How long did your laptop last? I think mine has reached its minuscule limit (only ~38 GB of space, piddling) and it is propbably over three years old at this point.

We're brothers in coincidence yet again, as we are both in the market for upgrading the laptop (though I hope mine does not crash in the foreseeable future).

I am at a loss now, for you are testing my nature of happenstance ring.

(I don't get it now, but I wonder if on Thursday something happens that will blow me back)

BadNick 07-27-2009 05:44 PM

My laptop is a Gateway TA1 which I estimate is close to 5 years old. Funny thing is I actually have two now and neither works. I got both of these from work but use them mostly for personal stuff. When the first one wouldn't boot up at all, I got the second one and used that a couple more years. Now that one is "intermittent" since if I take a large C-clamp and one of my butter knives, and I clamp the knife so that it presses exactly in the right spot next to the touch-pad, it will still work; but otherwise it seems trashed.

I think I've weasled our I.T. guy into getting me a nice new powerful laptop with a nice big screen...I really don't care about weight since I almost never carry it around very far.

Do you have any advice as to a good, fast, large screen (~17"?) laptop?

ring 07-27-2009 05:45 PM

Perhaps it's a sunspot thang.

Jetée 07-27-2009 05:50 PM

I don't have any good knowledge about computer specs, price comparison, or even where to start in diagnosing maybe a common problem.

I'm in this information age, but damned if I'm trying at all to learn about it (this phrasing is a tad confusing, but it's meant to reflect that I should know more about IT than I do now, which is diddly-squat).

I have delicious bookmark of when a friend was describing his laptop, and i thought he got a good deal; I may just post that, 'cause I wouldn't know where to start.

dearing, funny you should say that. My friends joke that I blame everything on sunspots. Also, you may be aware that we are in a sunspot minimum lately, as far as the report I read last week there haven't been any significant sunspots for the last few months. NASA/Marshall Solar Physics

MOAB, keep pedaling, buddy. I'm sure eventually you'll find your way back here

Jetée 07-27-2009 06:54 PM

Well, now that you're back: HP Pavilion DV6000 Notebook Review | PCMech

I saved this bookmark it seems in Dec of '07, so I'm sure you can do everything to improve upon these specs, but to me, and my only knowledge of laptops being in comparison to the one I'm typing upon now, it's an improvement x10.

ring 07-27-2009 07:25 PM

I'll post at the temporary posterior of this thread for posterity's sake.

BadNick 07-27-2009 07:31 PM

thanks for the HP reference, Jet. I was already planning to include HP laptops in my search since I've had luck with their desktops...as I'm on one now...so I suppose if I get one of the best laptops that HP offers I should be good to go.

here I am, now at the end, an ass as usual. Not that there's anything wrong with an ass.

Jetée 07-27-2009 07:40 PM

Donkey.

I had a thought about them a week ago, something very interesting, if I may say so, but unfortunately, I cannot recall how I thought to implement them here.

How would you implement a donkey at the TFP?

ahoy

Jetée 07-28-2009 06:20 AM

I'm not in a box! You will laugh out loud at least six times when you listen to this.

I think I'll try once a week to turn you fellows to an interesting podcast I found beyond intriguing and/or hilarious. This is now a week after the format flip I told you guys about, but other than sports headlines at the top of every other hour, the same enjoyably-intriguing off-topic reference show that ties back to sports somehow is still going strong.

Yesterday's was "a classic". To quote a piano-playing bond, "Please to enjoy".
(And today was the first time i listened to the show live)

7/27 Seg. 4- The Sports Junkies

Donks, Canary fighting, wild exotic animals

word of advice if you are among the two persons who click this link: don't try to stream it in your browser... the station is having some kind of problems with the new streaming source, shipping it to New York and back, so just download the clip and play it in your resident media player.

Again, enjoy. :surprised: (you two).

Jetée 07-28-2009 06:33 AM

I have some knit bunnyfish if you care to see

Tophat665 07-28-2009 06:34 AM

Oh, by all means, on that tail hangs a yarn.

it turns out that on mixed days this week all around the world, it's International Children's Film Festival celebration time or other.

Today in Tucson, you can attend a big-screen Looney Tunes festival for free, all day.

I also have this link, with many interesting cartoons/anime I'd like to watch.

here it is: GKIDS - Tour

I'm not sure why they like to orally-insert the bunnyfish; aesthetic inconsistency to me.

ring 07-28-2009 06:50 AM

That reminds me to thank you for the Pink Panther vids
in your thread.

I actually sat and colored in my Pink Panther coloring book,
two evenings ago. It was very relaxing.

I have yet to fill in the background:

That bunny fish is actually devouring those unsightly creatures.
A great public-service, I must thank him.

I'll post the risque drawing in the [hide], but people must really love the taste of 'em.

The photog must be telling them the delicious nature of these whimsical creatures.
