Ok, someone needs to let me know when everyone's getting together to play. I'm tired of playing with random scrubs. I've not gotten past part 3 or part 5 of No Mercy (expert), and I refuse to move on until I do.

We played chapter 3, 4, and 5 of No Mercy on Advanced last night. We didn't beat part 5 (first time we even played 4 and 5). This game is freaking awesome and we haven't even moved on to the other 3 movies yet. We usually play on Expert but it's very difficult to beat with 2-3 people.

Lasereth, I had a similar first experience with No Mercy, on advanced. I left after we failed on the final battle, as it was getting late.

Last night I tried Death Toll. It was on expert but no one realized. We were getting slaughtered within 100 yards of the beginning. We switched it to normal but could barely get to the third map.

What this tells me is you have to change your strategies with each map. The dynamics are so different that you can't rely on a small set of tactics.

This basically means this game is freaking awesome.

I'll think more about how we can get us all to play regularly. For now, I'd simply recommend always having your Steam logged-in when you're at your computer so we know you're online and at least there to respond to an invitation to play.

Scheduling a date also works.

(Thanks to aberkok for the find.)

*EDIT*

This might be short notice, but aberkok and I will be playing L4D today at around 2:00 or 2:30 EST.

Damn it took me almost a week to finish No Mercy's finale. We survived with 3 people left. The 4th only died because of friendly fire at point blank range. The 2 tanks were dominated in less than 5 seconds (expert).

4 automatic shotguns at point blank range. We were actually pretty lucky this time because he went stupid twice and didn't make it under the ramp where we were holding out. We shot him from below the ramp.

This game is brutal on Expert. I still haven't finished No Mercy because the last part is hell. So far I've finished No Mercy and Death Toll on Advanced. There's a nice trick to beating Death Toll's last part, and I wonder if it would work the same on Expert.

Woot, beat Dead Air last night on Advanced finally. We only had 3 people too. The AI doesn't really count because it really does some stupid shit sometimes, omg. All that's left is Blood Harvest and then on to Expert.

This game is too fun.

Congrats I know I tried for at least two hours to beat the finale on Expert with a few buddies. We finally had to bum it down to Advanced to finally beat it.

Beat Blood Harvest on Advanced but only 1 person made it out alive. I didn't get the achievement so I'm going to have to do it again. I really hope Valve keeps this game updated on both 360 and PC. I don't care if I have to pay for extra scenarios for the 360 as long as the price is fair.

Eso, supposedly there will be plenty of Valve created maps to come for both DLC and PC patches. The only difference between the two platforms, other than the obvious controller/keyboard/mouse thing, is that the PC allows for user made maps as well.

are those maps going to be free for the PC or charged like the 360?

It was my understanding that they're free, as it's community-based mapping. You can download the SDK yourself and start building.

Lately I've been pretty busy. I usually only have barely 30 minutes to play. On top of that, my wireless router is a piece of shit sometimes, so I've been lagging really badly. I'm not really sure what the deal is with that yet, but after my finals, I'll probably be playing a lot.

You can type 'openserverbrowser' in the console to bring up the typical hl2 server list. Maybe you can find one with a low ping if that's the cause. I know if I do the quick match thing my ping is usually terrible.

I wonder if they will be adding more types of zombies and weapons. From watching videos it seems a bit limited on enemies. There are currently only 6 zombies: Boomer, Smoker, Hunter, Tank, Witch, and Zombie. They really need about 14 more types to make things really interesting.

One of my favorite things about this game is that, regardless of the number of types of zombies, everytime I play is a different experience. I think the idea of the zombie director was fantastic.

Did I mention Expert is fucking brutal? Was playing No Mercy last night and my group couldn't get past the sewers. We'd all be low on health or near dead and cue the Tank music. I eventually just had to call it a night because it was getting late. Regardless of how many times we died I still had a blast and can't wait to try it again.

I still think that the sewers is the hardest part. Getting to the tank is hard enough, but he usually finishes us off too. Even if you do get passed him you still have a bit to go to the safe room with virtually no health.

I've never seen an expert v.s. game get higher than a 50 score as survivors.

Yeah, expert sewers is the hardest thing by far. I think I've only done it like twice. I can't imagine it on vs. It's just so long. By the time you actually get into the sewers, you're mostly dead. Then you have to deal with going through it with the constant waves of zombies and the inevitable witch. And, even though it's a really short distance from the exit to the hospital, it's still nearly impossible to get to the fucking hospital.

It's amazing how I never get tired playing No Mercy over and over again on versus. The biggest thing this game is lacking for longevity is a traditional server browser window that is easy to get to. Too many times I have to return to the lobby because people left the survivors after getting owned, and the survivor AI is absolutely a death sentence in versus mode. Plus you can't choose things like server location. You get stuck with the dilema of having a 200 ping or leaving the current game.

Left 4 Dead DLC Reveal Coming Soon, SDK Someday

Posted 12/29/08 at 11:20:49 PM | by Nathan Grayson

What’s better than seeing the world? Seeing the world during its post-life crisis – at least, according to Valve. And so, during a recent pow-wow with Kotaku, Valve writer Chet Faliszek confirmed that a smattering of new L4D scenarios are currently making sure their crumbling shacks and snaking paths are undead-accessible, as is the long-awaited L4D SDK.

However, as of now, details are sadly few in number. Apparently, Valve wants to “deliver more content you can play at this point,” meaning that the SDK probably won’t arrive with the initial batch of DLC.

On the bright side, the zombpocalypse preparation tool’s first tune-up will add versus mode support to the Dead Air and Death Toll campaigns, allowing you to feast upon your friends’ flesh at all of the game’s fine locales.

The Kotaku-Valve chat was recorded on December 15, so Faliszek’s claim that "We should be announcing that before Christmas, what the DLC is,” was obviously derailed.

"The holidays aren't actually so much delaying it as the press guys--[marketing VP] Doug [Lombardi]'s been taking some time. We'll have an announcement shortly, I don't know exactly when,” he continued. We’re guessing that bit’s still valid.

As is Valve’s wont, the DLC probably won’t cost any money – though arms and legs haven’t been ruled out just yet.

We’ll make sure to let you know when Lombardi and co. finally raise the curtain on Left 4.1 Dead. Pencil us in for “soonish.”

Left 4 Dead: Major Left 4 Dead Update Coming Very Soon to PC, Console

Valve will be announcing a major update to the software development kit for PC users and downloadable content details for the Xbox 360 "very soon", a company spokesman told Kotaku today.

The new details, first hinted at in our December in-game interview with Valve's Chet Faliszek, could be announced as early as next week.

Valve declined to offer up anymore details about what the SDK update and DLC might include, but speaking with Faliszek in late December he hinted that new content might include opening op all multiplayer maps to versus mode on the console and "other things."

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that Valve will be opening up machinima tools in the SDK.
I definitely can't wait.

I bought the game when Steam had their boxing day sale.
Started playing after new years, and damn it all am I addicted.
I quickly beat the campaigns on normal, and am now trying to get all of the achievements.
I'm having such a hard time killing the witch with one headshot. Yes I use the shotgun, yes I get really close to her, but I only manage to startle her, it sucks.
If anyone wants to work on the achievements with me, send me a message, I'm "Teh Settie" and should be apart of the TFP group now. I usually work on the achievements in easy or normal.
After I get them, I'll try advanced
