Lasereth, I had a similar first experience with No Mercy, on advanced. I left after we failed on the final battle, as it was getting late.
Last night I tried Death Toll. It was on expert but no one realized. We were getting slaughtered within 100 yards of the beginning. We switched it to normal but could barely get to the third map.
What this tells me is you have to change your strategies with each map. The dynamics are so different that you can't rely on a small set of tactics.
This basically means this game is freaking awesome.
I'll think more about how we can get us all to play regularly. For now, I'd simply recommend always having your Steam logged-in when you're at your computer so we know you're online and at least there to respond to an invitation to play.
Scheduling a date also works.
