Vandal Hearts

Anyone else ever play this old one on the PS One? Just like playing chess but with lots and lots of blood. This game rocked!

Vandal Hearts, ahhh, the cheap version of Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics...

Okay, thats a little bit harsh. The only problems
that I had with Vandal Hearts was the class
system. I mean, why can't I revert to an old
class? Did I forget how to be a ninja-priest?
It was a little bit annoying, especially if you
let a character die, because (I think) you were
not able to recruit any additional units. So
once a character dies, you are unable to
have a full squad again.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It was a really really long time ago when i played this game, but i really liked it. Though i thought it was way too hard to go to the different parts of the field with one of your characters to find the hidden stuff to get the vandal heart. Otherwise, i thought it was a cool game. The levels were cool, gameplay was cool too. The best part was that this game was so linear that there was no leveling up required.

I guess that could have been its worst part as well, but it was still a cool game. Also i think once there was a Vandal hearts 2, but ever really picked it up.

I rented it a long time ago, and I thought it was pretty cool... but I wasn't into the whole "tactics" thing back then... Same way with FFT. After growing to love FFT, I would probably like Vandal Hearts a lot more.

-thwack spleen-

VH r o c k e d. I beat it and considering when it came out it was fairly refreshing to americans (remember fft and to came out here long after VH).

i beat it.... then a few months later i beat it again it had a secret ending or some such. i loved the game

oh and when your characters die they are available in the next battle unless i've lost my mind.

VH2 was a massive let down. it started off interesting and the action was much more realistic but obtaining skills was just too fucking difficult. you had to attach a askill to e v e r y weapon. i'm not even going to try and explain. it sucked.

indeed that was harsh. Vandal Hearts was THE FIRST of its kind. Tactics Ogre was basically the predicessor to FFT but Vandal hearts did a lot of stuff those game were just starting to get cooking. i enjoyed it ALOT the only shame was that like you said you couldn't recruit more units. but that kept you playing maps over and over again for that perfect win LOL

I agree except, as i said above, TO was after VH in America. both games came here well after their debut in Japan (actually, I'm unsure if VH came here after Japan or not...).

TO was out a few years before VH on the SNES............ soooooooo

in american gamer terms, VH was first.

in Japan and the creators of the games terms, VH was made well after TO.

indeed tactics ogre came out first in japan. i'm positive that vandal hearts came out later since it was a ps1 game. the original ogre battle and tactics ogre were super famicom games. or in the US the would have been super nintendo games. alot of what i was trying to point out was a fully rotatable 3d environment. that was one of the first games to show off that in a strategic fashion

Yeah, I loved that game. I was particularly surprised by the huge gush of blood that spews out of dying characters. That made me laugh all the way to the end of the game. Started playing part 2 but never finished. Something there didn't click. Though I do plan to get back to it one day.

VH2 is one of that ultra examples of "what the fuck were they thinking" deals.

once again, great story... graphics were UGLY but I care about plot and gameplay.. but the gameplay was HORRENDOUS.

example..... we like finding treasures chest, right? if you find one in battle you have to have a weapon that has that ability.... sooooooooo you either keep the shit dagger to open it or you constantly shift the ability to every new dagger there is. this doesn't sound too bad, but it gets much worse.

let me put it like this. after like the fifth battle I was spending up to 40-50 minutes trying to figure out what equipment was needed....... both times i tried to get through these games just. ugh.

there's complicated games and there are mind crippling, drool inducing, iq lowering complicated games.... this is one of them.

i hope for a vh3 one day

Liked it.

Managed to get a new copy at a Wal-Mart about a week ago for $15, and played it for a while.

It was totally worth $15. You can take that any way you want.
