the static economy prices ruined the game for me.

Very true about the end game... but like I said, the SP is only part of the game. The MP world is the flip side to that coin. The MOD's that I mentioned before can be run either in SP or MP and change the ENTIRE game. I know of one in paticular that addresses the the issue of each ship having different speeds based the class of ship, who made it and what engine you use... yes, in some of the better MOD's you can actually change engines AND the thruster or thrusters based on the design of the ship... some have more then one thruster.
They've added things like spinning planets and new weapons... not to mention some have even added new trade goods.
There is one MOD that converts Freelancer into Freeworlds... it is a total conversion into Star Wars... definetly worth checking out.
