Droolworthy, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it won't be nearly as good as it could be. Chances are that most aspects of gameplay will lack depth, and it won't have the appeal to keep players for more than a few weeks, though I hope to be proven wrong.

I would find games like this and Pirates of the Burning Sea more interesting if you were allowed to get a group of friends together and crew 1 ship, exploring an open environment with tons of PVE content. Unfortunatley, my guess is that everyone will get there own ship (like in Pirates), and it will concentrate on PVP battles between factions (Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Borg...) for regions of space and the stations in them. I would be drawn to a Star Trek game that didn't hold your hand too much, allowing you to search for new planets, beam down, and explore them, with all the adventure that comes with. I'm not saying that would be an easy game to make, but man would it be fun. Here's to hope'n.

It would be cool if this is done right. Personally I couldnt get into Star Wars, or EVE. Ive been looking for any kind of space flight game that lets you use a high calibur joystick. Kind of a cross between Crimson Skies and AquaNox. I hate using a mouse for flight control. Any online game involving space has potential because. Has anyone seen the Star Gate game?

You might be interested in Jumpgate Evolution, it's supposed to be a much more action-based space combat MMO. I signed up for beta, but I haven't been accepted. I'm really eager to see if it's any good or not.

I really hope it's good but I'm skeptical. I have NEVER played a good Star Trek game.
Star Trek has never been about space fighting. The inner workings of the ship and the crew relationship is the big draw. I'd definitely rather see a normal crew member doing just 1 or 2 of the 100s of different positions on a ship or other people going solo ship or small crew ships. I've always thought a ST game should be more strategy and diplomatic than action.
