Controlling the Nintendo Wii
Hey this is a question for all you gamers lucky enough to purchase a Wii. I am a little skeptical about purchasing it solely due to the control system (wiimote and nunchuck). If you could answer these questions it would help a lot! If not xbox 360 here I come!
1)Do your arms get tired from swinging the wiimote around or is it not a limiting factor on the duration of gameplay? (I dont want to quit playing games just bc my arms are sore) 2)How does the wiimote work when you play sports games like madden? 3)Is it difficult to control and fight when playing with two hands like in Zelda or is it pretty natural? 4)Will NCAA football ever come out for Wii!?! (I didnt see it on the games list! wtf) |

You should play with one at a buddy's house or something to really get an answer to this. The fact is, until I touched one, I had no idea how natural it felt.

Yeah, I must admit I am scared of that Wii controller, cool as it may be...

I got used to it in Zelda in about 3 hours. Now I am totally comfortable. When I pick up the remote and nunchuk thing, it feels completely and totally natural. Your hands/arms do get more tired than with a regular controller, but it's not enough to hinder gameplay.
The controls seem pretty natural in Zelda so far. I wouldn't be worrying about the remote as much as trying to find the system itself. Good luck!

The motion sensing controls can respond to a twitch or a wild swing of the arms. It's up to you how tired you want to get playing with the wiimote.
I didn't even feel like I had to adjust to the combination of nunchuck-remote, it was a very smooth transition. Also, the split design of the wiimote is amazingly condusive to blowjobs while playing compared to a single controller.

Whether or not the controller feels natural is directly related to whether the game you're playing sucks or not. In Wii Sports and Zelda, sure, the controls are natural and fun. In games like Red Steel, they're unnatural and they suck. Read on up on each game you're interested in to see if they're worth playing. Just because the Wii has an innovative remote doesn't mean it works in every game.

I'm also interested in getting one of these, but I'm skeptical as well.. I work graveyard and have kids, so the last thing I need is at 0600 hrs to be jumping around the living room waving my arms all over the place.

in madden:
flick the wrist down to throw. how hard you snap the wrist determines if its a bullet pass or lob. push both controllers forward to tackle. move the wii-mote left and right to stiff arm. move the nunchuk left and right to juke. to kick, point the wii-mote down and flick your wrist up quickly. how fast determines power and if you twist your wrist that affects the slice of the ball. the controls in madden are not too difficult to learn. i would rent it before buying though. in madden 07 for the wii, you no longer get a whole view of the field. you cannot see the far left or the right of the screen. its weird and takes some getting used to. definately rent it before buying. |

One thing to be careful with is how HARD you motion with the Wiimote as well. I have heard people talking about them being thrown so hard that the strap broke and the wiimote flew threw a tv screen, or hit a 3 month old infant in the head. That's definitly waaay to hard, cause I can over power a drive in Wii Golf with a flick of my wrist. The Wii uses motion and acceleration to operate, not motion and speed. So far I've just got the sports disc to play, but its been awesome and very natural to use.

2. Haven't played sports games but I hear Madden is very intuitive. 3. The swinging controller element of Zelda makes it really fun, also, it's cool to aim the bow with the wii remote. In addition, since the controller is two separate modules, it's easy to, say, recline, put your left hand above your head, and play like that. 4. I don't know who makes NCAA football. However I know many companies are devoted to developing Wii games. |

1: You are trying to break it 2: You intentionally broke it and want to sue Nintendo 3: You are an idiot. Not your everyday mouth-breathing, slack-jawed moron. If you accidentally break it because you swung it too hard and let go of it (I don't know how this could happen,) you should not leave your house unaccompanied and should wear a crash helmet for any activity more strenuous than sleeping. If you break a Wii strap unintentionally, you should automatically qualify for the Special Olympics. If you're worried that your drunken idiot friends will break it, you can order the updated strap. I'm going to order one for each of my remotes, then experiment with the old straps and a force gauge in my school's physics lab to see just how much they can hold. I'm guessing upward of 30 pounds. http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/strapreplace.jsp |

1. I have done my long game sessions, 3+ hours and my arms do not get tired.
2. I have not picked up Madden on the Wii, but from what my buddies tell me, its pretty fucking sweet. As for Wii Sports- the free game that comes with the console, all I have to say, WOW, I was very impressed on how the controls work. 3. I don't have any difficulties with the control scheme for ANY of the games I have played. I picked up quite a few launch titles and very happy with all the purchases. There is nothing like controlling a racing truck and tilting the Wii remote to the left and right to make the truck go that direction. 4. I have not heard that NCAA football is coming to the Wii. I am assume that it will come out for it next years. Rankings for the game I purchased. Legend of Zelda - Twilight Princess. -- 10/10. AMAZING GAME!!! So much to do, so little time to play. With over 70 hours plus to finish the game with the multiple side quests. The fishing and snowboarding alone is worth the price of admission. Dragonball Z -Budokai 2. -- 9/10 Awesome fighter, 160 characters to play, great story mode and other options. Plus, its a very cool thing to do the motions with the controllers as the characters do it in the Anime series. Rayman Raving Rabbids -- 9/10 FUNNY, easy to play game. Basically its 70 mini games throughout the story mode. Multiplayer is kick ass too. Excite Truck -- 8/10. Not too many gameplay options, but using the Wii remote as your steering wheel is very easy to pick up and play. Lots of fun. Plus, if you have MP3's on your SD card, you can use that as background music. Trauma Center 2 -- 8/10. If you have played the DS version, its a great game. Although you need a steady hand for some of the surgeries. It is easy to pick up and play. Elebits -- 8/10. I just picked this tile up and I must its a blast. Zapping those little energy creatures are a lot of fun. Easy to play and pinpoint accuracy with the remote. V.
