Multiplayer games
My boyfriend and I love to play video games together. My favorite are RPG games. We've played Baldur's Gate I and II, D&D Heroes, Gauntlet, LODR... etc. I also love games like Mortal Kombat and any Star Wars game. Any suggestions? We're running out of games to play together.

well, you mentioned mortal kombat which is a (mostly) 2d fighter.
Other good 2d fighters are the Street Fighter series and the Guilty Gear series. There are some great puzzle games you could play together. The DS is multiplayer madness; you could each pick one up.

Get a SNES emulator. That way you can play games such as:
Secret of Mana Seiken Densetsu 3 An ass load of 2D side-scrolling beat 'em up games (Like TMNT4, Final Fight 2/3, Street Fighter etc.) ...Or you could just buy a Wii, 'cuz it totally pwns (Plus Mario Party 8 is just so much damn fun. And it can also play GC games, meaning you could always play SSB:M on it). ...And, off-topic, but if I ever found a chick who was into video games I'd totally marry her >.>

Never ever feel bad about being hooked on video games and being female - cause if you do that means there's something wrong with it and then I would have to feel bad.
I'm a total gaming addict, WoW, Diablo, Dungeon Siege, AoE, Warcraft, Starcraft, KKnD, Quake, Doom, Starwars etc etc and any of the SNES games (emulators ftw!) I even DM once a week lol though my latest craze has to be guitar hero ... I dunno why it's just so dang addictive!

City of Heroes is a really good casual game. It lacks the depth of WoW, but that's not particularly a bad thing, because it reduces the chances of you becoming completely obsessed and destroying your life over it.
This may sound random but I would also recommend Freelancer as a good LAN game to play with one or more other people. It's not really an RPG, but there are elements that are somewhat rpg-ish. You start out really weak with a little ship, and as you do missions and make money, you can upgrade to better ships and ship equipment. Experience points are basically replaced with money. It's a fun LAN game because you can team up with your buddies and do missions together, and there's no lag because it's on a LAN. It's kind of fun over the internet too, but the lag usually messes with me and gets me really frustrated. It's a really low requirement game, a few years old, but it's still one of the best space flight action/trading games out there, and one of few recent ones that actually support multiplayer. |

Can't believe no-one has mentioned Animal Crossing! I mean, sure, i've inferred that you're playing these games on a PC, but it's probably worth buying a cheap gamecube for
Failing that, my ex was curiously keen on Fable. Maybe give that a shot if you like the ol' axe swinging combined with being able to buy a house and grow horns.

Does Animal Crossing have multiplayer? I only have it for the DS so you could have up to 4 characters but only 1 town and 1 player at a time, maybe the GC version is different.
Some good RPG's you could check out are Neverwinter Nights 2 and Titan Quest. They both have coop multiplayer although Titan Quest is a Diablo clone clickfest whereas NWN2 has more of a story and indepth combat system, based on D&D. If you want to try out some strategy games, Company of Heroes is extremely good and the expansion is in open beta right now, all you need is a fileplanet account. World in Conflict also looks good but doesn't come out for another week or so.

I still play NWN to this day. There are tons of modules free to download and many of them support multiplay. You can even get into a group for scheduled, weekly games as if you were playing table top DnD. Check out www.neverwinterconnections.com for more info.

Things I've played with my girlfriend (who also surprised me by her love of video games): Guitar Hero, Mortal Kombat games, Guilty Gear X, Katamri Damacy, SSX3. We've also taken turns playing Fatal Frame, if you don't mind playing like that.

Hhhmmm, coop games. I have to suggest Gears of War, as it has a pretty great implementation of online coop (which for me is spectacular as I am located in WA and my brother lives in Philly). And though there is a little bit of a learning curve, it's definitely not an impossible game to grab (my wife picked it up in about 15 minutes). But this also requires a Xbox360........
The suggestions of Lego Star Wars are spot on, as it is a great series to play with a "loved" one. Also it kind of sounds like you are a PC gamer, so I might as well throw out the Serious Sam games. Single player is alright, but multiplayer coop is where those games excel.....the brother and I lost MANY nights (weeks) to the first one. ~Drego

Animal Crossing DOES have multiplayer, but it's different to normal.
Guild wars is my favourate MMORPG. A gamecube with Super Smash Bro - Melee Mario Kart. Love gaming, Love life. Look up the game, "Rez".... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rez Read it carefully. With imagination... It *could* be a two player game... *wink wink nudge nudge* |
